Hi i fell really ill with a Tubo-ovarian abcess in early July and they also discovered utrine fibroids within my uterus. Went back for a TVU scan and the access as halved in size but my uterus is the size of a 4month pregnancy. I have been started on Zoladex implants for 3 months to help shrink this and possibly have surgery to remone one ovary, fallopian tube and my uterus, not had any side effects as of yet, just wnanted to know if there is anybody out there who has had similar and will i gat ant side effects.

    Hi Nicola 99890

I'm so pleased to have found this thread. I am going through something very similar to yourself. I am 45 and I have no children. I am suffering hugely with very severe fibroids. I have an appointment with my GP next week to start on Zoladex and I am absolutely dreading it. My thoughts keep drifting in betwwen a myomectomy and a hysterectomy. My consultant is waiting to see how the zoladex works before we get to that decsion. I hope you are coping well with the Zoladex. Well done for getting this far with it, it sounds like tough going. I've been trying to prepare as much as possible for coping with the side effects of zoladex. My herbalist has reommended sage leaf tea which helps with hot flushes and wheat grass which helps to cleanse the system amongst other things. I'll be happy to share with anyone who's interested. Sending cooling and calming thoughts to you.

Hi Angela, Yes I found the Zoladex quiet an unpleasnt exprience especially the 2nd and 3rd and i feel as though the 4th one is now starting to wear off. For me they did not make a big differene to the size of my fibrods hence why i am having total abdominal hysterectomy. I would very interested to know on how you get on and give you any advice and support .

      Hi Nicola

Thanks so much, I will let you know how I get on with the Zoladex. I'm happy to hear that the side effects are easing off now. My consultant has requested that I take the drug for 3 months but if they don't get much shrinkage in that time I may be on it for longer. It seems that some women get a significant decrease where as others get very little in the first 3 months. I'd be really interested to know if you get any further reduction in your fibroids. Fibroids really are quite a nasty condition that needs much more research. They've been the bane of my life for so many years. I'll be in touch when I've started on the Zoladex. Wishing you a lovely weekend. ✨😋✨

Hi Angela, I also had 2 months Zoladex treatment prior to op ( supposed to have 3 but op date was changed) luckily it had sufficiently shrank everything so I could have lap assisted vag op. First month was the worst, headaches, bad bleed, bit of hair loss, crankiness, hot flushes, but I agree with Nicola that it's unpleasant! Hoping it works for you too! Xo

Hi Debbie. Thanks so much for your reply. I am dreading the Zoladex but I'll just have to pull my socks up and get on with it. Really pleased to hear that everything went well with you. To be honest I'd prefer to have a myomectomy over a hysterectomy but I'll have to wait and see if that's possible. I'll definately whining to you all about my side effects of the Zoladex when I start them next Friday. Have a great day !! Xxx

Hi Angela, sounds very sensible at your young age to travel the least invasive path. I only decided after questioning everything that I'd have hysterectomy, any op is a worry. Good luck Friday, thinking of you xo

Hi Nicola. I hope this message finds you well. I'm just sending you a quick message to let you know I've started my injections. My consultant prescribed Prostap which is the same as Zoladex but another brand. I had a 3 month injection. Nothing to report as yet but very early days. I am pleased to have begun the course so I can get to end. I am interested to know where you are up to with everything and how you are feeling. x

l hope this email finds you well. I'm just letting you know I started my injections last Thursday. I've been given a 3 month injection of Prostap which is the same as Zoladex. Glad to have started the course as I know my journey to the end goal has begun. I just hope they shrink my huge fibroids and uterus.

    Hi Nicola and everyone,

I haven't been here for a little while, I have been really ill with the fibroids, pain, backache, masses of bloodclots, no sleep etc, etc..., last period was 18 days with major flooding. Most embarrassing to have to leave work because I been through two changes of clothes!

I had my scan recently which showed futher growth in the larger faibroids, but the biggest problem is they have hugely multiplied. The good news is that I started on Zoladex 29th January, I will be on it for 6 months then in for a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I just have to get my weight down too during this 6 months. I hope I am ok with the Zoladex, other than headaches, most women on here seem to be fairly ok. I have started taking Wild Yam Root, which is supposed to help with menopausal symptoms.

Even though I have fibroids I haven't had any severe symptoms just heavy periods.I have been in a bit of discomfort but I also have a hernia aswell.I am on Zoladex for 3 months but I thought that was the maximum time you should be on them because of damage to your bones.I am 3 weeks into my first injection.I just want to get the operation over with.

I think it depends on a number of things, probably age, but they did tell me that I cannot be on it any longer than 6 months and have to have the op, before the end of the 7th month. I totally get you with regard to the operation!

      Hi Karen

Sorry to hear you have not been well. I really hope the Zoladex makes things easier. Now my injections have finished and the side effects have subsided I am  feeling well, just hoping I wont have a bleed before my op on 9th April.

Take care and let me know how things are going x

      Hi Karen

sorry to hear how awful you've been feeling. Hope things are easing up a bit after your injection.I hope  you are keeping up with iron tablets or/& dark green veg. I think you can take Zoladex for 3-6months. I've read 6 months  is maximum. I am preparing to start taking Zoladex soon. I got some sage tea and sage tablets from my herbalist. They apparently help with hot flushes. It has rave reviews. I think the most important thing all we women can do is to treat ourselves really well. Fibroids isn't approached like an illness but any sufferer will know that it is a debilitating and sometimes dangerous illness. Wishing you well

I will keep my fingers crossed for you Nicola! In spite of any possible Zoladex symptoms and my current ones, I do feel very positive because at last I know there is an end in sight x

      Thank you Angela,

I might try the sage, I will see how I get on with the Yam Root first, it appears popular. I have to confess I am erratic with the iron tablets because of the yucky side effect....I'm not saying any more than that! lol. But you know what I'm talking about :-)

As I said to Nicola, in spite of everything I am feeling positive, so I'm hanging on to that at the moment. x
