hang in there, keep your leg raised when resting so the blood flows up the leg. The pain should go way in the next few weeks. try and stay active and massage the knee whenever possible.

Docs never prepare you for this very brutal op. First 12 weeks or so are always the worst. Take your pain meds on schedule then start titrating down (Tramadol). Use a topical anti-inflammatory like Voltaren Gel (diclofenac) 4X/day...especially at bedtime. You will likely feel pain in the knee plus other parts of your body. For the knee, you must do the muscle rebuild to take the load off the knee and put it back on the now-dead muscles where it belongs. The "other" pain is also manageable. These can help...

You also need to get your ROM back!!! PT plus work at home...

Where was the block done? By a pain management doctor in your spine under fluoroscopy? I've had a few of those...never worked for more than a week, but.....

My neurosurgeon ordered them to make sure that he was operating in the right place. For him, it was a diagnostic tool. That's how he found the bone spur at L4 (cured my sciatica) and knew to do the fusion at L2/L3 to totally cure my stenosis.

yes by a pain management doctor, she did it right in the knee!!! i didnt think she could do that because there is no bone, just plastic or whatever they use for the replacement.

You get an alignment x-ray at 6-8 weeks. Doc takes a picture of your whole leg and draws a straight line from hip to ankle. If it passes directly through the center of the new knee, then the surgery was perfect.

The first 12 weeks are the worst for pain. Very few people escape that fate. You need to stay on your EXACT med schedule so the drug in your bloodstream is maintained at a therapeutic level. Skip doses and you get a roller coaster effect. Don't do that!!! Lots of people take their meds an hour before PT so they can get through a session. On opioids, you CANNOT drive yourself!!! Period!!!

It's in these 12 weeks that you get your ROM to (or close to) the target of zero straight and +120 bent. This is very individual and painful because no one can predict how much scar tissue your DNA will generate. There will be advances, setbacks and plateaus. ALL of that is normal. I got stuck at -4 for weeks before breaking through. I started -14 / +84 but at 12 weeks, I was -1 / +123; at 4 years, I'm 0 / +133. Takes time, work and patience.

Scar tissue also depends on the surgeon finesse, skill etc.

I have never heard of an alignment x-ray at 6-8 weeks. I don't think they do that on the NHS. I wish they did.

I am 15 degrees off straight and 80 degrees bend, after 7.5 months. I have been trying to straighten my leg with the aid of a 12kg weight, with no success!!!!!

I am not please with my operation!

In one of my replies above, check the link for ROM Work At Home. #3 is a KILLER but it really works on getting the leg straight. You may want to consider a knee therapy slide device to help with the flexion. Wrap a belt around your ankle and pull. Warm up the knee first. Worked for me.

i lay chest down with thigh and knee on cushioned stool with 12kg weight strapped to ankle and count to 300 i do this 10 times a day for two weeks, my knee is still bent, no change!! It wont move! do you work for the NHS?

That really stinks! i can bend my knee to over 120 degrees which is good but i know when im walking i pull my let off to the side a little bit! i can hear it cracking and always think its going to pop!

thats one of the reasons they did the tkr , my patella would pop out of socket and i would have to push it back in!! talk about PAIN! i know I will not do the other knee even though he wants to! had surgery on the other knee when i was 12 and my surgeon now said that the doctor didnt really do anything, i will get my left hip done! the hip replacment is nothing like tkr! i didnt even go to therapy except two times! thats horrible that your not happy with the surgery! i actually read that a LOT OF PEOPLE WERE UNSATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS! GETTING PAIN KILLERS WAS A NIGHTMARE!! i was in painkillers for my back for 7 years and when hey stopped working I just quit taking them! well my husband told he doctor and right away they thought i was an addict even though i quit taking them on my own 7 tears ago! wish he never said that!! they think your a drug addict even though i took them the right way! so everytime i asked for some they give me a hard time! horrible! these drug laws are ridiculious!

i was in higher meds for my hip replacement! i am so sorry your not happy with the results! that really stinks! goid luck to you! didnt mean to write a novel! lol
