Weakness and nausea 4 months after gallbladder removal

well it's been 4 months since I had the gallbladder removed on Tuesday and I'm no better. Still persistent nausea no appetite dry wretching or sometimes vomiting in the morning and horrendous weakness. It's been the worst 4 months of my life. Waking up in the middle of the night every night with the nausea sometimes at 230am and can't go back to sleep. Some days it eases off by lunch time some days it doesn't. Have been in and out of hospital and have been told it's a side effect of the surgery and it's very rare. Have found other people who had gone through similar experiences and it can take 6-9 months to recover. Have posted on this before but got little feedback. Just posting again in case there's anyone this has happened to or that they may know of this happening to. Any feedback welcome. Thanks

Hi there no your not going mad at all. I've put on weight too and did during the year I couldn't eat. I would suggest you get your hormone levels tested as well as hormone imbalance is one of the causes of gallbladder problems and unfortunately for some of us having it removed makes the imbalance worse. Try ginger tea for the nausea and acupressure bands which really helped me. I was on lots of anti nausea meds which didn't help. I had a huge cyst on my ovary which also contributed to my problems. I've been working with a naturopathic doctor which really helped and identified the root cause of my problems. You could also try milk thistle which I found really helped. I hope you feel better soon. Take care x

I had my gallbladder removed on July 27 of this year. But before, I went to the ER for over two months everyday for them to finally see it was my gallbladder which was inflamed. I now 6 weeks lap chole post op and I am dizzy, lightheaded, weak and have low bp at times during the day. I still have trapped gas and bloated all the time. I am on a low fat diet and watch what I eat. I still have loose stool and diarrhea. I take Bcomplex, vitamin C, align, iron twice a day. I eat but small portions throughout the day like a baby. I am feeling awful. Any tips for me please? I can barely do a thing.

Acejohnston did your nausea ever remit? I am having similar issues. I had my gallbladder out almost 3 months ago and was totally fine the first month and then ever since have had horrible nausea and reflux. Had a gastric emptying scan and don't have gastroperesis, and will soon have an EGD and esophageal manometry as well but wanted to see if you ever found relief from your symptoms after your surgery.

Had gallbladder removed 5 months ago,,,keyhole surgery.Had daily nausea before and after surgery and lack of appetite.tried all the ppi's and h2 blockers, carafate and many others with no success.after seeing two different specialists and getting no help from them my primary care doctor did some research and decided to approach my problems from a different angle.Anti depression drug nortriptyline 10mg once a day.Took about a week but eventualy nausea started to decrease and appetite got better.Side effect of some ringing in ears and feeling slightly tired is much better than that damn nausea.Been on this drug for about one month, not perfect but alot better.Getting good sleep now also.Might be worth checking out.I have experienced first hand how depressing and debiliating nausea and lack of appetite can be.Going in for MRI tomorrow to check for loose gallstone left behind in bile duct.

Hello There! I feel like I am in the same boat. I had my gallbladder out in April of 2020 and am still very nauseated and sick. I am not adjusting well and have bad indigestion and diarrhea. I hope I will recover soon. I get a tight throat with nausea each day and most foods don't sit well with me. I run to the bathroom a lot and get painful gas. I know the bile is no longer stored and sent straight to the small bowel. I know others who didn't take as long to feel better and bounced back quickly. I wish I was like that. The odd part is I had the flu for the first time the February a few months before my surgery. I always wonder what the virus did to my body. I have suffered nausea the past few years. And what I didn't at the time know were gallbladder attacks. I have a feeling it could take years before I recover from gallbladder surgery. I had a bunch of small stones. The doctors didn't want to believe me at first and said I had reflux indigestion anxiety. I knew my gallbladder had to be attacking since it hurt right in that spot and never had indigestion nausea quite like this. Thought I was having a heart attack. I am not as constipated now since the surgery. Fatty foods are everywhere. Some of my favorite foods cause the most trouble. No one knows what it's like to have gallbladder attacks unless it happens to them. I felt like I was having contractions for birth! They lasted so many hours and became so frequent daily that I couldn't sleep. It's a relief I got it out during the pandemic. My surgeon said it went well. I feel I may suffer from post cholecystectomy syndrome. If I'm not better in a few years I know I will be more depressed than now. I dread the idea of working sick. I had to work like that prior to my surgery. I worked some after but the pandemic I got to stay home with the shut down. I don't know how I can manage to focus with debilitating nausea. I don't want to bring others down with my health complaints and sickness. It consumes me day to day. A living nightmare! I could write on and on, but I feel I've said enough for now.

it took me a long time to recover from gall bladder and large stone removal by laparoscopic surgery in Oct 2018- i wished i had open surgery as it eas dragged out thru my belly button and i have a lot of digestive disconfort and belly pain.
i had to stop taking Ranitidine in Augyst due to manufacturer stopped supplying and figestion has been awful, complicated from hysterectomy in Jan 2020.
sometimes i think bodies sometimes just dont ever recover and all the tablwts in the world cant restore your health. i wish you good luck- hang in there and eat bland foods until you can eat more richer foods!
