Vitamin D deficiency success stories

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.
How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.
I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.
Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.
Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.
Thank you and God bless!

Hi guys Shark here, I read every single comment lol! Anyway here is my story and I’ll keep it short, since 2012 on and off I have felt a mysterious illness, I have sent myself crazy thinking it could be anything from mold toxicity to sibo to gluten intolerance to WiFi sickness, yes it sent me crazy searching for an answer, the pin in my body and the symptoms were 100 percent made worse by NOT KNOWING, and people thinking I just had anxiety, while it has caused me worries and stress I am NOT an anxious person but was forced to be somewhat anxious by not being believed and told by DRs I am “just anxious and I should go away and stop wasting their time” I have had so many blood tests and I’m “healthy” it’s “all in my head” I knew it wasn’t.....so for years I have on and off felt unwell and just learned to accept and live with it, my symptoms include, weird feeling legs, as if they are spongy and slightly tingly or spatially when walking, brain fog, extreme right shoulder pain!!! Tense muscles, feelings in the nerves, fatigue to the point that I can’t get out of bed except using my powerful mind I get up anyway and soldier on, and loads of weird little symptoms like stomach booting, feeling sick and raw in my gut and loss of other little things but these have all been on and off which I’m thankful for, in July I went to get more tests as I was in one of my not feeling well stages and this time asked them for a vitamin d test, I was told I wouldn’t have a deficiency but I demanded they test it, once again all my bloods are fine but this time it shows that I do in fact have a Vitamin D Deficiency, my level was 18! They prescribed 50k per week slow release, but I decided to take 3000iu and some K2 with each dose, anyway for the first time in years my pain in my shoulder is completely gone, i actually thought it was a town rotar cuff, I couldn’t hold my arm above my head, it’s healed and complete better within 3 weeks of taking the vitamin D, however I have some questions and statements, I have some concerns. The vitamin D even at 3000iu makes me feel malaise, that’s the only way I can describe it, this was a symptom I was getting before taking it on and off but with other supplements so not sure if it’s 100 percent the vit d but I’m reasonably sure, it defiantly makes me feel something when I take it and it’s not nice, what is this ? And this leads me into my next question and problem, I can’t tolerate Magnesium, no matter what type or dose within a few days it like it fires up my nervous system and makes me all tingly and upon stopping I get hit with brick wall fatigue, what is this and why does magnesium make me feel weird ? Last tome my left body was tingling! Now the question regarding this, some comments on here lead me to think that continuing to supplement vit d will cause other deficiencies and make me Worse ? I may be called shark but this worries me what should I do ? And does it actually deplete magnesium or just need it to be fully absorbed etc, 1 why does magnesium make me feel weird nervy and fatigued when stopping, 2 do I absolutely have to take Magnesium with Vit D. 3 why does Vit D make me feel malaise ? And lastly some positive words! We may feel unwell but we are alive, feeling unwell is better than feeling nothing, we fee alive! Nothing bad lasts forever and we will all fee better one day! Peace and love to you all X

Hi shark , how is your anxiety now ? The best i can suggest will help you in balancing out everything to work right . Along with your VD intake drink a couple of cups Pedialyte . If you are a larger man drink 3 cups a day !

Hello,
I think it affects everyone so differently but from what I have read on the internet, vitamin D needs sufficient magnesium in order to activate it but I encourage you to research more on it. I’m no expert but I believe a lot of people don’t get enough magnesium in their diet to begin with so if you take higher doses of vitamin D then I would imagine it uses up the little magnesium we have in our body which probably takes it away from where it’s supposed to be more abundant? Maybe that is why you experience symptoms I don’t know lol. I swear I'm using some logic behind my comments lol. I’ve heard a lot of people who’s symptoms get worse while taking vitamin D. When I would take the 50k/week, the day I would take it and probably 4 days after I felt so terrible I was pretty much bed bound! But the last few days of the week before taking it again I started noticing an improvement and that would continue on for weeks and slowly I started noticing improvements in all areas I was affected by. Vicious cycle that’s for sure. I’ve been following “the vitamin D protocol” on Facebook and they explain why it hurts more in the beginning and also a lot of people post about their symptoms worsening in the beginning.

Well there are a lot of functions VD is responsible for so even though it doesn't make me feel very well at first, I know I need it and with time my body will heal which sometimes can take quite a few months for symptoms to get better. In my case, I know I have been low for a long time and I have been ignoring subtle symptoms so it will take me a long time to build it back up and repair any damage done. However, even when I feel better I will continue to take it. I read somewhere that when your VD receptors are disrupted you must continue to at least maintain your level with supplements. I hope you feel better!

Good morning, I'm new to this thread and I have recently been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. I have most of the symptoms of pain in my left ribcage and my blood pressure goes up too. I have had my heart checked and was cleared for heart issues. Does anyone also experience having blood pressure to go up with this deficiency? If so, did it ever go lower after supplementation? My anxiety is also through the roof.

Yes blood pressure rises up and down , heart palpitations , every symptom you can think of this deficiency causes ! Even stomach issues , like gastritis and IBS ! But to answer your question , yes the blood pressure stabilizes when the levels rise to a more normal range .... What were your levels ? Mine was 19

Thank you! I guess I just have to be patient. I always think that once I take supplements, all the symptoms should go away, but from what I'm reading, it takes a while to heal.

Yes it does , it is a slow process , but the symptoms do ease some while replenishing ..

Hi J.
Sorry you have become a victim of this deficiency. It has been debilitating for me to say the least. Have you started supplementing? I was at a level 16 in July. If you have a Facebook there is a group called "vitamin d protocol" and it has been helpful in reassuring that I will be okay.

i just started supplementing this past Saturday.

What are you levels J4 ? I wish it were a fast fix but unfortunately its not .. My levels are 19 and it has been torture . Im on my 5th month , my symptoms are getting easier but im still working on them .. Replenishing the D takes time and it will also take time to rebuild your body from the deficiency ,yet the symptoms do get easier in the 1/2 months .... What are your symptoms?

Are you taking D2 or D3? and how many IU's?

D3, 10000 iu everyday for a month and im supposed to go down to 5000 after a month. I do feel that my heart beats a little faster when I take it so Im not sure why it does that.

You are getting enough calcium, magnesium, and k2 right? You must take these vitamins too from what I have read. My heart does that too. I get arrhythmias. It's a scary feeling!

My magnesium from blood work was good so not sure if Im supposed to be supplementing. i need to do the calcium and the k2 I believe its on V8 and I drink this. Do you take magnesium and K2? If so, did the arrhythmias subside?

I still get them but not as much. I have have read that checking magnesium in the blood is not accurate. A person can still be depleted and their labs come back fine because blood magnesium level only measures 1-2% of your TOTAL magnesium and if you are taking high doses of vitamin D it depletes your magnesium more even if blood is normal. TBH I have not taken magnesium so I should be the last person recommending this but I have increased my magnesium through food. I just bought a supplement and will be trying it out tonight but just a little bit. I also take magnesium salt baths and it helps my pain. I have been taking k2 though. The first 6-8 weeks of taking vitamin D I don't even count that really because all I was doing was bringing my level high enough for my body to start repairing itself. I encourage you to join the vitamin d protocol on Facebook (I had to create a FB just for this). A lot of people also post questions and stories and there are over 14k members. They are really helpful!

Hey everyone,
all of these replies have been so comforting. i truly thought i was going crazy. for me it all started on november 8th at the dentist-had an infected wisdom tooth-got put on augmentin-then got an infected molar-got put on clyndamyacin-then had to get the other 3 wisdom teeth pulled-back on amoxicillin-so on and off for a month i was on antibiotics-id say after the augmentin i started feeling weird aches in my joints-then my left thumb and right index finger knuckle closest to the fingernail-since then i have had terrible anxiety/depression/burning in feet/random pains in hands and arms/elbows/questioning everything from my face to any new mark on my body-did my face used to be this red-i went to the doctor-got bloodwork done-lipids good-comp metabolic panel good-thyroid perfect--my normal doctor wasnt available and the floating doctor i saw immediately suggested i be put on zoloft-i held off on doing that-i had an appointment with my normal doctor on dec 24th-she immediately said lets check vitamin D-it came back a few days later on my chart-15.1 is my level--i am 32 years old, quit cigarettes and weed back on november 8th also (i know-perfect storm for anxiety etc) doc prescribed 50,000 IU a week-one pill per week-but nothing with K2/MK7 and Magnesium. I have been able to sleep okay-i actually think it helps my anxiety the most just knowing this is indeed a real thing with symptoms. i see her again on the 30th-it seems like it can range from a few months to a year to start feeling normal. even though i have the random aches and pains i have still been able to do an hour of cardio per day and funny enough-i feel my symptoms the least while i am doing that. any advice you can provide would be helpful. lucky to have my doc be so tuned in to vitamin d. sounds like a lot of you got the run around and it took a long time to get here.

While vitamin d can obviously cause an array of really bad symptoms, it sounds like you have knocked your gut bacteria while taking antibiotics which also causes lots of symptoms!

yeah i have been taking a 30 day probiotic and eating foods good for gut health as well. itll take time for wverything to level out but 15 for vitamin d is pretty low. once that gets sorted and back towards 60-70 ill feel a lot better.

Hi!!
Mine started out after a UTI and I was on antibioitics too. A few days after taking the antibiotics I started having crazy symptoms including anxiety and panic attacks which was crazy because I've never had anxiety before. Pains all over my back, it made me super depressed. You most likely may have already been pretty low in VD and the infection and the antibiotics you were on threw everything off! VD is not just for muscle and bone health. There are also studies that show it has a lot to do with your immune system and keeping infections away which may explain why I got a UTI as I NEVER get them. So I'm sure VDD has a domino effect on other vitamins which may explain all the different symptoms one can experience. You are so lucky you caught it on time! It took me 4-5 months of several doctor and ER visits to figure this out and 99% of the time I was dismissed as having anxiety or being depressed.

i saw a floating doctor my first visit since my doctor disnt have any appointments available and i knew i wanted to check comprehensive metabolic panel, lipids, thyroid, etc. that doctor said it is just anxiety and it can show itself in many different ways and prescribed me zoloft-my follow up to the blood work was a week later with my actual doctor who knows i do not want any anti anxiety medication and she immediately said lets check vitamin D next-boom-here we are-for those of you reading here-the 50,000 IU once a week is what they prescribed-did you guys take that with 5,000 IU per day? Did your doctors also suggest magneisum and mk7 or is that like something that a lot of you have found success with?
last time i took magnesium i just pooped the darkest poops of my life-which ones are easiest to digest? ive been eating a lot of foods rich in magnesium like spinach and black beans but i want to support the vitamin d absorption the best i can. any insight is appreciated

Thats awesome it sounds like you have a great doctor. I am in the process of switching. Research shows D3 is better absorbed than D2. At first, I was prescribed D2 50k once per week. I took that for 8 weeks and my level went up to 55 ng/ml from 16. I asked my rheumatologist about other "cofactors" and all she said was to take a mulivitamin which made me realize I need to do my own research on this. I would say do your research and do what works best for you. Currently I am taking 9k/day with k2 and i get most of my magnesium through diet but when I don't I will take a magnesium glycinate supplement 200mg and I also take epsom salt baths 1-2 times a week. This does not upset my stomach. My level is at 76 ng/ml now and not to make you lose hope but I still don't feel the best but it's one of those things you have to be persistent in. Don't get discouraged if your pain increases at one point. It seems like thats pretty common.

yeah it seems like everyone has their own time table. so far i do feel better overall. still stupid aches and pains but let me ask-what are you eating to get your magnesium? my apartment only has a shower so id really like to take an epsom salt bath but have no way to do it.
what brand of k2? foods for magnesium?
i dont know if you have tried CBD but that is another thing i have recently started taking. Charlottes Web is a solid brand for anyone in a non legal state. may help with some of your ailments. may i ask where youre from and your age?

I felt improvements in the beginning too but three months later I was in a lot of pain again but I have read it happens to a lot of people. For magnesium I eat a lot of almonds and pumpkin seeds. I also rat a lot of spinach so I end up eating a good 400mgs a day through food not counting what I get throughout the day from other foods. The vitamin D I am taking is from sports research but I'm sure you can find other good ones. I am also take vitamin d drops I forgot what brand but those are good too. I tried CBD oil in the summer but it really didn't do much for me. Could have been the brand but I gave up on that. I am from Arizona and am 28 years old.

I have a doubt about vitamin D suplemmentation which is:
I was 13ng and my doctor is aiming to 50ng, my question is what should I expect when I get to 50ng.
1 - When my body hit 50ng in the blood should I feel healed? Should I be okay? My body will already have done everything he should with the new amount of vitamin D(50ng.)?
2 - Or my body will start to work the things that are messed(because of the missing vitami)n only in the precising day it hit 50ng or at least a decent amount?
I know each body each body, but, what should I expect? Number 1 or number 2?
