Swollen lymph nodes for 7-8 years

Posted , 101 users are following.

Hello,

I'm a 22 year old male and as the title says I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and armpits for almost 8 years. It started when I was around 15 years old with a one or two nodes getting swollen in my neck. The GP said it was nothing so I haven't paid any more attention to them. Over the following few weeks I noticed a few more in my neck and a few in my armpits. They are around 0.5cm - 2.5cm in size, hard, painless and movable and haven't changed in these 7-8 years. I have no other symptoms.

Any help would be appreciated.

Glad I found this forum I'm having problems with lymph nodes too in Nov 2014 I found one in my groin and the doctors didn't seem bothered by it yet it's still there now and slightly larger and I've now found one in my neck that's been up for atleast 8 weeks not sure how long has been there before then and I'm really worried. My little girl who is 5 also has inflamed ones in her neck about three in a group on the left side which she had ultrascanned two years ago and was told they are OK. Maybe it's just normal but.my God doesn't it half give me bad anxiety x

hi jess, late reply I got some advices:

Stop seeing those doctors, sue them for making u worry and wasting ur time too, get some profits from it lol

go to see a holistic doctor, tell them u have these lumps for a long time and u wanna get rid of it, they should be able to do it (these lumps are harmless btw, but stll very annoying, it freaks u out right? and make us differ from others too)

don't forget to thank me if it helps :D

      good luck

Hello all! So thankful to come across this thread and just wanted to share my experience! About a year ago, during the middle of one of my server health anxiety bouts, I discovered a small lump in my neck on the right side right next to my windpipe, dead center between my chin and chest. I of course convinced myself I had lymphoma. I still think I do some days, I'm sure anyone with Heath anxiety knows exactly what I mean! I'm now 6 months pregnant, had all my blood work done and it's all came back perfect. Had a doctor and a nurse friend assure me it was nothing to worry about. Wanted to share something I hadn't read much on here about. I began seeing a hollistic doctor about a year ago as well. I didn't mention the lump to him until about q few weeks ago (when my anxiety over it flared up again) and he said that my lymphatic system is backed up, and he put me on 6 pills of Spanish Black Raddish to hopefully flush it out, he said he would check back in a month (it's been almost two weeks so I haven't gone back yet) to see what the progress is. Basically I used to think hollistic doctors were crazy, but now I whole heartedly believe in them. (I had an issue with my inner ear when I first saw him, I swore I had a tumor or something deadly and he discovered it was a yeast overgrowth, put me on natural meds and it significantly improved!) I just want to encourage anyone and everyone to try a hollistic doctor. They use YOUR body to tell you what's wrong! Most people think it's whacky, yet we are so quick to run to a doctor who merely GUESS what they THINK it COULD be, then prescribe us some artificial concoction called a prescription that's chemically made in a lab, and we eat it up?! Crazy! The earth is made with everything natural we need to heal our bodies, and our bodies can tell you what the problem is! They're AMAZING vessels, don't underestimate it! Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts! Hoping for complete relief soon, mostly just for my peace of mind!

Hey guy! I seen that a few of you recently posted so hopefully i can get some feedback/advice. I have started having really bad health anxiety after have my son last september. It has definately died down alot but i have my days. Anyways about 5 months ago i noticed i had a lump just under my ear lobe i figured it was lymph node and it would go down although i wasnt sick or anything. Well about 2 months later it was still there so i went to the doctors they did blood work and an ultrasound, everything came back normal and the lymph node was measured at about 2cm. I kinda just pushed it out of my mind plus bei g busy with school i didnt notice it until recently it felt bigger when i woke up the other morning, i put it off to sleeping on my earrings and it was irritated, some swelling went down since then but it still feels bigger than what it was (it also use to fluctuate in size) i went back to the doctor and got another cbc (normal beside slightly high MCV) and the doctor said she felt other swollen lymph node throughout my neck, i myself cannot feel then but it worries me now! She recommended me to a hematologist and go on wednesday but i am terrified! My question is does the elevated MCV mean anything serious? Possibly related? Any ideas why it would still be swollen, as well as others in my neck when im not sick..im affraid its something serious (that horrible c word) but i feel fine no other symptoms so idk what to think.

Yessss, I too have swollen lymph nodes in my neck, Its been like a couple of months since Ive had them, maybe longer. I tried to donate plasma, everything checked out, until the doctor checked my neck, I had no clue before then that they were swollen. I was scared out of my wits, Google wasn't my friend either. I recently went to the ER, would of went sooner but was scared of what the outcome would be, but I sucked it up and went. He asked me if I lost weight without trying, or having Night sweats, to both answer's I replyed with "No" after that he pretty much sent me on my way.

Did they do any test at the hospital for you? Ive thought about going but ive already gone to the doctor so much i feel like theyre gonna start thinking in crazy lol my doctor asked me the same about weight loss and night sweats too, i did drop 12 lbs super fast but i was going to a rough time with my anxiety and was hardly eating or drinking because i was so anxious for like a month after that passed i didnt loss any more weight up until now but ive been trying to. They probly brushed you off cause you dont have any other symptoms but its still concerning...i think!

No, Just the simple "rubbing of the neck" I was kind of worried free after that. As I type, their actually smaller than normal, but it differs throughout the day. But only sweating I do is from walking in the Sun, probably have lost some weight lol.

So, I'm not sure if anyone is still active on this discussion, but I'm so glad I stumbled upon it! I too have anxiety and I've been driving myself crazy about my lymph nodes (at least, that's what I think they are). I noticed this lump in my left armpit years and years ago- it was kinda oval shaped, pretty small, slightly movable, and I showed my mum at the time and she said it's just a lymph node, it'll go down, nothing to worry about. I completely forgot about it, and then rediscovered it about 6 months ago. I got freaked out that it was still there and went to the doctors. They referred me to have an ultrasound on it (where I also got the lady to ultrasound my neck because I always feel a lump on the right side of it) and she told me that they were both definitely lymph nodes and they didn't look out of the ordinary. She discharged me, and I was completely put at ease.

Until last week. On holiday I was applying suncream, and low and behold I find ANOTHER lump in my left armpit, much lower down this time and close to my breast. Well, complete panic ensued. I broke down and hysterically told my mum I had breast cancer. She felt the lump and thought it felt identical to the other armpit one (it does). Again, it feels slightly more oval than round, it's fairly hard (but not rock solid) and completely smooth. It also moves around a bit. I'm going to book a doctor's appointment for tomorrow, because I stupidly googled it, and the results have panicked me again. I think it probably is a lymph node, but why am I able to feel all these nodes that apparently people shouldn't be able to feel?? I assume I'll get re-referred back to the hospital for another ultrasound. I'm really scared it's something serious. I'll keep you updated!

    I'm a 24 y/o female.

I know exactly how you feel! Do you have any other symptoms? Or have you been sick recently?

I haven't been sick recently, no. I keep feeling like I have a dull ache down my left side, but that seems to come and go depending on when I'm thinking about it, which makes me think it's because I'm worrying too much!

I'm just about to go to the doctors now.

      Hello Natalie,

How was your update? I think i also had the same symptom for 4 month now. Mine is on my right side of my neck, feel swollen if i touched it. Had a CT scan last month and result came out all to be normal. Doctor even told me there is nothing to be worried about. But it feels sore around my right neck, and sometimes it trigger some pinching headache. I even have health anxiety because i'm too worried about it. Been seek for 5 doctors for confirmation. They all say the same thing..

Yeah im with both of you. 22 year old male. I have 2 swollen lymph nodes 1-1.5 cm big under jaw on both sides and 2 more swollen nodes an inch below both ear lobes. They have been there for 4-5 months now. They are very firm/hard, havent grown in size, and do not hurt at all when i touch them or move them. I do have these dull pains in my neck, specifically areas where the nodes are and dull/sharp pains in my neck and behind ears. The pains in my neck and behind ears come and go, and hurt depending on the way my head or neck is twisted or facing.

I have very bad health anxiety as well and am a hypochondriac. Google always points to the worst possible senario. I recently read an article written by a doctor that helped my axiety go down a little. It said that 0.4% of unexplained swollen lymphnodes under the age of 40 is cancerous. That chance is so low. And people with unexplained swollen nodes above the age of 40 had a 4% chance it was cancerous. So the odds are very very slim but its still hard to get rid of anxiety and not think about it. Health anxiety is the worst....

      That's right RawDogRyan,

We need to over come this together. Health anxiety keep you worried every minutes..Feeling lousy every morning after you woke up from sleep. Terrible feeling, all that appear to be negative feelings and thoughts! What I am doing now is to exercise everyday and take multi vitamins and also drink plenty of fluids. Don't touch the node part always. Trust me it will freak you out everytime you touch it. The only thing is irritating was the dull pain over the swolen area. Pain keep come and go... sad

      Hi again,

The doctor has referred me to the breast clinic to get checked out and rule out anything malicious. I have the appointment on Monday, so will update after then.

Everything came back normal for me. Apparently some people just have some of their lymph nodes nearer to the surface! Feeling completely reasurred now. Hope everyone else gets the same.

      Hi Natalie,

I'm so glad to hear from you that everything is all going fine. smile

Yes, doctor also told me that last month, he say some people had their lymph nodes near to the surface, and some people had different size in each side. But mine are sore the the area, it come and go. Sometimes it even had strobbing pain for few secound. Do you expierience the same too?

    • Posted

No, I haven't had any pain! The thing worrying me was that I could feel them, but that's been put at ease now.

      Hi Kala,

My swollen lymph node are still there,it don't grow any larger and still maintain the same size. followed by throbbing and sore around the swollen area down to my shoulder is still active. It is still there turning on and off. But my pinching headache is gone! How nut you? any better?

It's the same for me too. Same size for like 10 years now. I think when we push on them they get sore in the general area. You can feel practically all my lymph nodes, but they seem to all stay the same size. I lost weight, but that is a side affect of the meds I'm on. I can feel the ones in my groin too because I'm thin I guess. I'm going to get them checked out next Thursday. Completely terrified though.

Sooooo I ended up going to an urgent care facility today because I was just tired of fretting my life away. The doc did a chest xray (I had some weird colored stuff in my mucas) and felt all of my lymph nodes. The xray was 100% clear with no swollen lymph nodes there (which was SUCH a relief). He said the mucus was just from a popped blood vessel etc. As for the lymph nodes he ordered a complete set of labs to check everything. Even a mono test which he said could have caused them to swell and never return to normal size since I was never properly diagnosed. He said since I've had them for so long and the largest one is only 2 cm, it is most likely NOT lymphoma. Which is a relief.. but he also said it isnt his specialty, so he is referring me to a general surgeon to see if he wants to biopsy one. So I'm still super nervous.. as far as the other labs it could be a thyroid issue which causes swollen nodes sometimes. I'm hoping and praying it isn't cancer (because I'm terrified), but it is most likely not. As far as the weight loss.. that is probably due to the medication I am on and all the worrying. But it could also be due to a thyroid issue. I was crying like the whole time, so he prescribed me some xanax to get it together while I wait for all the results of everything. I feel a little better about it all, but not really. I guess I won't really know until the labs come back or the general surgeon says I'm okay.

hi natalie, I'm not sure if any of those doctors actually have told u this or not but it is NOT normal for having these lumps, but then again, they are harmless, it just that these lumps are annoying to have. I have them too, they are there to block bacteria to get to ur body, as a kid, our immune system is still weak so the lumps act as counter measure. I think you can sue those doctors that you went to for misleading u, and wasting your time& money. (and this apply to everyone else that waste their time for this too, if u earn some good money from this, don't forget to tks me lol)

Anyway, think about it, if it wasn't there before, how come they could explain its sudden appearance as "some of the lymph nodes nearer to the surface", they are just guessing ur systoms.

You should try to see a holistic doctor, if u read kristina96650's reply, holistic doctor is better at understand human and it helped her

      Good luck :D
