Warm sensation inside leg but not hot to touch
Posted , 99 users are following.
I have severe health anxiety and have been experiencing every symptom for the past 4 months. Recently I have developed a new sensation which of course sent me into a panic all over again. I am getting a warm sensation on the outer side of my left knee but it's not hot to touch. It feels like a hot cup of coffee was put against it or I rubbed Bengay on it. It only lasts for a few seconds and then goes and comes again off and on throughout the day. It's just a spot about the size of a ball that feels internally warm. Does anyone else experience this. I googled and now I am in a panic thinking it's a serious neurological disease. Please help

Wow I really thought I was just going slightly insane but apparently not! I've never been professionally diagnosed but I'm more than 99% certain I have an anxiety problem that I've learnt to handle. I noticed after a large amount of time over the Christmas holidays were I had no real stress that I was fine, but now uni is starting again I've been overthinking more things and more recently starting getting random hot or warm patches on my right calf exactly like it has been described by the rest of the replies!! I never had this particular symptom before so I didn't think it was anxiety related at all!!

If it truly does bother you see a doctor. But mine simply went away when I had stopped focusing on it, then I realized with a happy start that it had gone.
Do hope I have been a help. We are all made differently so do what you feel most comfortable with. Please try not to worry too much .x

Dear So Anxious,
Sorry but I did not find the reason , I googled also but chalked it up to stress and another side effect from the R A, but would advise you to go to your phy. or an urgent care and get it checked, my symptoms went away
Warm Regards

I have started to experience the same sensation a week ago. i stupidly googled and have made my self sick with worry and have convinced myself have i have Ms.
Vitamin d deficiency and anxiety seem
to be common in this feed. it also seems that most of the people who have commented have noticed their symptoms go away over time. is there anyone who still experiences this warm spot, and if so have you got any more answers as to what it could be? im just hoping mine stops so my anxiety goes away.

Great thread! male, age 45 here, with the exact same symptoms, definitely anxiety related. Ive had the warm sensations come and go over the years, and just wanted to offer my support to everyone, and remind everyone that when anxiety is involved its not just tension and such causing these sensations, but the hyper-awareness that comes with anxiety that draws the mind to sensations we might ordinarily ignore or not even notice. Laugh at it when you can, and treat yourself to a warm water bottle on the belly or whatever else helps you chill out. The sensations will come and go but you'll still be here and you'll be fine. Peace, y'all.

hello! i can't offer medical advice, but my first step would be to check out a book like "Don't Panic" by Reid Wilson. It has a good section on determining whether your issues are entirely anxiety related or coming from an underlying health issue. That might help you figure out who you need to talk to. I found this book a really good source of de-stressing techniques and panic-attack coping mechanisms, too.

In case anyone happens to be reading this 2 years later--I do have some updates to my specific conditions. This is also posted as a reply to my original response to this post. Hope this benefits someone!
When I originally found this post, I was finishing my dual degree at university and had been struggling with severe stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. I had recently started a new job, was mere months away from graduation, and barely holding it together. The sensation more or less faded once the stress and anxiety were not as severe. The experience, however, did lead me to contact a physician to discuss my concerns. After multiple blood tests, MRIs, and Xrays, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in Sep 2017. In Sep 2018, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, sciatica, and chronic lumbago. In May 2019, I was diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency and was placed on 50000 IU of VitD. Through physical therapy, I also learned I have a tilted pelvic girdle that forces my right hip to sit lower then my left. I am currently being treated for chronic neuropathy on top of my chronic pain syndrome. So far, the only combination of medications that has worked for me is a mix of muscle relaxers, antidepressants, and anti-epileptics. The combo has helped calm my nerves so I do not experience this discomfort as frequently as I used to.
I hope this helps

hi All, this is so interesting. i too have exactly this symptom, it feels like a band of heat across the middle of my right shin bone. i have it occasionally, its very noticeable, and then it dissapears only to return months or longer later, i have never thought to mention this to my doctor and regretfully had my physical yesterday but will note this for future. very odd. i am healthy, athletic, have no health issues and normal metabolites, no cancers, neurological issues. will be interested to hear from any of you that have posted above, noting some of the posts are dated, what happened to you? anything come of the hot spot ln the right shin?

Hi Kim!
After undergoing a battery of medical tests (mri of the lower back, blood tests, electromiograms etc) nothing was found. Neurologist told me that sometimes strange body sensations can be caused by anxiety or stress. Vascular specialist pointed out that there were some studies that some people working in static electricity environments had also reported this symptom so that if nothing was found i could think of this as a cause( very present in my office).
Having said that i guess its safe to visit a doctor and get some tests done but don't freak out cause, at least in my case, it was thankfully nothing serious. I hope this helps!

Hi Salma!
i had only warm sensation in my legs, random and i felt sometimes like a phone vibration under my feet. did many tests and it turned out to be probably stress or exposure to static electricity. i don't have it any longer. In any case better get it checked but it can just be a stressful period you are undergoing (right now it seems the whole planet) or your vitamine deficiency. i hope its nothing and keep us updated!
