Understanding the Invisable

If you fibro folk can bear another thought on today's society!   Written after a comment from a friend - made me think how many folk out there are misunderstood.   Called No Spots.

No spots, no scars, no walking frame

No cast, no splints or bandages

And so she is not entitled to consideration or a kindly word

A shirker, hypochondriac.

Fatigued she said

We all get tired

It’s more than that she cried

I’m numb, exhausted, foggy brained

Blind in one eye.

But still no visible reason for her laziness

Believing her to be

A benefit cheat as the papers say

For all of us to see.

She limps sometimes and then forgets

Or so it seems to them

They have no comprehension

One day fine another not to suit her they believe

If only they would take the time to see what is

Underneath

And understand the nature of her ills

but quick to judge they are

Their accusations and their gossip

Eventually reach her ears

She can take no more  and an

Overdose finds her on the floor.

Guilty neighbours rally round

If only we had known

We could have helped her cope they cried

And now, well what of now

community rallied round and we find

A caring happy neighbourhood where

Side by side man and woman stand

United to the cause

To treat as would be treated one and all.

Sorry to hear your having a bad day Maggers 😔 I replaced my wedding ring last month for much the same reasons, it cheered me up no end to be able to wear it again. Whatever you decide on I hope it cheers you up some.

    Take care, gentle hugs ☺️Xx

Thanks Lisa - seems we girls think along the same lines.  Would have been nice if he had thought of it himself though but he's a man!

Hi maggers hows it going for a replacement wedding ring cant wear mine at miniute finger swollen up and very painful take care
    • Posted

Poor you.  The replacement ring is work in progress. Sew the seed, wait a while, take him shopping for new suit for our son's wedding. Only visit the one mens shop the one of course next door to the jewellers because he only goes into one shop for clothes for himself and Bingo with a bit of luck one new ring on the way out.

I can't really complain to much about my husband. He's amazingly good in so many ways but by his own admission he will say, "men are more practical in their thinking. The nuts and bolts of thing. Women think far more on the emotional level, such as, how it affects another."

I think I get the point that women do tend to do things that make ourselves / others feel good, just because we can. Men catch on when we buy something and say thanks for my birthday etc gift. I've yet to meet a man who knows subtlety well 😀 We can all live in hope xx

Mine is great too otherwise we would not have survived 30+ yrs. Let's hear it for all the partners/other halves who keep us relatively sane.Where would we be without them.

Hi all; guess I must be lucky in that department....my husband has bought me soooo much jewellry (each birthday), that I become guilty as I can't get to wear it too often.....Bron

how lovely.  I spend quite a lot of time looking at antique jewellery and wondering what the story is behind each piece.
    • Posted

Morning Maggers; me too....I love to go into Antique shops (and luckily hubby enjoys them too)....and yes, the jewellery does make us feel for the person who had to sell these special pieces, as they must have been sentimental pieces from forebears....I could never sell my mother's jewellery, and so hope that I have passed on to my daughters the specialness of these, and they pass them onto their daughters etc...Bron

That's why the Antique Roadshow on TV is so wonderful, I love it when the people have jewellery and they know the history of who owned it. Sometimes I feel the jewellery carries the people's history or is that to fanciful.

Excuse me me being philosophical however bad day yesterday, hoping for better today.

Any mention of shopping and I am on my own. although he did take me to an antiques fair for my birthday which I absolutely loved.  Something about family owned jewellery.  I have my grandfather's watch which was given to my son on his 21st birthday and he wears it which is lovely.

I am a fan too. Love the expert who talks about the jewellery. His passion for each piece shines through. What a lovely job talking about and handling such beautiful things

I couldn't agree more, I especially love it when people are quite humble and are genuinely shocked by the value of the item they have treasured for years.

I  love being distracted by beautiful things, yesterday was a bad day so early evening we put on the movie called Renoir, not much plot but truely beautiful to look at, it certainly saved the day. Hope you day tomorrow is a lovely one and you can enjoy the spring.

      Hugs

I always hope that the owners are not tempted to part with their heirlooms when they are given the valuations.  I often wonder if they are tempted.

Me too, though maybe some of them are desperate for the money, maybe up kept of their crumbling houses. One can spend idle minutes speculating on people's lives and backgrounds.😎

Yay....My husban is just awesome..makes it possible for me to live a full life with this rotten Fibro plus the rest.....he loves me unconditionally doesn't only tell me, he shows it  by his very many acts of care and help...it's a cliche I know....but he completes me.....we have been married 39 yrs this August...I was such a controller-career and home..but he just let me get on with it...He often says...you don't need to keep thanking me if this was reversed you would do the same  for me, I know I would..but he has done this now for

24 years and probably yrs befire diagnoses....he is my hero..if I could give him a gold medal and have all his efforts recognised I would..know he'd hate that..he's too humble....thanks Maggers my favoutprite subject..a wonderful husband, son, uncle, dad and now granddad..as a Christian I know  God gave me His best..:-) have a lovely day...it 9.30am here and cold..but beautifully sunny..

Me too:   but knowing how I love my mother's things....I couldn't....not only her jewellery, but other things too.  Mum was an exceptional seamstress, knitter, embroidier and excelled at crochet.....hence I have many of these with me....hand embroidered tableclothes with crocheted edges, doilies, baby layettes that she did for each of my children (afte presenting them into the National finals and won first prize), jumpers that have beautiful pattens knitted into them...also as Dad was in the Rifle Club and a great shot,as well as raising Race Horses,  they have left me "the finest crystal water set", a Shelle Coffee Set, which were some of his prizes from both of his hobbies: and mum's collection of Antique Cups/saucers/side plates, which I actually add to.   So many beautiful things, and I know very expensive, but could not sell them....Mum also started collecting for me A Royal Albert Complete TeaSet...Concerto Design, which I can't add to as they don't make it anymore....one of my daughters has added to my already started Royal Albert Country Roses (which I know is quite common, but still beautiful).....My husband is always adding to the Coin and Stamp Sets that his Grandmother, Lady Gidsborough,  then his mother started....going back 200  years....with I know to have some rare coins/stamps as it was first started in England  and then from Kenya and Rhodesia, where my husband was born...another beautiful collection that his grandmother started is an Atlas of her handpainted butterflies,  she and hubby's mother were very good artists....the list goes on, but we are very proud/happy to have these beautiful things from the past.......(sorry if I sound as if I'm being over the top a bit, but  as we started talking re antiques...I have so much, and my family home is filled with furniture from 1786, when the house was first built....solid oak and mahogony....beautiful)...anyways now you know how much I love these special things from my family....Bron

If you ever need a piece of Royal Albert I know here in UK there is a specialist company dealing only in china no longer made. They have a huge warehouse full of odd bits and pieces and can find the match for most broken, or additional pieces.I can't for the  life of me remember what their name is but I saw a television programme on them. I was fascinated watching them go round auctions and buy up boxes of mixed china then go back and sort and store it.  I don't have much from my own family but quite a bit from my husband's including war medals and OBE,CBE etc so priceless to us.  The only thing I had was my grandfather's watch which my son  inherited on his 21st birthday.

Wish I could remember but you could just google replacements. I know they had all sorts of china from all manufacturers.  It was such an impressive warehouse and the staff were so knowledgeable.  I wish the fog would lift!

Thank you, don't worry, we can't store all the information we gather over the years, if we tried to our brains would explode😜 I think. I guess I could look on line, as you say.

Hi maggers; only just found this reply......I do have a couple of sights from England that I check out for old china ware, but not for the Royal Albert pieces (particularly looking for more of Moonlight Rose and The Concerto)...if you find the name, could you please email it to me ....I guess via PM.  so not to annoy others.?.....Bron

Hi Maggers;    yes to have a family member who received an OBE is special, and would be very proud of that person....we too have many war medals from both sides, and am proud of the people who fought sooo valiantly (no other word for it) in both wars....and when I see these things up for sale, it amazes me, but guess there are reasons????  Bron

did a quick google - there are loads specializing in all manufacturers even M&S tableware.  When you have a minute just google replacement china discontinued lines.

Thanks Maggers ou are a star 🌟.

Hi Bronwyn I too have family members that fought in both wars, I am extremely proud of them for giving their lives to save others. Their names are on war memorial in our local chuch.  Its sad if people have to sell the medals that were so gallently fought for. but sometimes when needs must your not left with a choice take care gentle hugs
    • Posted

Kaz - couldn't agree more and I am sure that those who were awarded such medals would totally understand the need sometimes for them to be sold particularly if it was a case of starving or putting food on the table. Sometimes needs must.  I love the things left to our family but to be totally honest the photographs in albums mean more. I worry that with the trend for all photos to be on computers and phones the good old photograph album will be a thing of the past. I have spent many a happy hour looking through photos and remembering the good old days of watching our children play in the same places we played as children. Memories are priceless.

Hi Kaz  couldnt agree more. I cannot remember the last time I  managed to sleep  more than 2-3 hours at a stretch.  It's  very lonely in the wee small hours.   The doctors have tried giving me medication but it just makes me ill.  Thank goodness for my kindle and some relaxation CDs.

Its all we can do really isn't it. My pets are quite used to me padding around in the wee small hours.  What really upsets me is when I get to work and I am absolutely exhausted  I get the comment "well we all get tired dont we" arrggghh

dont you want to scream when that gets said to youmad

Yep sure do. Then again I think well I don't know the symptoms of other illnesses so perhaps sometimes I put my foot in it. Although I would like to think I would take an interest and at least find out something about it so tht I was more informed and sympathetic.  Sometimes people are so wrapped up in their own little worlds they have no time to listen to others.

Hi to all; not too bad a weekend.....but it's b,,,English weather here today....drizzling rain and grey  skies........I think the First Fleet didn't just bring the Convicts, they also wanted some of the English Weather, too.....agh well.....just brings "the Old Stiff Muscles" with it....so will be off to the Physio ......keep up the chatter in those wee small hours.....and I do feel for you all, as "yes", there's nothing worse than no sleep....I think we should all start researching "sleep aids: for you guys, as it can't continue....your Rhythmic cycle will/could now be adjusted to these hours of being awake.....Not Good..................Bron

morning maggers Ive found that to be honest people are so wrapped up in their own lives they cant be bothered whats going on in any 1 elses lives. my friends arnt bothered what Im going through, I dont talk about fibro to any1 as people dont understand where fibro is concerned and how it affects our daily lives they dont like to hear Ivve been ill. but at the same time noot concerned or bothered enough to understand about the condition itself.so I just dont talk about it any 1 I just get on with it. at least on here we have each other for support we all know what each other is going through take care maggers smile

Hi maggers Ive had a go at doing a poem so see what you think.

Having Fibro is a really big PAIN

With all the different symptoms its a never ending game.

Numbness, fibro fog, tinnitus, leg pain to name but a few

The list is never ending so give us a clue?

With a never ending battle, we march on the best we can, supporting fellow fibromites, the best way we can.
