Vitamin D deficiency success stories

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.
How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.
I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.
Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.
Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.
Thank you and God bless!

I have a doubt about vitamin D suplemmentation which is:
I was 13ng and my doctor is aiming to 50ng, my question is what should I expect when I get to 50ng.
1 - When my body hit 50ng in the blood should I feel healed? Should I be okay? My body will already have done everything he should with the new amount of vitamin D(50ng.)?
2 - Or my body will start to work the things that are messed(because of the missing vitami)n only in the precising day it hit 50ng or at least a decent amount?
I know each body each body, but, what should I expect? Number 1 or number 2?

Hi vicky, good to know first it has to be in a optimal level to the body start to correct itself, give me great hopes in my problems be mostly vitamin D.
My symptoms were tiredness, weakness, weak teeth, and I was just living normally, didnt paid much attention, tought it was because Im sedentary, but in one fine day I had chest pains and terrible, really terrible sleeping, terrible headaches at night and went to some doctors and they checked my vitamin D levels and found out to be 13ng, they told me its an awful result..
After had some injections with a doctor I found in a city near mine
I've got better with my teeth, they are normal now, my weakness improved slightly(still weak in my muscles), my sleep improved a lot, my chest pains almost disappeared although I still have them sometimes.
And in the middle of the afternoon I feel very tired, like my body and head are tired, its weird because I feel it in my head too and can't defined what it is, but its uncomfortable..
But in the other section I've told you guys it was 600,000ui, but was just talking to my family and we're not sure if it is 600,000 ui or 300,000 ui.. Now only when I came back to my doctor in middle january to ask him... 😦 if you search on the internet you will find somethings about this kind of shots..

Hi jesse,
all of your symptoms are the same as mine and many others on this forum. You will get to feeling better just give your body some time. Think about it this way...... every single cell in your body has a vitamin D receptor.... in that case, your body has A LOT of repairing to do, especially in the areas that have been damaged the most. I am in my 6th month of vitamin d deficiency recovery and am at the point where most of the time i feel great, i mean even better than i have felt in 3 or 4 years. I still have some crummy days dont get me wrong, but i can feel that my body and mind are on the right path. You will get there, do not give up hope! I could not even get out of bed when i was at my worst and had terrible depression to the point that i no longer wanted to be here. I am now slowly starting to feel happier and happier throughout the entire day. Quick question for you...... what month are you in after finding out you are deficient? And are you also taking the magnesium glycinate and vitamin k2 mk7??

Goodmorning!
I hope everyone is doing well - my story is very similar to everyone here but have health anxiety scares (like ALS or MS)
Has anyone in this forum experienced this? I am hoping Vitamin D is the culprit but as time goes and symptoms worsens, Im just afraid of misdiagnosis of something that is even more serious

I have pain in my muscles and nerves too. I feel that I also have pain in bones because sometimes it feels deep but I don't have anything to compare bone pain with as I've never experienced it. Also had lots of anxiety and stiffness (still do). Mine also comes in waves. Some days I am able to get out of bed and look decent, some days I am bed bound and in so much pain. I have been taking vitamin D for 6.5 months now and still having most symptoms. My recommendation is to up your dose for sure. I take 8k/day with k2 and sometimes magnesium. As long as you are monitoring your levels regularly and as long as you have ruled out other illnesses you should be fine but I'm no doctor. This is just from my experience. It's taken many people quite a while to recover so just be consistent and hopefully you will see the light of day. On the days my pain is worse it's hard to mentally. But then I have some good days and I try remembering those the most. Hope you feel better!

Hi Taro,
Im sorry to hear your going through all this pain and I hope you have made a fully recovery? I know these posts are from a while ago. I wondered if your still on here and are better now?
I have only just read these discussions and have found out I have Vitamin D deficiency my count was 36. I have been given 500mcg of Vitamin D3 (20,000 IU). I am the same 35 and have never felt this bad ever, I cant work or do normal chores.
My current symptoms:-
lightheaded all day
aches in arms and legs
heavy numb neck & back of head
very weak and fatigued
lost lots of weight
I don't feel hungry forcing myself to eat
did have groin, side and pelvic pain but that has gone - checking with MRI
Checks
full blood count
bone
thyroid
body mass index
MRI - going for spine and pelvis - 18th Feb
I have only just taken my first tablet today and have to one more in a couple of days. (2 per week)
I have a few questions if anyone can help?
Did you lose weight lose appetite?
What should I do if i feel worse after a few weeks as I know this happened to you and many other people after taking Vitamin D supplements?
Can I ask the GP to check my magnesium levels?
After my capsules do i just buy normal over the counter vitamin D tablets?
sorry for all the questions but if anyone can give me advise I would really appreciate this as I feel like I am going crazy and the doctors don't seem to know what's wrong as all my bloods came back clear apart from abnormal Vitamin D.
Thanks Steph

Stephanie,
I am truly sorry you have fallen a victim of this terrible deficiency. 3/01/19 I started having crazy symptoms after being on antibiotics for a UTI. Dizziness, nausea, upper and mid back pain, panic attacks (never had panic attacks before), crazy anxiety, I was short of breath sometimes, headaches, and just overall feeling of being unwell. I was in and out of the ER, my doctors, specialists, had many tests done and did this until July when I went to a rheumatologist and she told me my vitamin d was at 16 ng/ml. I noticed an immediate improvement in my depression, anxiety, and shoulder pain the first week of being on 50k/week of d2. But the shoulder pain would come back and improve spontaneously. My upper back pain started improving after two months but would come and go too. My level went up to 55 in 7 weeks so I decided to reduce my intake to 5k/day OTC of D3. Big mistake. Was not noticing improvements on that. 6 weeks later my level went down to 53. I said screw it! And start taking 8-10k/day. Pains increased at first again but I wasn’t going to give up. Level went up to 76 in another 6 weeks and now I am above 100. I plan to keep myself here for a while until I start feeling better. My days are still unpredictable but I did have a full good week a couple weeks ago. Today I’m in lots of pain again but I do think it’s better than when I first started. I also take k2 and magnesium glycinate. From what I have read it is not worth checking your magnesium in blood. My advice to you is to continue taking it daily and keep monitoring your levels especially if you are taking high doses. Definitely rule other things out in the mean time and don’t give up! Do good research! Join support groups and be patient. That’s what I have found most helpful. Good luck!

Hi,
Thank you for replying. I'm also really sorry to hear you have been going through agony too! Can I ask what specialists you saw and what checks you had? How did you manage for 6 months could you work?
sorry for the many questions!! my brain is foggy and tired!
Previous to my symptoms in December 19 I also had recurring uti's, over last two years (4 per year). How many weeks tablets did you get prescribed? How are you feeling now? I still do not understand the dosages other peeps are on its all new to me. I've been advised just to take two tablets of 20,000 per week. How do you keep updates on your Vit D level? Do you book in blood tests every month or so with the gp? Do you find k2 and magnesium glycinate makes a huge difference?
I keep researching when I feel best usually first thing in morning. This forum has been so helpfull. My gynagologyist thinks i have Endometriosis, when i was rushed into A&E my doctors did bloods and a physical and thinks its fibromyalgia. I have an pelvis and spine MRI on Tuesday so i'm a little scared!
Thank you so much for replying and sharing your story, i feel better for this and i hope you make a full recovery soon! Do you know of people making full recovery's and if they keep taking high VD suppliments?

I had a very long-term tension headache for about two months (never suffered from headaches prior to this) so I saw a neurologist and also an immunologist (allergist). They both tested me for many auto immune diseases and inflammation markers. I also had a cervical and thoracic MRI as well as an EEG and Xrays of my shoulder and back as well as many blood tests. Finally I saw a rheumatologist and she also test for other auto immune diseases as well as some genetic testing which all came back negative except for vitamin D.
I actually got on FMLA so I was able to miss work when I didn't feel well which was most of the time. I also reduced my hours at work and started working from home so I have been extremely lucky as far as work goes...
I never would get UTIs prior to this actually. It was my first UTI in over 7 years and quite honestly I've only had about 3-4 UTIs that I can remember (I'm 29). But this last one that made all my symptoms spiral out of control has been the most intense/strongest one I've ever had. So I assume it's possible the vitamin D deficiency (that I predict I already had) made it more intense b/c VD has a lot to do with your immune system and fighting infections.
So I got D2 50k/week for 3 months. I new nothing about this deficiency at that time so I continued taking it. Slowly I did my research and realized I should be taking D3, magnesium, and K2. I asked my doctor about it and all she said was to take a multivitamin and I should be fine. I finally got my level up to 55ng/ml and I thought I was better so my doctor said to reduce to 5k D3 OTC everyday. I ended being in a lot of pain again this way and after 6 weeks i retested and it went down to 53. I asked my doctor about this but she said to continue with what I was doing so I knew at that point 1) I needed to find a new doctor and 2) I need to take matters into my own hands. No one knows or cares about your body as much as you do so do your research!
Starting mid-November of 2019 I started taking 9-10k of VD/day. My pain worsened at first. Within 6 weeks my vitamin went up to 76. Then I continued and it went up to 105 a couple weeks ago.
I am still having pain but I'm putting a lot of faith into supplementing with VD, K2, Mag, and I also take a VB complex mostly for the B12. I also started physical therapy and walk my dogs when I can and try to eat healthy, organic, and unprocessed foods. Prior to this I have always been athletic and conscious of my diet. However I think this may have lead to this deficiency as it's been about 10 years of me constantly avoiding the sun and slathering sun screen on every inch of my body that was exposed to the sun. I haven't drank regular milk since I was little. In fact, my m would make home-made almond, cashew, and soy milk since I could remember. For a while, I would buy store bought almond milk which as VD and calcium fortified but then I started making my own too and I also reduced cheese from my diet. Not only was I not getting VD but I was also not eating enough calcium and probably other vitamins as I grew up vegetarian too. Big lesson learned for me! Hope this helps!

I am so glad I stumbled upon this forum, I have been through hell and back over the last 2 years and still struggling.
It all started off with what GPs are calling a panic attack in Jan 2018 a sudden electrifying burning feeling throughout my body followed by constant low mood and feeling depressed.
GPs straight away put me on antidepressants! citalopram and then sertraline, which sent me haywire.
Then they found I was vitamin D deficient, started off with HUX D3 20,000 IU once a week, along with all the above I ended up with chronic diarrhoea for 4-6 months and lost 25KG of weight.
Upon investigation they found a growth in my appendix which was not an infection and they thought it was a NET tumour! potentially cancerous... this sent my anxiety levels through the roof, had surgery to remove the growth and the wait for the reports was nerve racking! but thanks to God it was all negative and I was discharged.
However I have never been the same, I have had head pressure, anxiety, panic attack, sleeping disorders, numbness jelly legs, dizziness, pain, fatigue, headaches, balance issues, internal tremor, shakiness and tinnitus. I think this all started after I took HUX D3!!!!
I have since had 3 brain scans, 2 CT scans, 1 PET DOTATE scan of the whole body, several X-rays and over 40 plus blood tests, I have seen a Neuro-endocronolgist professor, Gastroentrologist professor, ENT consultant and a Neurologist. All my tests came back normal apart from one, Vitamin D, which was at 25!
currently what is stopping from getting on with my day is the head pressure, dizziness and tightness around my head, I work in IT and sit in front of a screen throughout my day and absolutely love my career however the symptoms are debilitating and depressing.
I have had weeks in the middle where I felt good and completely normal but its short lived.
@taro93814 and everyone with similar symptoms have you fully recovered from the dizziness and head pressure? what regime did you follow?
I would be extremely grateful if someone has a cure for all of this, I am sick of living like this and its effecting my family relations, I have two kids 5 and 2 and rarely spend time with them as my symptoms over take the happy moments.
I regret that time is passing away very quickly and I will miss not being able to enjoy the time when they were young 😦 I spend nights crying and even have tears writing this as I miss the time that I had before all of this started. I am 34 years old and still optimistic that there is cure somewhere out there and I am not going haywire as my GP thinks.
I look forward to your replies.
Kind regards,
8umblebee

I also had head pressure and a feeling of heaviness in my head that lasted about two months and they would make me feel really out if it. Never suffered from headaches or migraines in the past and all my blood work would come back normal including MRIs and CT's. Headaches ended up going away on their own and the thing I remember doing was intense meditation and mindfulness exercises 24/7. I also ate healthier and started taking vitamins so not sure if that helped but it went away. It wasn't until 4 months later I found out my VD was at 16 and I quickly started supplementing. My level is 100 now and I am still dealing with symptoms such as pain in my muscles. I am doing physical therapy but I don't think its helping much. Gonna give the VD more time as I have read it takes a long time for your body to physically recover from a deficiency depending on how bad you were. I am taking about 8k/day and monitoring my level every couple of months plus k2 and eating foods with lots of magnesium.

Thanks y85411, currently I am taking D3 400iu as I cannot handle large doses of vitamin D, it certainly triggers my anxiety for someone reason.
The head pressure has definitely improved through some exersize given by the physiotherapist, but the balance issues/feeling giddy is still there.
Does anyone else have anxious feelings after taking vitamin D?

forgot to mention it definitely aggravates my tinnitus and causing panic attacks and heart palpitation.

@8umblebee Hi! Last tested at 13ng - extremely low vit D count. What is your vit d level? I am taking D3 5000iu and I find myself getting extreme migraines hours after. I started taking magnesium as well and see a big difference in decrease of headaches. Apparently D3 depletes magnesium and that may be the reason why you have anxiety. Try supplementing magnesium in your system to help balance it.

The last blood test showed 24.
at presents I have headaches/head pressure/tinnitus and dizziness, along with aches and pains!
What are you symptoms?

@8umblebee I can assure you the 400iu won't do anything. When I started taking larger VD doses I felt terrible. My anxiety would come back, my aches and pains felt worse. It seemed like all my symptoms would multiply. You have to stick through it. Even though I felt like this I kept thinking of the bigger picture. I want to heal as fast as possible. Unfortunately the iu's you are taking just won't be enough to get you there anytime soon. My suggestion is to increase your dose significantly and experiment with magnesium too. Usually this is the cause for that increase in anxiety and also pain. I snack on almonds and pistachios all day if you don't want to take mag in form of pill. They have lots of magnesium.

Actually it all started 3 years ago .. i was like getting tired ... all of a sudden hairfall ... a wave of fatigue hits me every afternoon.. later i noticed severe back pain including all the ribs along with numbness and weakness in legs and arms especially at night. A day came when i was unable to bend over .. it hurted a lot . I visited to a hospital . my doc ordered vitamin d tests and MRI of spine . vitamin D came back as low (13.0 ng/mol) . Doc prescribed me multivitamins along with vitamin d 1000iu for 4 months. now my vitamin levels are at 28 ng /mol but still i deal with fatigue everyday .. lack of intrest in any activity, low on energy, depression, mild bone pain. The only thing which got cured is muscle weakness.. headaches come and go . i dont know when i will get completely cured and live a normal life again.

I did take the high dose however for weeks i was down depressed and suffered panic attacks, I have Hypersensitive Neurological Disorder (probably cause of deficiencies) so even the smallest dose sends me haywire.
Believe me it is horrible having this deficiency but taking large doses may fix the deficiency but causes a host of other problems, my biggest one is head pressure/dizziness followed by anxiety.
I wish there was a discipline in healthcare that looked at the bigger picture when it came to deficiencies and how a particular supplement can deplete other key vitamins and minerals!
