Went back for a TVU scan and the access as halved in size but my uterus is the size of a 4month pregnancy. I have been started on Zoladex implants for 3 months to help shrink this and possibly have surgery to remone one ovary, fallopian tube and my uterus, not had any side effects as of yet, just wnanted to know if there is anybody out there who has had similar and will i gat ant side effects.

Hi Nicola, the group discussion with the nurses was very informative, told me what to expect on the day of the op and the 3 or 4 days after when i will remain in hospital. Recovery for me can be anything from 8-12 weeks but the best advice is to listen to your own body !! For the first 2 weeks definatly be a "Lady of leisure" then they say gentle walking is good. You should contact your nurse at your doctors surgery or even the nurses at the hospital in the gyne department i sure they will have lots of information and advice  as  think it is very important to be prepared for this type of surgery. If you have any questions please ask

and i will be happy to help.

Hi Nicola and all of you lovely women taking the time to share.

I reached out to the other Nicola last night but since then I've read that you are having your operation in February. I'm about to start taking Zoladex to try and shrink my huge fibroids prior to surgery. I was just wondering if your fibroids shrunk at all with the Zoladex and if you mind sharing. Thanks. Angela. xx

      Hi Angela

I have had two zolodex implants and have not suffered too badly with side effects. I do get flushes and am less patient than normal but it is better than the bleeding and uncomfortable pressure I had before.

I haven't seen a doctor since I have had the zolodex but I'm feeling less pressure on my bladder so I think it must be working a bit.

Make sure you get the Emla cream to put on before you get your implant.

      Hope this helps

Hi Nic! Thinking of you for the 2nd. Like other Nicole says " lady of leisure" please! Are you having lap assisted' ? Don't forget your tummy medicine! In Australia it's Mintec orBuscopan but even mint tea helped with the intestinal upset. A nice nurse also said to bring your own pillow and favourite tea bags, boy I missed my Dilmah till the kids brought me some in! No housework for the month after either please! 😘

      Hi Debbie

Started packing my bag last night- eek. Am hoping not to have picked up the cold that the rest of my family have at the moment otherwise I will be postponed...

I am having an abdominal hysterectomy as the fibroids are so big, not ideal but they are hoping my wound will be similar to my c section scar. Will let you know how it goes...

      Hi Nicola

Just read your thread. It's all quite nerve racking not knowing what to expect. All of the women I've spoken to who have had a hysterecomy because of fibroids have said that they feel better than they did before the hysterectomy. Some of them have said its the best thing they've ever done. I wanted nothing but a myomectomy to begin with but based on the feedback I've been getting I am slightly in 2 minds now. I hope you are okay. I hope your operation goes to perfection and you recovery is smooth. I will be thining of you on the 2nd. Take care of you

Yes, I did think about trying other options but my mum suffered from this and said that she felt much better afterwards. I have three daughters who need their mum so I decided to get on with the op and get recovered as soon as I can. I am very fortunate to have had my family when I was younger as I just turned 40 on Christmas Eve- celebrations on hold until op over!!
