I am sure you will do fine but remember it is going to take time to heal meaning months not weeks or days. It is going to hurt but as long as you take your meds follow Dr.'s orders do your exercises you will be fine. The one word that really describes the healing is PATIENCE.

My first post ! I wish you luck on surgery!hopefully your group will communicate throughout the recovery. If not

this is s great forum. This was my second TKR Jan 24th. My first was in 2012. I still find great advice from the group!

Sending prayers of CALM and STRENGTH and FAITH to you as you prepare yourself for surgery!🤗??🤗

Having a positive outlook is SO important as you prepare!

Think about the end game of HEALING and being without pain because the cause of the pain is being removed from you.

Recovery will be work, but it will bring STRENGTH and the ability to get your life back again. You will be VERY glad you did this!🤗

Many thanks for all your kind comments and support.

I will be sure to keep you posted when its all over getting very anxious now.

After waiting since November 14th the long wait is nearly over but this last piece of waiting is a very strange feeling.

Not sure how i will sleep tonight but i have to be up at 5 am.sad

Yes, it IS strange knowing that the surgery time has arrived! The not-knowing how your body will react can be strange, too. I found that by actually looking forward to the whole thing, to thinking of getting rid of the pain and realizing that the recovery would BRING peace... finally... allowed me to rest.

I pray for a peaceful rest for you tonight and a successful tomorrow!♥️

Cannot speak for anyone else but every time I have a surgery the odds of getting any sleep the night before are slim if any. So you get up get to the hospital and you get ready to go sleep. The surgery is nothing to worry about you are asleep thank God!! its just reality hits once you wake up.Not sure if you have a choice but I have found forearm crutches are much more comfortable then the std crutches that fit under your arms. Really wish you the best you have a long road ahead of you.

It is a strange time just before op date. Very mixed. How lovely your grandchildren and daughter came. Think of all the lovely visits to come.  Warm wishes.

Your journey starts after your op. Remember it is a journey and not a race, you will get there. Don't get disheartened if you think your recovery is not as quick as you think it should be. Everyone recovers at a different rate. Physio and exercise are very important, as is your medication you need to control your pain as best you can, not easy to exercise if you are in pain. Ice elevate and rest also important. Once you have recovered you should have many pain free years to look forward to.

Well here I am lying in bed after the op wondering why I decided to put myself through this much pain.

I read many of the postings on thus forum regarding how much it hurts.

but until you experience it yourself you really do not know how it really does get things into

    Perspective

here I am 1.30 am not knowing how I will ever cope when the physiotherapists comes round none of the painkillers work at all morthine doesn't do a thing

Yes....it's unadulterated agony to start with. Don't be afraid to ask for the Oramorph every hour though...there is a slight build up effect. If you can get it every hour.....my nurses seemed to forget your request for an hour or so....busy. Also had a Physio Cool bandage & spray to ice my knee from time to time. It doesn't take away the pain entirely but helps a little. I found the pain did ease slightly after day 4. Don't let the physiotherapist push you too hard. Day 14 for me. I feel your pain. Try to stay positive. Kim

      Hi there!

So sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much pain! I had a nerve block which was placed prior to surgery and then Toradol injections every six hours throughout the first 24 hours. Ask if they will give you Toradol. It really helps.

TRY to focus on HEALING. TRY to stay as positive as you can. Positivity causes the body to produce endorphins which help with pain.

Sending prayers of calm and peace and strength to you. These first few days can be challenging, but you will make it. You will.♥️

So sorry to hear. I remember that feeling of not sleeping and pain. The noise of the ward. Mophine didn't have any real affect. Ice and another stonger painkiller which I can't think of what it was.

You must tell them how painful it is. Everyone has different reactions This is a shock to the body abd it is such a low point. Just know i will get better and once you are home and are in your own surroundings it will helo.

All here for you. Take care abd please tell the nurse about it.

Sad to hear it's so bad.

The medication definitely worked for me.

Ask for more. Tell them you need more or more often for now.

Night time is always going to seem worse.

You WILL get there Defender you WILL.
