Stress will definitely make things worse than they are.  Did you ever stop and think that it is stress causing everything? Maybe?

You definitely need to get off the valium.  That truly isn't doing you any good.

You need to set a good example for your daughters.  AF is heridatory you know.

I lost my younger brother to cancer and he never complained once and suffered excruciatingly for years with cancer.

Ellen62 and I probably have the same opinion - Ibiza1977 is very sick mentally and needs help- if she can snap out of her destructive cycle and actually get to a professional.

Yep-and if she could also realise that not eating and laying about all the time is not good for the electrolytes balance

When you read her posts, she has 2 daughters and a partner and seems completely self centered. I have a lot of sympathy for them.

      Yes you're totally right.

She's certainly not a good role model.

There are so many people out there of varying ages, a lot much younger than she who have extremely serious illnesses that don't look for pity.

Some people may find me hard and opinionated, true. But, I worked with disabled people who have pain that never goes and limbs missing, they stay cheerful and do everything to make the carer job easier. I do not have a lot of patience with mental illness .

Why do drs..say afib weakens the heart and could give you heart failure..?
    • Posted

Because it's true if the af is not treated.

I would be interested to know who has told you that AF weakens the

heart and presumably therefore affects adversely longevity. My consultant and GP advised me strongly not to risk ablation (I am 75yrs old with a symptomatic permanent AF) and told me that, treated or untreated, my AF would not make any difference to how long I would live.

Donald. Are you on any medication ? I take my Amiodarone as I really think my heart is going to explode when it rattles at 247.  Now I have peace.

      Hi Jay

My comment had a misprint Ie 'a symptomatic' should have read 'asymptomatic' meaning that I don't have any symptoms. My medication, for some time now, has been 150 mg of Dabigatran (blood thinner) twice a day and 5mg of Bisoprolol once a day.

..without ever contracing efficiently, after a few months or permanent AF, the atria do indeed become 'flabby' and lose their tone.

Electrophysicist told me that..I do not have symptoms that I feel...paradoxomsmal  afib..

Well it goes to show if you have a roomful of doctors/consultants faced with a diagnosis you'll get at least two prognoses. An EP I consulted about my paf (and who advised ablation) told me that prolonged arrhythmia does weaken the heart valves/muscles as the heart is built for sinus rhythm.

I must say that I'm amazed that the  heart can work at all when I'm in fibrillation.

I was told that even though I do not feel it. In a way lucky ..in a way not ..don't know its there but I do because of the halter monitor..
