When will this get better 😥

I'm coming up to 6 weeks now on 40mg citalopram and the past few days have been really difficult again!
morning anxiety is so hard to deal with
My mood is really low
I was finding evenings a little easier but that doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
My anxiety is still bad
I just feel like giving up atm and that these tablets aren't gonna work for me anymore. It's so hard not to go to the doctors to switch to something else. How much longer do I have to keep going for? Surely I would have seen some improvement by now.

Are these from med side effects?
Did you have them before meds?
I dont have a psychiatrist either.
You gotta be careful they dont put you on multiple meds .

It's hard to tell really. I was on 20mg for 4 years and was doing great. I was lucky because I had very mild side effects and they worked in about 3 weeks. They seemed to stop working about 5 months months ago so some sausage of a doc put me on mirtazapine too. And that's when I went downhill fast! So adding more meds is not good. I'm 6 weeks in now x how are you feeling at the minute?

Hello! Still feeling off. How you doing?
I been on reduced dose 10 mg since last friday. I been at this since January when i was on lexapro 10 mg for month and that didnt work so i went on celexa which worked last time around a month.
I been on the celexa 20 mg since early feb. and side effects galore so im trying reduced dose.
I went to gym and hardly any energy.
I get these intrusive thoughts which are terrible .
I dont get why i keep getting them .
I use to have them about my health years ago but now its different .
Potatoghost gsquez77

If you don't mind me asking what are your intrusive thoughts? X I sorry to hear you are feeling off still. I'm the same my morning anxiety is really difficult to cope with atm. It seems to be less most evenings and a bit easier to cope with x not always. It's so disheartening when they worked in the past but taking a lot longer this time. What has your gp suggested? Are you seeing a a councillor or anybody else?

the 10th of june will be a year of me on a reduced dose and still settling x

Hello! I just went down on the dose to 10 mg from 20.
I am seeing a counselor for this weekly.
I just get weird random thoughts of something going bad which doesnt relect who i am.
Im not really doing much daily but do try to get out from time to time.
Just a general feeling of not feeling well and not up to doing much .
Toria what type of effects do you get still if any?
How you doing ?
toria_07298 gsquez77

hey, i still get lots of symptoms, migraines, pains, nausea, anxiety, fear, doom, dizziness, but i just try to crack on and ignore them, at the start it was constant x

That could well be a side effect of either the tablets or anxiety tbh. Anxiety is a nightmare to live with. It could be both. Dropping a dose is pretty hard to do aswell so it could be that that's giving you horrible thoughts. Does it come in waves for you?
gsquez77 Potatoghost
Posted
Hey ! Yeah it comes in waves .
I get triggers too like watching certain things or hearing about stuff.
I was very active before the meds so i know that for sure.
I feel more restless now but dont feel like doing much if that makes any sense.
My anxiety seems worse than before meds .
Is 10 mg a decent dose?
Do you all have just anxiety?

I have anxiety and depression so it's difficult to deal with both at the same time. Some symptoms mimic each other so I can't tell if it's the anxiety or depression or both sometimes that I'm suffering with. You will have less interest in activities and hobbies and even small things. It's hard to do but you need to force yourself to do things sometimes. Start with stuff you are comfortable with. Like a little bit of tidying or housework. Even if it's even smaller, fluff a pillow, straighten cushions, fold cloths it's all about keeping busy when you can. Some people do need more than 10mg I was doing really well on 20mg and now 40mg so I'm on the highest. When the waves come how do they make u feel? X

Hello! I use to love the gym and music and movies and stuff like that.

I havent been active and seem to be isolated now.

i sew for a living and my trigger was my sewing machine go figure.so i force my self to sew anything.n the grocery store was also a trigger so i force my self to grocery store
Potatoghost gsquez77

Pick one of them things and force yourself to do it x it's gonna be tough and you won't enjoy doing it but if you force yourself you will start getting used to it again and soon it will be a lot easier and you will have something to help while you recover. You don't have to do it right now but keep pushing. You'll eventually get so used to it your anxiety won't be a problem when you do it anymore. I used to love ps4 games and been playing guitar for 10+years. The past few days I have put on a game I used to enjoy playing
First time it made me feel sick and extremely anxious
Second time in a little bit less
Third time even less
You have to try and crack on x it's so much easier said than done so don't beat yourself up if you can't. You will get their x

Yeah i cant focus on tv now or reading.
My phone draws my attention and looking for remedies for my condition.
I also think i have a bad disorder now.
I feel terrible when i get those thoughts.
I went to therapy and the grocery store with my cousin.
I
I felt lil anxious at store and feel out of it today and somewhat low.
I spend the majority of my time at home now. Im not working and single.
I have both too conditions too.
Thanks!

Both conditions? Just be careful what you read online because if you see something about someone not getting better or someone saying negative things about what you are going through it can make you a whole lot worse x when is the next time you see the gp? I can't remember if you said you take anything else for the anxiety x sorry my memory is terrible atm xlol

please just remember i was like that at the start, i now walk before breakfast, do some cleaning, have lunch, walk after lunch, i do online surveys, then tea and if im not going the golf course i walk again, i couldnt even stand music at the start, now i can wear headphones and listen to certain music, and i love comedies on tv! unfortunately im one of the unlucky ones that gets terrible pain in withdrawal but like the anxiety etc i just try to ignore it, the amount of times ive thought i had cancer through this is unreal x

Hello! Yeah anxiety and depression.
I see him early June.
I dont really do much lately . Just like lounge around like a zombie.
I might go to gym after for a bit but of course my energy will be low .
I use to be able to have lil bit caffeine before and now forget it.
I hear gut health can play a role in how you feel too.
I been eating ok but not the best appetite. I tend to like to snack around more than usual.
The other issue is i think i have some other disorder other than what i have.
I need to start thinking more clearly.
I do have a benzo but scared to get tolerate and have withdrawls.
I also tried buspar 5 mg and that wasnt so great . Buspar is an anti anxiety med.
Could i be getting withdrawls going down from 20 to 10 mg?
Thanks!

Are you living in the UK? What do you think the depression symptoms are for you? Anxiety and depression do have a lot of the same symptoms and it all gets mixed together so it's so confusing to tell what is what. The benzo will be instant anxiety relief within an hour. It will completely chill you out. Your body and mind will relax a little it might make you sleepy but it will be noticeable. Try not to worry about withdrawal from the benzo just yet. Most people won't get withdrawal unless they are on a high dose for 4+weeks. Apart from our Toria on here bless her she seems to have had everything going and not much luck (she's hardcore having to deal with what she's been through bless her) is your benzo 2mg or 5mg? I used to take 10mg nearly everyday for a year and never had withdrawal coming off. Its hard to tell if you are getting withdrawal from going down from 20mg to 10mg but I think you probably are and deal g with everything all at the same time x your gp will be able to say better than we can x

I had a few good things for you to check on the NHS but didnt realise you weren't in the UK. The area I live in the south west is one of the worst places for help with mental health. I'm very lucky I have the NHS so gp appointments and anything to do with this is free. Apart from my prescription for meds is only £8 a month. Depression is so horrible aswell. Did you try a benzo yet? X
gsquez77 Potatoghost
Posted
Yeah im not working now so im on state insurance and on disability for this which sucks.
I tried a benzo for two days a month ago and didnt take it the next day and felt so anxious for some reason.
It helped the days i took it i guess some relief.
Its a tough deal and very complex issue .
You know one thing leads to another .
We go on the med for anxiety and then it leads to other issues (side effects).
I am sensitive to these type of meds.

Hey Lois- Your right i should not have come off and thats my problem.
I thought i didnt need it and i be ok.
I was ok for a while and then bam it hit me again worrying about stuff.
Now im dealing with it since Jan.
I was on lexapro at first for a month and didnt agree with me so i went on celexa 20 and reduce to 10 now.
I gotta decide what to do next.
Thanks!

It's so much trial and error with these meds. Getting you on the right one with the right dose ect. I'm not working either. I got fired last week because of my mental health on mental health awareness week of all times! Gotta laugh though. I may have "accidentally" knocked about a dozen bottles of wine off the shelf on my way out too 😯. Have you tried a beta blocker? Might suit you more than a benzo? Less side effects apparently.

How does that work for anxiety?
I have both anxiety and some depression.
I need something to help me productive again .
I do get out from time to time.
I use to go out no problem before the meds in Dec.
Anyway now things have changed.

Yeah ! How long do we wait until we get relief?
How you doing on your dose ?
I reduced to 10 because 20 was getting issues and now cant sleep and anxious.
I use to exercise 7 days a week and now since meds i am down to not that much and feel anxious there .
I lay around a lot and try to get going for walk and some exercise at gym.
It is do hard to go now and when i do it is not the same .

A beta blocker won't stop the intrusive thoughts or anxious thoughts but it will get rid of the physical side effects of anxiety. Shaking, tight chest, fast heartbeat, sweating ect. It's pretty safe with few side effects. It won't make you feel calm like a benzo but it should relieve physical symptoms. We are both in the same position having both so we can help each other through the tough times with the help from the experts that have being helping us on this thread. I would have lost the plot a few more times than I have if it wasn't for Lois Toria and Laura. They have been amazing
gsquez77 Potatoghost

I went through this once before and this is really harder. Honestly i been at this almost 6 months and its not getting easier.
Can a beta blocker interact with celexa?
Arent those for performance anxiety and blood pressure?
I need something for the thoughts too would be ideal .
gsquez77
Posted
Hey you ever hear of passion flower or skull cap herbs for anxiety?
I guess these work like benzo to increase the gaba in the brain.
Probably not as strong or longlasting as those.
I think we need more gaba for anxious minds.
The Celexa works on serotonin but how do we know we are deficient in this ?
Maybe we are getting too much of that at first until our body adjusts to the level.
Its all trail and error which sucks.
Potatoghost gsquez77

They are used for performance anxiety and blood pressure but are used also with ADs to help ease physical symptoms. I think they can make you feel a little more tired but they are used quite often with ADs from what I hear. I think the only med that will help with thoughts is going to be the citalopram but a benzo would be the next thing I think. It will relax you enough so the thoughts don't seem as prominent. Six months is a long time to try I personally think you should talk to your gp if you aren't feeling any relief yet x what did you go through last time if you don't mind me asking? X

It took me 7 months now and 3 different doses, and just in the last 3 weeks since decreasing to 15mg did I feel better. I was about to tell the doctor to switch me or something because I felt desperate and thought 7 months should be plenty of time to work. I think once I hit the right dose, I feel better then I have since I can even remember. I'm sure there will be down times still for a little while, and lifes stresses as they come, which that happens to everyone but as of now I can say I feel really good.

They gave them to you to help with the anxiety while the A/D are kicking in. I'm sure it's just a short term treatment and once the A/D's start really working then you won't need them anymore, or rarely. Even when I took Clonazepam for extreme anxiety and panic attacks after I would feel a little low, but I would also be relieved of the anxiety and panic, and the low mood wouldn't last that long. It was a very fair trade in my opinion. So if you get really anxious I wouldn't be afraid to take one for help while waiting for the A/D to kick in because as we all know once anxiety gets too high its much harder to get back down, and it likes to spiral out.

Hey Grounded so glad to hear you are feeling a lot better. I seem to be getting their just very very slowly! If I look back on how I was 5 weeks ago I'm definitely better just not by that much. Its only when I look back I can see it. Thank you for your reassurance about the beta blockers because it would be nice to know I could have something as a back up if things got tough again. And with the ups and downs it's bound to happen isn't it? Lol. You are so right about when the anxiety spirals its so hard to get it back down again x

That's great that you're feeling a little better, its baby steps for sure but once you start to notice it yourself thats a very positive sign! And about the beta blockers, as long as you're taking the citalopram and it's on its way to working there should be no problems with taking it as needed. Why suffer? Thats how I looked at it. Hoping you continue to get better each day! 😃
