Taking Levothyroxine at night improved my life.

I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.

I am so mad right now. I have been on Levothyroxine for years and no one ever told me to take it before eating and I always took it with my other meds. I will try taking it at night before I eat from now on. I'll have to let sister know about this as she is on it too. Thanks.

Hi debb64913
Yes it will get better in time. Remember that. You have to give your body time to get used to the synthetic version of T3/T4. Keep up the blood tests and do some research on foods that help and foods that hinder. I know for me taking it at night helped especially with the vertigo. Eventually you won't feel so energy drained and will be able to walk or swim. Ano iron tonic or Jon constipation iron tablet may help also but do not take any iron suppliment the same time as your thyroid med leave 4 hours between. Persivere and stay strong mentally.

I also have been taking Levothyroxine, only for a week though. Not feeling much better and I'm very aggravated. My new PCP just caught my thyroid problem. I gained 80 pounds 3 years ago and started feeling achy and weak with no energy and was never hungry. Also I am hot alllll the time and sweat alot. Anyone else have the heat problem? I have been taking the medication in the morning, along with other medication. I'm going to try taking it at night, hopefully it'll help. (My blood work was also borderline but I am Very symptomatic!) I'll let you guys know, thanks!

Sidne what time do have your last meal? Really you shouldn't be eating after 8pm, especially a big meal and then going to bed. The latest time I take my levothyroxine is 9pm just before I go to bed. Waking up at 4am is disturbing your sleep then if the meds you take at 7am contain iron it will bind the levothyroxine I understand we are all different but you may consider adjusting your eating times slightly to accommodate your meds.

I usually eat by 8pm and take my med by 9-9.30pm. I get up at 6am to go the gym. I use to take it in the morning but suffered from vertigo throughout the day. It was reading this post about taking it at night time that has helped me. It seems to work for me. I feel that my fatigue has improved, giving me the ability to grace the gym with my presence lol. I think with this thyroid thing it is all trial and error. I also take 150mg of levothyroxine as there was no change when I was taking 50mg then 100mg. I didn't think I would ever lose weight, I do have to work extra hard but it's possible. Give it two weeks taking it before you go to bed whatever time that is. Another suggestion is to take it with plain water with some vitamin C. It's supposed to help your medication absorb better. Hope this helps

Hi if you take your meds at night time, it should be at least 3-4 hours after your last meal to ensure the food has digested and there is nothing left to interfere with the absorption of your meds. I have my last meal at 7pm. Then take my levo as I'm going to bed between 10-11pm

If you are taking it in the morning and are symptom free, I'd stay as you are. People usually swap to taking it at night because it causes things like a foggy head / tiredness after taking it in the morning
