Vitamin D deficiency success stories

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.
How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.
I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.
Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.
Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.
Thank you and God bless!

Hello just wanted to update everyone that i was communicating with on here in the past. I am 5 months in on this vitamin d deficiency journey and have been feeling muchh better than i have in a few years. BUT, I can tell that my body still has some healing left to do.... maybe a couple more months or so until i am 100%. I feel that my body is at about 70% into the healing process at the moment. I still have bad days here and there just want to make that clear..... But fortunately, they are not nearly as bad as they were before. I am so happy to be able to relay this message to you guys in hopes that i can give you hope! Vitamin D3 7,000 is what i have stayed on the entire time, along with magnesium glycinate 400mg and vitamin k-2. This may sound crazy to some of you but i spoke with a vitamin d specialist that informed me awhile back that you can take up to 10,000 IU a day for as long as you want AS LONG as your blood levels do not raise above 150 ng/ml. Doctors will tell you otherwise... but doctors also do not know much about vitamin d and will diagnose you with a list of other things before even looking into vitamin d levels in hopes of making as much money as they can with a myriad of other diagnoses and prescriptions. Do your research, speak to the right people, you will find this all to be true. A different doctor i follow on youtube is awesome and always is honest and tells the truth..... his name is DrBerryMD, follow him... he talks a lot about vitamin d and tons of other thing and is not trying to sell the public anything... check him out.
Hope you all the best of luck and a speady recovery. Take care and talk soon.

I also would like to note that there was a 2 month period in the beginning where i was on 10,000 IU and then went down to 7,000 IU.

It makes me so happy to hear this Gina! I hate knowing other people are going through this because it really sucks but at the same time I'm glad I found people I can relate to. Please keep us posted. I don't see a lot of success stories and I'm hoping it is because people healed and just forget about it and continue with their daily lives. One thing I know for sure, this experience has changed me so much as a person. I will take care of my mind and body more than I used to. Glad you're feeling better.

Hey Vicky.. Yes I was suffering terrible anxiety with the deficiency and fortunately has gotten A LOT better. This was one of the symptoms that I was hoping to improve the most, as it can be debilitating on its own. I feel that it has diminished enough to consider very tolerable... I am not sure if my anxiety has much more room for improvement, if so, that's even better, I'll take it!! I also did not note in my story above about my pain level... It has completely diminished other than some days here and there l get a minor aching in the middle of my back. This might be due to me sitting and doing schoolwork all day on a computer though. But, if it does diminish all the way as well then awesome! As for depression... I am doing great! I feel as if it is sort of strange getting back into the swing of things more social wise. I lost contact with so many friends and have recently started to get out more. It is taking some time getting used to,which I never thought id hear myself say cuz I always was a social person, but I'm sure I'll get there. I also have done yoga since starting this journey, which of course was very light yoga starting while I was really sick. It has helped me so much throughout this I believe it is what has helped strengthen me. I know it seems practically impossible to do feeling so awful, but if you can suffer through it for At least 20 minutes 3 to 4 times a week you will thank yourself big time, I promise, it's very rewarding in so many ways. One of the biggest things it has helped me with is that super stiff/achy feeling you get after waking up that doesn't seem to go away some days..... Yoga practically erases that, try it out, yoy won't regret it and it won't hurt to try. I
Sending positive vibes and healing your way.
Peace, love, and strength!
Talk soon.

Hi there,
I'm so glad you're starting to feel better, Gina. It's only gonna get better from there!
With regards to vitamin D's effects on mood. There has been a lot of research coming up lately on vitamin D's effects on mood and most studies concluded that vitamin D deficiency does play a role in mood disorders.
What they found was quite interesting; they found that Vitamin D Hormone (basically the activated form of vitamin D) has an effect on a certain gene in our brains called tryptophan hydroxolase. Now what this gene does is it takes the amino acid tryptophan you get from food, and it converts it into a hormone/neurotransmitter called Serotonin. In case you haven't heard of Serotonin before, Serotonin is sometimes known as the happy chemical, because it appears to play an important role in regulating mood, and low levels of serotonin in the brain have been associated with depression. It regulates a broad range of cognitive functions and behaviors. It regulates social behavior, impulse control, decision making, anxiety, memory, impulse aggression, so-called “sensory gating,” and more.. Basically when you have sufficient supply of vitamin D, this vitamin D goes and connects/binds with this gene (tryptophan hydroxolase) and it activates it and then this gene should start to synthesize more serotonin, and more serotonin=balanced and good mood. So these studies suggest that vitamin D may be important to producing serotonin in the brain from tryptophan.
Not just that, they also found that Vitamin D Receptors exist everywhere in the human body, including the brain. So don't take this deficiency very lightly.
If anyone of you is interested in these studies, please pm me for references.
Hope y'all start feeling better. Keep calm and smile!

Hey Gina,
Yoga is definitely helpful, I need to start doing it again but ever since I increased my dose my pain came back. Do you mind me asking, where was your pain? and what kind of pain was it? It's so hard to stay positive sometimes!

hi buddy, is it dangerious as some have suggested to take vitamin d without magnesium ? i dont want to mess myself up but want to slowly heal from the deficency

Hey there, I wouldn't call it dangerous but magnesium is one of the co-factors of vitamin D. Magnesium is needed for the metabolism of vitamin D, that is the different stages that vitamin D goes through in the body until it gets activated. That process needs magnesium. Some experts mentioned that prolonged use of vitamin D has the potential to deplete body stores of magnesium, and this will then manifest itself in the form of magnesium deficiency symptoms from muscle cramps to mood imbalances and more. So it's probably a good idea to ensure that you're getting adequate amounts of magnesium when you're supplementing with vitamin D. Hope this helps.

That is awesome to hear! Even though you are already well, thank you for taking the time to check up on us over here. Sorry for the late reply, I have been very sick with the flu and it took forever to get over. Anyway, I actually am going to school to be a veterinary technician and with the anatomy and physiology class i took i learned a little bit about what you are talking about. Not NEARLY as much, or too far in depth with it, though, I would love to learn more about it as it helps me to understand myself and my body more. I am doing much better than I was but still have some crummy days unfortunately. Just out of curious, how much vitamin d are you still taking? and do you take the same amount through the winter months? Hope all is well with you on your end by the way.......

So sorry for the late reply! I have been very sick with the flu and it took me awhile to get better. the flu that is going around this year is AWFUL! hope all of you have dodged it because it is sending many people to the hospital. Anyway, as for where my pain was.... i had terrible lower and middle back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and some hip pain. Fortunately, all have improved immensely are no where near as painful as they were. Yes yoga helps, i know it seems literally impossible to get through because of the pain.... but only try doing light yoga and only the kind that is more geared toward stretching your body if thats all you can do. The boho beautiful videos i use are only 20 minutes long on youtube and i only push myself as far as my body can handle it. If you can only do half that time, thats ok! If you can only extend certain limbs to a certain amount, thats ok too! Any progress is progress and it truly does take that stiff feeling out of your body. How are feeling by the way? are you doing any better?
Hope you are feeling even the slightest bit better.... and hope to hear from you soon,
Gina 😃
