What could be causing my dizzy spells

I am messaging because I need help!

For the past few years I have been suffering with dizzy spells, but It only happens when I am in a car, driving in a straight line, it feels like everything is moving a lot faster that it is and I can't focus on anything!

My blood pressure if fine!

I have been to a neurologist and had a MRI scan, conclusion was, everything was fine.

I was then sent to audiology that ran every test in the book, they told me my ears are ok

I went to my opticians who ran a peripheral vision test about 5 time and said everything was fine!

My GP said there is nothing else that can be done!

If I am not able to get in a car soon I am going to lose my job!

Can you please help?

Have you ever heard of anything even similar to this or have any advise of what I can do?

Thanks

Jennifer Rogers

Wow. My symptoms are similar. I'm the same. So far, tests are negative. It's basically only what I am telling people. It makes you feel a little bit crazy....

?I've been experiencing dizzy spells on and off and sometimes far between for a couple of years, but it's never affected my driving up unitl 2 months ago. I had travelled about 6 hours by car to visit family. On the drive home, I was driving on the highway (driving about 110 km per hour...with the flow of traffic). Around an hour into the drive I started to feel aweful; light headed, woozy. I felt like I had to stare straight ahead, that I couldn't look at anything else. I also felt I was going to leave the road. Bends were the worse. I had to pull off the hwy and have my husband take over (luckily he was with me, that time). I thought it was lack of sleep. I hadn't slept much for the past couple of days (night shift worker).

?I had to drive 6 to 7 hours to take my son to his specialist appointment this week. We never made it. After driving fine for 3 hours, all of sudden I felt dizzy again. Same feeling (this is the 4th time this has happened now while driving on the hwy). We missed our appointment. This is aweful. I live in a very rural area, hundreds of kilometres (or miles) away from any major city. I have to drive on highways.

?I finally saw a doctor yesterday. All the tests he performed in the office were negative. He said he thinks it is either something in my inner ear, or BPPV. He basically told me I have to wait it out (and hopefully it goes away). But what about driving?? Our specialist appointment was rebooked in 3 weeks. I feel helpless. I am so upset!

Vertical Heterophoria could be the culprit! It's a vision problem that can make your vision confused, one eye see things higher than the other and your peripheral vision is affected, giving you the false notion that things around you are moving when in reality you are the one moving. It's worth discussing it with your doctor and asking to be seen by a specialist!

      Best regards!

Hello Jennifer! If you haven't yet looked into

Vertical Heterophoria, please do so! That could be the answer, problem could be in your vision. Discuss it with your doctor!

    Regards!

To all whom can't find an explanation to dizziness, I suggest researching Vertical Heterophoria. It's worth looking into it!

      Best wishes to all!

I just had my MRI done yesterday. I'm going through the exact same thing. I was planning to get my eyes checked next, but I didn't think that was the issue. Please, let me know if it ever went away.

I just started having these same symptoms when driving.  The first time I almost passed out 3 times and had to ask a stranger to drive me home.  In the past I have had benign positional vertigo and did the exercises for it and that worked.  This current dizziness is different.  Right now I am still able to drive about 1/4 mile (with mild dizziness) but no further most days.  Sometimes I get a "swoosh" of tingling all over my body in addition to the dizziness.  I checked the symptoms of Vertical Heterophoria and though some are similar, it doesn't really complete fit with what I'm having.

Has anyone had a diagnosis yet?  I have an appt Monday with my primary physician, if I can find someone to take me.
