Vestibular Neuritis for 3 months. Does anyone share these residual symptoms?
Posted , 18 users are following.
Diagnosed with VN (42% hypofunction in my right ear on the caloric exam). Three months into the arduous process, I've started VRT with some nice results.
Symtoms wax and wane and many come and go throughout the day. Brain fatigue is still very common and I realize it can take time to really improve and get better.
Some of the symptoms include:
1: Feeling funny when a car stops. This can happen even when continually stopping in traffic. This is a big one for me. So weird.
2. Unsteadiness on anything that is not a solid surface.
3. Brain fatigue after reading for too long, watching a film, or having a long conversation while tilting my head.
4. A little woozy after exercise.
5. Random dizziness / brain fatigue at moments throughout the day.
Do any of you share these symptoms?
Also, how has VRT gone for all of you?
Thanks in advance!

So glad to hear good news! I'm calling the ENT this week to make a follow up appointment. I want to be prepared when I go though, since my doc said "there was nothing I could do in the meantime." How were you officially diagnosed with VN? What are some tests I can ask her to order before I arrive? It's a 45 minute drive for me and since driving is so difficult, I'd rather her have everything she needs when I go back. Thank you!

For me, the caloric was used to show the damage to my right ear. Hope this helps! Those are the basics.

Hi Kim! So sorry about the damage. Being in the throes of VN is no fun. Keep on pushing through the therapy; along with time, it is the most predictive method for a faster recovery.
I began with a 42% weakness so you're in better shape already!
Apart from the occasional minor symptom, I am back to normal!
I still to 10 min of VRT every day before bed. It's a habit.
Warm wishes,
Andy

Yes had all the tests. Left ear 33%. VRT wasn't working so I was sent for more testing then to neurotologist. That's when they found out it was menieres.

I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread, I know it 4 months old, but you really confirmed things for me.
I was diagnosed with labyrinthitis a few weeks ago, which I've learned is different from VN.
I had sore ear, got vertigo, got put on steroids a few days later. Diagnosed in ER as neurosensory hearing loss nyd, then lab. I believe my hearing just felt muffled though, they tested with tuning forks. I just couldn't follow it.
Saw the ENT a few days later, vertigo had resolved. He pronounced me cured, said its not my ear, and go see my family md.
Symptoms:
1. Pressure in left ear
2. Vertigo/spinning/falling initially, then recurred this week
3. No nystagmus at exam, just twitching eyes initially
4. 2nd week horrible pressure in the left side of my head, and left sinus. I have no cold or anything. But I did have something viral 2 weeks before
5. Now my eyes are funny. Vertigo still comes and goes as of 2 days ago. Everything seems too bright, too loud, too busy.
I do believe I have VN. I never actually had hearing loss. Hearing test is fine. It was actually too loud, so I asked them to turn it down. I'm waiting see my doc, but I'll take all your wonderful advice and just keep going! I know it's early for me. I was so worried that this doesn't go away. So thank you! My hope.
6. Balance is off at times.

Hi, well just to let you know that things are still improving
?Back at work now full time and driving myself to work after recieving lifts from wonderful people. I do wonder though how many think that this condition surely can't go on this long? But as we all know, it can and does! Still have occasional dizziness along with nystagmus and off balance but feel so much better with the exercise classes and walking daily . However, I did finally have an MRI in April and nothing found for VN but they did find that at some point i've had a stroke! So shocked to say the least. So now i'm on medication but my VN they don't seem bothered about . So i'm hoping that one day I will be free from VN completely as I continue to make progress. It does get easier as you know.

Hi and thank you!
I'm definitely better than I was, I think this is week 17 for me. Still get some headaches, and they are definitely related to the other symptoms. I get unsteady at times. But pushing through that as well as the VRT helps. I read above that someone is in week 9. The headaches are still bad then, don't give up hope! They are not as often.
I had all the same symptoms as everyone else, but during week 3, finally developed shingles in both ears and both sides of my tongue. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Which inflames your cranial nerves. I had 4 inflamed on the left and 3 in the right. Including the vestibular nerve. I still have some mild facial paralysis.
Just so everyone knows, it's often the Zoster virus that causes VN. Even if there is no shingles rash. I found that in my research. Found my own diagnosis! Confirmed by 2 MDs of course.
Keep going everyone, it's so horrible, I know.

Hi .. hope u doing well now ...I'm having VN since 7 weeks .. now it's better than before ..but there are some days that I feel 90% good and some days just 50 % not as first time having it ... but still doesn't go away ...
I feel bad after driving ...while driving I'm OK ...but after I feel worse ...
And the thing is some days u feel you are going to feel 100% fully recovered but then days more u feel 50% only ( again not same as before but still 50 %
Is that a common for you

Thanks for that info and I didn't know about the Zoster virus. That gives me something concrete to research. I have had this V N for 6 months and enthusiastic to discover better coping strategies and eradicate it.
