Taking Levothyroxine at night improved my life.

Posted , 159 users are following.

I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.

I just got my results and a prescription yesterday and started 25 mcg of levothyroxine this morning.I figure since I just started on it this morning it won't hurt if I wait until tomorrow evening to take my second and just keep it like that.I may have a hard time waiting for the designated time though.we are on a pretty strict time schedule of dinner at 6 because of my daughters diabetes and I am already dragging by the time supper is made. bedtime is at 8:30 because I can barely even make a sentence that make sense because I am so tired and alarm for work is 5 am.I will definately try this starting tomorrow,I know that its going to take time until I start feeling better especialy since I suspect I have been living with this for more than 20 years.any kind of improvement is better than what has been my life for so long.thank you for this any info is better than none and not feeling so alone even though I am surrounded by many.

I know this post is fairly old, as are most of the responses; but I just wanted to thank YOU FIRST DOREEN and the fellow questioners/repliers!!!! Reading this whole thread (just after rcvg phone call from doc about the 3 blood tests dine yesterday), has nothing given me such sheer delight and hope!!!

I was diagnosed at the beginning of 2016 with a severe case of hypothyroidism, after months if not a year of telling my doctor I felt something was wrong and would like my blood tested for everything under the stars. I am in process of finding a new doctor, (preferably an endocrinologist) but I reside in the US and am in special insurance that does not provide many options. My phone call today said all my tests came back great, but I have yet to see/feel any changes. He also stated he would not be raising my dosage, adding any other meds such as T3 supplements and keeps reiterating it takes 3-6mo to feel better.

Maybe I am rushing things, but when you feel as lousy and unable to be productive as I do, this wait feels like an eternity. I have been on 100mcg for 5mo now and the ONLY change is a wee bit less hair loss. If ALL OF YOU claim switching to pm dosing has helped I am so ready to start...TONIGHT!!!

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR STORIES AND INPUT! ANY OTHER ADVICE FOR A NEWBIE WOULD BE OH SO WELCOME! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

I too, have experienced intesely irritating itching. I have noticed though, that since starting Levo, EVERYTHING has become unusually dry. My skin (itchy and flaky), my hair is extra dry and brittle (never in my life have I had dandruff, but now I randomly have dry/itchy/flaky scalp), and my nails still grow like weeds, but they are dry and brittle. I take 100mcg of Levo right before I fall asleep (make sure it's been a few hrs since eating or taking pain meds), and everyday I take a women's multi vitamin, complete B vitamin, vitamin c, vitamin d, and a greens supplement powder in water. Sometimes I need to add Iron for a few weeks/month. **Wondering if "we" added Biotin supplement, it would help. It's for skin, nails, and hair health..I give it to my pups and they have way better fur and nails so..... :D**

I know more than you asked, lol, but YES. I have super dryness going on so I tend to itch a lot more than ever in my life.

*** I wind up using medicated itch/dryness lotion like Gold Bond and some Benedryl (anti-hysthamine pill or two), but that is if it is baaaad cause it will make me sleepier.ย

I was diagnosed chronic hypothyroidism two weeks ago. Luckily I was referred directly to an endocrinologist. I am on day 3 of thyroxine. Today is the worst, as I am feeling really punch drunk.

I have more bloods to be checked and have also been told to have bone density scans.

As I have only just started (125mg plus 50g selenium) I have to give it a bit of time before I can judge. If I am kept on this dose after my re-tests in 2 months then I may well consider switching to night time taking. Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences.

Hi Doreen ! I just wanted to ask you the process of taking the thyroid pill at night. Do you have to still take it on an empty stomach ? If so , how long before taking the pill should your last meal or bite be ? Thank you so mich

Just came across your post about when to take the medication, it has worked, giving me a good nights sleep, and on the whole feeling less lethargic upon waking.

      Many thanks.
