Vertigo symptoms?

My GP recommended me this site because she diagnosed me with vertigo, so I wanted to see if other people have these symptoms as well.

It started for me at the beginning of March. It was just snap bang dizziness in front of the computer screen. Then it spread out to other things, and now that I'm taking meds (Prochlorperazine), the dizziness in my head is more or less gone.

However.

My body weirdly feels dizzy when my head doesn't? E.g. I'll move my hands and they move correctly, but I think they're going further than they really are or not far enough, and my arms just feel really awkward even though they move to my commands. I always (ALWAYS) have a falling feeling, like I'm about to sink or drop, but I don't. It got really bad once at the GP's, my back felt like it would snap forwards and I would go down, but I didn't. I still feel like I'm swerving when I walk, but I know loss of balance is pretty standard for vertigo. I've never had dizziness (it's a floaty, boat swaying dizziness) until now, and am really distressed by it because it's impeding on my work.

I don't drink alcohol/ coffee or smoke, but I do drink a lot of tea. I cut down my tea now, and am just drinking water (a bit boring).

Ugh! I've been feeling like this for over a year now & I'm going crazy! It sucks! I feel like my brain is going to rattle out of my head. I'm 35, have active kids, currently expecting another & feel like poo 95% of the time. My dr wouldn't run tests, looked in my ears, didn't see anything but said I have vertigo. Mine also causes anxiety because I worry I could have a brain tumor or something and its going to be too late by the time they find it. I'm Just so tired of feeling dizzy, I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. Please let me know if there is a cure for this! My ears ring a lot too. Miserable.

Your GP cannot dismiss you with this ,diagnosis, of Veritgo, because vertigo is not a condition, it is a description for symptoms of various reasons of unbalance, dizziness etc, ie  BPPV, or one of the many Vestibular problems. ,Unless your GP,is an ENT,specialist and has done even some basic balance tests on you, or the Epley Maneuver, then he is not qualified to make this diagnosis.  You cannot see the reason for your problems with a cursory look in your ears, the most he would see is damage to your eardrum.  So, do you have the choice of a different GP in your practice, (if you are in UK,mthat is as Don,t know about other countries), if so go in again request a referral to an ENT. They aren,t necessarily the best, but at least it will get you started onto people who know more than your GP!!!

    Hi

I have had mine for 4 years now, at the moment I have bad ringing in my ears and that is when I feel dizzy and my ears feel blocked. It is awful but I think you do start to live with it more. I can relate to it impeding on your job, I am a full time General manager and there are some days when I feel so ill I just want to go home, I just try and push through it otherwise I would give up my life. I have the Prochlorperazine tablets but i only take them when I really have to as the doctor said to be carful as they can end up giving you a permanent infliction i suppose like a twitch or something?? This site is great though its comforting to hear other people bacuse I had convinced myslef there must be something really serious wrong with me so its nice to hear I am not alone! Any tips would be great, one thing I would say is that mine is worse when I am tired so try and take vitamins (B) and get plenty of sleep

I heard a nurse tell an elderly lady to hold her head up when she gets dizzy.  I try to remember to do that.  My dizziness came from a fall and hitting my head really hard on a concrete floor.  But symptoms are similar.  smile

    Hello

I was diagnosed with Labyrinthities last Dec.

I have had good months but just this month it started to get really bad.

I started to get very hot and really dizzy with nausea and a lot if spinning. After my appointment yesterday with my ENT I now have Menierer.

I have a long history of sinus infections so I guess that is what caused damage to my inner ears. I also have very loud ringing in my right ear which drives me crazy but thank God it hasn't affected my hearing.

    Hope you feel better. 🌻

    Hello,

I have been dealing with this for just over three years. I first got a dizzy spell when my husband and I were out for dinner. It was off and on for a couple days but then it went away. Six months later when we were on vacation I was having a coffee and watching tv on the sofa and had a vertigo attack, the room was spinning and I had to lie down for two days. Since then I've developed severe anxiety and have been suffering from panic attacks. The panic attacks come out of the blue when I am completely relaxed but the dizziness comes and goes. I can go weeks feeling fine and then I go days feeling dizzy and off balance. I have trouble in malls, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. My doctor says I just have anxiety and to relax. She prescribed me escitalopram but I haven't taken it yet because I've been on and off anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds for years and nothing seems to work. I'm also nervous to take them as my husband works at camp so I am alone for weeks at a time. It is very distressing and debilitating but I take comfort in finding this post and knowing I am not the only one suffering.

Hi Sarah, I'm very sorry to hear you have been struggling! I have always had dizzy attacks since as young as I remember which in turn has now since the age of 16 given me severe anxiety, I am a hard worker and love my trade but have lost numerous jobs due to not being able to get out of bed, some or most days I do t want to face these feelings, I've just been out on 50mg sertreline and at first really helped but now are having the opposite effect :-( I think you should try certain medication to try and control your anxiety as I've found if my anxiety is good then my dizziness fades away too. Hope this helps and hope you feel better very soon xx

      Thanks, Aaron!

I think I a going to start taking it. I've read a few posts on here by other people who take it and said it has helped them quite a bit. I'm glad that you have found some relief. I'm very lucky that I work at home so I can pick and choose my hours based on how I am feeling. I know that if I didn't have this luxury I would have lost many jobs by now too because the dizziness just makes it impossible to complete daily tasks. Thank you for reaching out, it makes me feel a lot better!

This strange sensation is very aggravating to my already existent anxiety disorder, so I understand the worry. I hope you're coping well.
