Thigh muscle cramp

I have often had calf muscle cramp, but this is easily dealt with by walking about. However, last night I had a thigh muscle cramp which was far more acute than anything I had had before. The pain was excruciating and lasted ten minutes. My face went grey and I almost fainted. I couldn't walk and massaging seemed to have little effect.

It's as if a T-Rex has a grip on you and is ripping you out of your bed! These started for me about 7 years ago. Some things that have helped:
Magnesium Malate (never sterate, hard on kidneys) and potassium with evening meal
1/4 cup Quinine tonic water befor bed and Stops Leg & Foot Cramps liquid..Just shoot it down, it's not tasty. Have water chaser to follow.
Magnesium oil on legs and feet before bed
Wear loose socks to keep feet warm, even knee highs to keep legs warm.
'The Rub' on legs and feet
Stay off ladders
Heat and vibration help but hard to get instant heat in the middle of screaming. Might get some instant heat packs and have by bed.
Opposite muscle used makes cramp muscle release. If cramp is on inner thigh get to a doorway and press outter thigh against it or have spouse push against outter thigh while you push against that. If on outter thigh push legs together. It will take the longest 20 seconds to start to release, just deep breathe thru it.
Stops Leg & Foot Cramps liquid sold at Ace hardware ($10.). Amish recipe and since I have taken at bedtime had only 1 episode of being woken by T-Rex monster.
DO NOT STRETCH in morning while in bed. Get on feet as soon as you wake up, especially if you feel a cramp coming on or in the middle of one.
Now all of us with these cramps know what a heart attack is going to feel like.

Currently the second cramp is in the right upper leg. Each laboured step was of a burning and semi paralysedfrom the hip down. I could just move. Thank go my heating pad kicked in. Im still zonked from earlier Endone.
I take 2 statins and i completely forgot to bite the area of long flesh twixt fore finger and my thumb.
Time for a magnesium capsule...and some big glasses of water.
Regards
Buster

So..who are you...a male or a female. Me I'm a Male. .i live near shark central called Shark Island in Sydney. There was one post that was from a Dr Mathews. He or she said that the legs or specifically the calf muscles have the job of pumping yhe blood at night back to the heart. Man that muscle does a lot of pimping day in day out. I reckon the pain we have in our legs is the same pain I'm going to have in my heart. Its half 12 here in the morning. I've been welding all day and night. I almost had a spasm. ..but i just moved my sitting position slightly. ..I've got some rush medical instruments to put together so my levels of concentration are acute. But as you get older as male or female no one has a butt anymore.
.it all starts heading south at 30 or even less. ..more fat takes its place. ..read all the previous replies and look for the Dr Mathews reply.
Still my levels of concentration psyd off in target shooting. ..mostly get a 199 out of 200 consistently. ...tha5s my sport and sailing where i have noticed when seated that any blockage to the hind qusrters can bring on a spasm. Ive watned my crew what they have to do....and thats not lose the race. Throw me down below or try not to stand on me tleither. My ashes will be scattered near the Shark Idland starting area. ..not for a while I hope but who knows.
Do stretches before bed lengthening the schilles at the heel. Wear socks to keep warm .if you get hot...dangle them out out onto the matress. ..drink plenty of water and take a Magnesium forte tablet.
But get sll that cleared wih your Doctor.
Have a great day.
..do some walking low impact exercise and some running in water at chest height.. .go on hava go. ..throw another prawn on the barbie ..regards Buster

After a break of probably 3 months, I have had two awful sessions with inner thigh cramp recently and only about a week apart. One was just getting out of bed - and no, I never sleep in the fetal position any more, and one when sitting on an unfamiliar sofa which was comfortable and supportive but aybe wrong for me.
I am tring crampbark tablets and will see if that helps. I dont find the crampex ones work. And I am going to keep a diary to see what is really going on.
Good luck everyone with your own solutions.

Agreed! Stretch and massage the thigh. During my daughter's volleyball, I stand between each set and stretch, walk and massage my thighs before sitting back down. It does help.

Hi there. WAIT till youve been invited of for dinner with wifes old work friend. ..dinner perfect. ..my leg goes into a mind numbing spasm snd i disappear under the table and off the elegant chair.
Everyone x 3 jump up and say you know what! . Thank God it didnt take me...what do you think they THOUGHT ?
THE husband a former Test Rugby player reached under the table grabbed my 6 ft 5 260 lb body and half carried and dragged me off to the front bedroom where pedestrian passerbys could look in a see Rugby field treatment to a sobbing 50 yearold man. I never walked or talked the same again .
I've been warned never to behave like that again in company. Now when it happens i just sit and cry...causing her even more embarrassment. It'll happen to you too one day babe...I'm not wishing it on you...but you need educating darling. We hardly socialise these days....bliss at last.

I am so happy that I found this thread. I just had my 3rd ever inner thigh spasm. The first one I had caused me to think it was a blood clot and I was sure I would be dead in a few minutes. I just pressed hard on the pain until it finally passed moaning, rocking and praying the entire time. Tonight for the first time, even before reading it here, I thought it could be stemming from my back. I have degenerative disc disease in my L5/S1 which have left me on permanent disability. The oain started ib the groin, down to the back of my knee and then would switch to the back outer and back up almost to the butt. It appeared to be trying to go through the sciatic nerve. I never could have stood up during it. I'm afraid to stand up now, or lay back down. But I tgank you all for you suggestions. I will be trying some of them soon.
