What's wrong with me?!

Hi guys,

I'm new to this. Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place - just after some ideas/advice.

Since the beginning of December I've been feeling sick quite regularly, particularly after eating food. This became so severe that over Xmas I was off work for a week, spent the week in bed feeling excessively tired and feeling horribly sick. I barely ate anything and as soon as I did eat then I just felt even worse. I've seen my GP on 3 separate occasions now. She has prescribed Omeprazole 20mg and Metoclopramide 10mg, both of which I've been taking for 2.5 weeks now. GP has asked me to change my diet and is putting my symptoms down to Gastritis. I should add, whilst I don't eat unhealthy food, I do work 12 hour shifts which include nights so the times at which I eat and the food I choose to eat at these times can affect my stomach. Bloods have been taken, but nothing showed up so as far as the GP is concerned there is nothing to worry about. But.....as I'm sure you can appreciate, there is something to worry about because I still don't feel well, and this is six weeks later.

Making the situation a million times worse is I'm Emetophobic (fear of vomit) and so feeling sick stresses me out because I then worry that I might be sick and tend to avoid eating in case I am sick.

No diarrhoea, vomiting or passing of blood accompanies my symptoms. Just the feeling sick and overly tired. Does anyone know what could be causing this and if there is anything I can do to aid recovery?

Many thanks in advance for any help offered,

Dec

This sounds almost exactly what I went through during menopause. However I didn't know it was caused by my hormones for years and went through all kinds of tests including an extended GI scope all with normal results. It wasn't until I went for a checkup with my gyn that I happen to mention the nausea and all the other symptoms that she said "oh yes, some women experience those symptoms when they are going through menopause"! I was so upset that none of the other doctors I had seen even mentioned the possibility of this!! I went on bio identical hormones and the symptoms began to slowly dissipate. Now I'm through menopause I feel better and only occasionally have symptoms.  That's my story. Hope it helps.

Hi I am beginning to become depressed upset now because I have had this feeling sick and being sick problem for awhile been to the doctors about it but at the moment much has,nt been done apart from a blood test I feel they should try and arrange more tests at first it was just feeling really sick but not actually being that sick then I started being sick this couple of weeks with a bit of blood in my sick on Saturday but at the moment there is nothing to worry about. But been sick 5 times in two weeks and couldn't stop trying to throw up Wednesday night after 3 times actually throwing up and started getting sharp pain in my belly Tuesday night and Wednesday night with or without the sickness. All the doctor has given me is Gavascon liquid as I can get bad chest pain with the sickness too which I threw up Wednesday night. What would you advise as I feel I would like a Endoscopy as I have been waiting too long as I would like to finally know what s wrong with me and I have always had yellow skin when I am ill I just think it is jaundice as I have some of the symptoms when I looked it up. thanks.Katie

Hi whoever happens to see this.

I know this is old - I'm new to this. Hoping someone will see.

I'm 19, and i have a ridiculous phobia of vomiting. I've always had a phobia since I was 10. When I was about 12 I sort of got over it - was still scared but didn't really think about it. In the past 6 months, I have become so scared to the point where I won't eat, I won't eat out, I won't let people cook for me (even my parents who have cooked for me my whole life and never made me sick - yet still scared) I get scared to cook for myself, I worry about food contamination constantly, I get worried to leave home incase I get sick and I cannot get help if I'm away from home, every single time I need to eat, I worry. I constantly worry someone is going to make me sick from food poisoning or a sickness because I am so so so scared of throwing up. I have severe anxiety about it. I know most of the time when I eat and don't feel well it's anxiety but I cannot shake off the feeling and just feel nauseous all the time and it's so annoying it's literally beyond a joke to me now. How the fk can I get over this because I was never like this before 6 months ago. I've lost a lot of weight. I used to be a little pudgy now have people constantly telling me how skinny I look.

    Anyway. This vomiting issue.

Does any one else have this problem of being so scared of throwing up they will avoid anything that may result in it? Help 😢

Get the gastric emptying test. Look up GASTROPARESIS to see if your symptoms match. It took my previous doctor 4 years to figure out what I had. It did go away for 7 years, so it tends to come and go....

The meds you have been given are EXACTLY what I've been given. I've been diagnosed with gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach muscles). What would take a normal stomach to digest food in 90 mins takes my stomach 199 mins. Have you ever been given the gastric emptying test? Because you are taking the same meds I am, I suspect you've had this test.

The most important thing to do is stay away from fiber, anything with skin (fruits, beans, meat) as it's too hard for the stomach to digest. Eat soft foods (puddings, yogurts, avocado, chicken w/rice soups). What is saving me are saltine crackers. I get that horrible bloated feeling if I eat something that isn't digesting. I've also started drinking two dixie cups of prune juice at night. What a difference. But based on your meds, my guess is that you're already trying these. Something that amazingly works are Butterfinger candy bars. I bought the small size and when I need a kicker, I eat one of the those. Also, put your headboard on 4 bricks to force the food downward as you sleep. This condition comes and goes and can last up to a year as it takes us that long to figure out what works. Sometimes walking around helps as it forces the stomach muscles to move. But I do know that at times this condition makes us so uncomfortable that even just barely moving is beyond painful. My heart goes out to you.....

    Hi everyone.

Been having this exact symptoms for 2+ years on and off.

O can go some time without and without any warning comes.

Last Thursday I drunk a bit too much, next day hanging, Saturday better but from Sunday terrible symptoms. Dizzy, sickness, nausea and terrible headaches. This time I did drink but lately I don't even drink and i still have this symptoms coming from nowhere.

After bloods done and checked for bacteria, everything normal apart from high cholesterol. Doctor told that was migraines at one point and then it was stress but end up giving me Lomoprozol. Had an endoscopy done more then 10 years ago and was told that a valve fails to close só acid comes through.

Doctor without anymore ideas gave me Lomoprozole and statin back in November, havent had anymore symptoms until now.

Don't know what to do anymore, it was so bad this week that I thought i was going to die.

Next stop might ask for another endoscopy and probably a scan to the gallbladder.

Note: I am also being treated for pelvic floor dysfunction/anxiety. But not taking anything else for it.

Hey. I know how old this post is but this is similar to how i have started feeling. I recently passed out while i was at work on sunday around 4:30pm . My work called an ambulance for me and i went to the hospital. I had abdominal pains from my belly button to my right hand side. I went for an ultrasound as they thought it was my appendix but they couldnt locate my appendix on the ultrasound nor nothing wrong. I was discharged from the hospital when my pain subsided but now everytime i think about food i feel like throwing up. But i cant throw up. And straight after i eat food is when the feeling is most intense. The pain may not be there but whatever this is, is. I always feel tired now and i pass more gas than usual. Its been 2 and a half days so far but me being a chef and my love for food is immense this strikes me as highlt unusual. Especially when just thinking about food makes me sick when it used to make me soo soo hungry. And ive already lost 1kg in these 2 days. Im 77kg and 21yrs old.

Doctors have no idea what it is. But i know this is not normal for me and something is wrong.

Does anyone have an answer for what is wrong with me

Wow we are like a carbon copy of each other. Fear of vomiting here and anxiety (from the father) and panic attacks.
