Whole body muscle weakness/atrophy on right side

Posted , 57 users are following.

My symptoms are below:

-Mid 2006- Felt right leg week when I am exercising. Felt right hand weak and fine tremor.

-Did all possible tests and MRI,EMG, everything normal in 2008.

-2006-2017 - I let it go and nothing was bothering.

-But meanwhile all the length I have observed that my right side of the body was little weak in terms of muscle strength and muscle mass.

-I could able to do all the things and can able to do even now.

-But now whole my right side has a little less mass, face, shoulders, trunk hip, glutes, thigh , leg and foot.

-Little that it is not yet innterfering in the daily activities.

-Concerned, I went to neurologist.

-EMG done and it is normal.

-Neuro ordered blood tests.

- midly elevated calcium, aldolase, liver enzymes, album and positive ANA with < 1:80.

-ANA is positive but titer is normal (< 1:80)

-Planning to meet the neuromuscular specialist next month.

-Connecting all dots together till now, I am just wondering what this condition might be?

Given that it is present from long time and I could function normally now with normal EMG, can ALS be ruled out?

Thought this could be polymyositis but I have the weakness and atrophy mosly on one side of the body.

Pleas let me know your thoughts

my similar issues started about 8 months ago, big difference being mine is on the left side however in that time I have lost 4 inches of mass in my left leg, an inch in my hip, and 6 cm in my arm, and I have started drooling from the left side of my mouth. My level of fatigue has increased 10 fold. I have done blood work and MRI now with no answer and they have now scheduled me for nerve testing and a spinal tap. I don't announce it to my family but I feel like I am close to death and will die with no answers. Is this how you feel?

I have a spinal tap and a nerve test set up for this week, I can tell you I have lost another 1/4 inch of muscle in my left leg since the 1st measurements were taken, I seem to have stumped them......

Young for Parkinson's, but I guess Michael J. Fox was <40 when he was diagnosed. Do you have tremors? My aunt has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's. She's in her 70's though.

I would like to but in with more then my 2 cents worth. I have been dealing with much of the same for over 2 years and finely have been all fixed up ! Go to a good Vascular Doctor .I cold not even walk around the block anymore, my left leg was an inch bigger around then the right .Went and got a stent in major artery and now no more pain and getting better every day!

Interesting. Could you share more? How did you get referred to the vascular surgeon? What tests did they do? What did they say caused the problem? PVD?

Hello George, thank you for the info. I would also really like to hear more information on your diagnosis and treatment.

      Tank you JOE

Also, how was your blood pressure?

Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you are getting better! If you don't mind me asking, so was is mainly lack of blood flow to the leg or that side of the body that was causing the issue? I'm interested to hear more about the cause of issue. Thanks.

To ALL . my blood presser was always very good . figure that one out! the stent was put in artery that goes across bottom of your belly . It was just a clog ,I like a lot of butter and all the crap you are not supposed to eat. The nurse practitioner suggested one to go to . He spotted problem in 2 min. I went in 5:30 in the morning and was back home by 11:00 .Still not 100 percent but no more pain and now up to 147 lbs..

Just go get it checked out .

hi im not sure what is the latest reply on this thread but has anyone got any answers to these types of "one-sided" muscular issues ?

my right side - leg (calf, thigh and left buttock) and right arm is getting smaller than left. there is a distinct difference. not measured but it is there. There is decrease in strength on the right side compared to left as well. i have been seeing this for past 24 months now. it is causing a lot of anxiety and stress. i try to remain positive but it keeps bothering me. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

i did go to neuro about 18 months back but they didnt seem to think its a problem. should i go in for another check ?

      Dear gar43827,

I'm assuming that you meant your comment to be helpful. Personally, I find it dismissive. My symptoms (and I assume some of the other posters) are not purely aesthetic (i.e., one side of my body is more muscular than the other). I can't make a strong fist with my right hand; I am exhausted at 8pm from holding my head up all day with weak neck muscles; I can't walk long distances without knee and hip pain...

I am so tired of being dismissed by doctors like yourself.

I have been lucky enough the past 2 months to find a Neurologist that has vowed to follow me through to the exact diagnosis. My symptoms left sided came on quick and have progressed just as quick. My PCP was useless when the symptoms started so hopefully you will find the one doc to get you answers....God Bless LB

I'm meeting with a 2nd neurologist this afternoon. I hope to find that level of commitment.

Was truely not meaning to be dismissive, My comment was simply

that one of my doctors that i trust the most, said that my situation

is not really abnormal, and that there is really no problem,

sorry if I evoked any feelings
