Taking Levothyroxine at night improved my life.

I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.

i know this post is a little old, but, this is the first time i have read about someone (other than myself) who could NOT take my levothyroxine during the day, it made me so sick, nauseaus, that headache thats not pounding, but enough to ruin a day. i was about to give up on the medicine, when my doctor suggested taking it at night. i almost laughed, except, was willing to try anything to rid myself of the crippling symptoms. and THE NEXT DAY, i was like a new person, i honestly thought it was coincidence, and was happy just to have the brain fog gone if even for a day, but it wasnt coincidence, it truly worked, and i tried (at the time, like 3 years ago) to find another person out there who had this same problem with taking it in the daytime, and that day is today. so, if you have hypothyroidism, and you try your medicine and think it doesnt work, try before going to bed, and definately on an empty stomach (that part is important, and a little difficult) but it works for me, and i hope maybe it will work for someone who is in the situation i was in before i tried it.

    Hi everyone.

So my journey has been quite a ride with thyroid. I was diagnosed at 22 with over active thyroid where they out ne on carbimazole but after a severe allergic reaction they decided that radioiodine would be best option with having thyrotoxicosis.

I am now under active thyroid and have been up and down on meds. I recently had a little baby girl in may and during my pregnancy my thyroid was at the best it has ever been.

Since having my baby I am now on a high dse again of 225mg but that's not the main thing. I have severe hair loss. Massive patches all over my head. Has anyone else experienced this.

I had my son almost 5 months ago. My levels were spot on nearly perfect when I was carrying, taking about 56mcg per day of levo. Currently on 100mcg because my levels "skyrocketed" as my endo so vaguely put it, and I'm having the worst brain fog ever. Sometime I feel like I'm going crazy, becoming dislexic. Just reading these forums is a challenge, because every few minutes I have to reread typos just to find that they werent typos at all, my brain is just messing with me. Weigh gain, hair loss just got worse this last week, dry skin, sluggishness, dare I say depression...you should lose some hair after having a baby, but not as you described. I hope it gets better for you!

I have just been reading some of the threads on this group and found it all so helpful.  I have been diagnosed with an underactive thryoid for about 8 years and also suffer from chronic migraine.  I feel that some of my migraine issues are related to my underactive thryoid and medication.  Today I feel so foggy and tired - you would think by now I would be used to it but I am not.  I have also had a lot of pain in my ankles recently when walking and not realised this could be linked.  I think I need a good chat with my GP again.

I have also read with great interest about taking my medication at night.  I take meds for my migraine before I go to bed but I think I am going to try my levo at night too and see how it makes me feel.  Thank you all for your comments and very useful information.

I've ben asking my GP and Endocrinologist for a tyroid supplement for over 4 years. It seemed the only likely solution to my chronic fariigue (I don't have CF Syndeome).

I have at last been given 50 mcg tablets of Levothyroxine which I have taken every morning for 4 weeks now with absolutely no improvement.I have no adverse effects but still feel I'm "runnng on empty". I was told my levels were on the low side of "normal". Any suggestions on how long before I give up? Orshould I persevere? I'm to have a blood test after I've been on them for 6 weeks. Is 50 mcg enough?

Hi. I have also been on levo for just 4 was but I'm on 100. Expect some time for it to take effect. Ive had some side effects whilst my body is adjusting to it, mainly tiredness. Your bloods will show where the meds are helping and if the dosage needs adjusting. Don't give up

2 Golden Rules for maintaining thyroid levels.

    1. Ensure ur taking thyroid medicine empty stomach

    2. Ensure ur not having anything 3 to 4 hrs after taking medicine. This will help thyroxine to absorb properly in blood which will result in improved thyroxine levels in ur blood and u vl start feeling good.

Dt is y ideal time would b taking medicine before going to bed which actually allows thyroxine medicine to b absorbed completly. Remember thyroxine absorbtion will nt b as effective if taken just b4r half an hr of meal or any other medicine bcoz they might actually obstruct thyroxine absorption in blood.

I am a thyroid patient since 6 months and I take my medicine in morning 3 am. This method helped me lot in terms of boosting my energy levels and controlling other thyroid associated symptoms as well.
