Whole body muscle weakness/atrophy on right side
Posted , 57 users are following.
My symptoms are below:
-Mid 2006- Felt right leg week when I am exercising. Felt right hand weak and fine tremor.
-Did all possible tests and MRI,EMG, everything normal in 2008.
-2006-2017 - I let it go and nothing was bothering.
-But meanwhile all the length I have observed that my right side of the body was little weak in terms of muscle strength and muscle mass.
-I could able to do all the things and can able to do even now.
-But now whole my right side has a little less mass, face, shoulders, trunk hip, glutes, thigh , leg and foot.
-Little that it is not yet innterfering in the daily activities.
-Concerned, I went to neurologist.
-EMG done and it is normal.
-Neuro ordered blood tests.
- midly elevated calcium, aldolase, liver enzymes, album and positive ANA with < 1:80.
-ANA is positive but titer is normal (< 1:80)
-Planning to meet the neuromuscular specialist next month.
-Connecting all dots together till now, I am just wondering what this condition might be?
Given that it is present from long time and I could function normally now with normal EMG, can ALS be ruled out?
Thought this could be polymyositis but I have the weakness and atrophy mosly on one side of the body.
Pleas let me know your thoughts

Hello all!
I have the same thing also on my right side from July 2014. At the begining I was really scared that I would end up with ALS. But since it has passed 4 years simce than, and since the symptomes where from the start on whole right side, I think there is really no possibility that it would be something like that.
I first noticed changes in my distal arm and tongue, than calf and foot muscles. I can now see that it has slowly begin to happen to the left side but in much slower pace, and milder.
I think that I provoked it myself. 9 y ago I took Accutane for one week and I had pretty strange reaction to it, than 4 years ago I took some parasite liver cleansening (herbal) wich contained epsom sald flush. After I did that epsom salt flush, my body reacted in really strange ways. And here I am dealing with it for 4 y now. I also feel pain when i have flare ups (when I’m stressed and atrophy get faster)

I am 55, in good shape, always worked out, not overweight, non diabetic. I have had hypertension for several years. And I also had a pretty hard fall back in 2014, that ruptured both of my triceps tendons.
I have severe wasting all along my left side, starting at the neck, going down the shoulder, arm, and into the hand. I is also very noticeable in the left calf area. I am starting to have pain when walking now, and I have very little use of my left arm. When i first started to notice it, I assumed that my left triceps was just not working correctly, but now notice it in other areas.
I have had ALL blood work, and an EMG this past Thursday. The Dr who did the EMG stated he really could not see any causes for it, other than some possible nerve root impingement in my cervical area, which multiple MRI confirm. I guess I looked disappointed when he told me that, but he said hey it is good news. We can rule out ALS, and Lou Ger rigs disease.
I had a neuro surgeon review my MRI, after the last one showed a possible Myleomalacia in the Thoracic area. But the neuro surgeon stated he did not see that on the MRI, and really didnt see anything else that could be causing this.
Just curious if anybody else in the discussion has ever been tested for chronic, or neurological Lyme disease? I have tested positive for Lyme, but not sure f it can cause these types of problems.
I am also curious if anybody else has ever gotten a definitive diagnosis.
Thanks Joe

I have same thing,. On my right side and the shoulder and arm. I believe it started for me 25 yrs ago when I was in car accident I thought when I looked in mirror a vessal was cut right after accident between my eyebrows more to the right side. Ambulance came and by then I was passed out. I bit a hole through bottom of lip also and had 32 stitches there and like ten where I thought I saw a vessal or vein was cut. Before I was released I asked about it but they saw nothing. Just stitched it up. So I didnt think much of it. Till 6 yrs later a vein in my neck was pulsating for about a week. It was on right side in front of my neck. I thought it was weird but it would come and go for a week then stopped. Now slowly ive been seeing my face fade away slowly also arm and shoulder. Now its changing daily . Suicide is on my mind daily. The stares are the worst. People can be so mean. But I hope you all find help. I was told 10 yrs ago if it is true they cant reattach the vein now because the pulsating I saw was my vein dying. . It had to be done in first few days . What I saw after accident, doctors didnt probably because it had already started to shrink. And they couldnt see it or didnt look for it. Cut was small but deep on forehead between eyes . I remember thinking I was going to bleed to death from the vein cut . But I didnt so no big deal I guess I thought since the doctors didnt seem concerned. Now I know better. They shouldve too though I feel. They were the doctors. Not me.

Hi all! THINK I CONFIRMED THE BRAIN DAMAGE THEORY! & added to it?
(note: i am not in the healthcare industry.... just been noticing things about the body)..
I've noticed some atrophy in the left side of my body.
Pretty noticeable from straight on. 23 y/o.
I am definitely a "right brained" kind of person.
around left 35/ right 65.
Much more exercise in the creative bounds of my cranium than in the mathematics section.
The right side of the brain may be aging differently because both sides aren't being treated(/challenged/used/explored) equally.
The sides are out of balance, so your body follows suit.
"damage to one side of the brain affects the opposite side of the body."

Have you had any luck with your diagnosis Kristy?
I'm experiencing similar symptoms. The only cause I can think of is an injury sustained during chiropractic adjustment. I was seeing a chiro when symptoms started. It started in the right side of my neck and quickly progressed to my right shoulder, abdominals, and leg. The progression took a few months, so it doesn't really seem consistent with a stroke, but what else could it be? Neuro conductivity tests were normal. What sort of specialist should I see next?
I'm very tired of complaining and people thinking that this is all in my head. I'm also worried about the future.

I also feel like an inconvenience to these doctors who can't give me and answer, they tell me to be patient but when you feel like your slowly dying how is that even an option?

I'm also seeing a psychotherapist to deal with the mental / emotional component of this yet undiagnosed illness. She's recommended that I limit my worry to 20 to 30 minutes per day and spend 20 to 30 minutes per day on self-care (deep breathing, yoga, meditation). It's not easy, but if you can do this, I find it helps.

It's looking like for me it's autoimmune.

And it's no longer only on one side. While my right side is still significantly weaker (from tip to toe), my left forearm and quad have now started wasting as well. I'm going back to the neurologist next week. Waiting sucks.
I wish someone on this board was having better luck with their diagnosis.
