Whole body muscle weakness/atrophy on right side
Posted , 57 users are following.
My symptoms are below:
-Mid 2006- Felt right leg week when I am exercising. Felt right hand weak and fine tremor.
-Did all possible tests and MRI,EMG, everything normal in 2008.
-2006-2017 - I let it go and nothing was bothering.
-But meanwhile all the length I have observed that my right side of the body was little weak in terms of muscle strength and muscle mass.
-I could able to do all the things and can able to do even now.
-But now whole my right side has a little less mass, face, shoulders, trunk hip, glutes, thigh , leg and foot.
-Little that it is not yet innterfering in the daily activities.
-Concerned, I went to neurologist.
-EMG done and it is normal.
-Neuro ordered blood tests.
- midly elevated calcium, aldolase, liver enzymes, album and positive ANA with < 1:80.
-ANA is positive but titer is normal (< 1:80)
-Planning to meet the neuromuscular specialist next month.
-Connecting all dots together till now, I am just wondering what this condition might be?
Given that it is present from long time and I could function normally now with normal EMG, can ALS be ruled out?
Thought this could be polymyositis but I have the weakness and atrophy mosly on one side of the body.
Pleas let me know your thoughts

Thanks for the information. I agree and can relate to almost all of those symptoms. Except I don't really have swelling or burning sensation (never really did). I see you said it was your left side that is primarily affected - is this true? Your left side is noticeably worse than your right? I don't think it matters if it's left or right, as many here have stated each side. My side is the left side; however, as I say, my right side is also affected, just not as bad!

I agree with the skin and gum/teeth thing. The left side of me my skin/gum/teeth seem so much weaker and thinner than my right side. All of my mouth problems have been on the left side for the most part since this started happening.

Agree on buttocks/genitalia, all have shrunken on me as well. I used to be "big." Now I'm a shrunken embarrassment (though still not as bad as many - but, in comparison to what I once was I'm nothing). My waist looks so thin and has been shrinking somehow, even though I'm the fattest I've ever been. It's quite insane.

How about one of your eyes/pupils, is one of the colored part (color/black pupil) not a full circle as it once was? That is how it is for me. And of course all of these cosmetic changes occur from the degrading of the bodily function, the visual shrinking is just a side affect.

Constipation is a big problem with me too. It's an everyday worry if I go or not. This is a sign the brain is messed up, or the muscles aren't working properly that push things around via gastro-system. I know for sure the muscle atrophy going on is A cause of this - I don't know if it's the primary. As the muscles inside our abdomen help push the food out of us. Of course diet is the main thing focused on, I eat the "proper" diet and still have major problems.

How about sagging skin too? Of course the ignorant will say: "We all get saggy skin as we age." Well; first off, I'm not old enough for the sagging going on, plus it was a "switch," meaning that this started occurring when other symptoms were going on and is simply a byproduct of what is going on. For instance, I used to have a chubby looking face with the combination of fat and muscle on it. A baby-face as they call it. So I had some skin/fat around my jawline, it was all even across my jawline. Now that I have lost my muscle everywhere (jawline included) and sagging skin affect - I have a nasty looking bunch of hanging skin/whatever muscle I have left right under my chin and not around it where the jawline meets the ear area. Before it was less noticeable, now that I lost all my muscle around my jawline it's an atrocious looking thing under my chin and sags more than it should. As well as my sagging skin via forehead, droopy eyelids, droopy skin above my butt-crack and the rest. It's due to the weakening of our bodies of course. Whatever it is. This causes loss of bone and cartilage too I suspect. I had big circles around my wrists before (whatever the bone is called) that are now invisible. Collapsed septum via my nose on the left side and so on. Losing eyebrow on my left, and of course not just the eyebrow; but, all hair on my body/head and is losing more on the left of course (as my left side is my primarily affected side). Genitals don't work anymore.

I don't see a "Message" option below your username. Can you DM me as we can have a private conversation about this? That is the way I communicate with others who are still around (which is about two of us beside you and I). Why do you say you have late stage liver disease? I ask because I had a scare two months ago where I was in severe pain around the liver area (I've been drinking because I'm going psychotic at being gaslighted about this condition, I know it's not right). I got scans and blood work and my liver was seemingly fine. It was apparently "Pancreatitis." Well, since that time two months ago I've been drinking every other day and have lowered my intake. Before that I was on a splurge of a lifetime, doing a fifth a day for like 10/14 days of two weeks that lasted about 1.5 months. It's sad I know. I'm just going insane because of these doctors who keep gaslighting me and I want answers to what is going on. I guess I'm being emotionally stupid by continuing drinking, it makes me feel good as it raises my endorphin levels. It's no excuse, just a "reason." I know I should stop. I always plan on stopping. I need to get a grip of myself. I need to lover sobriety even if I'm still going to sink with this ongoing condition. I'm kind of pd off that a lot of these people in this thread have abandoned it. It'd be wise to keep in contact through a five year span (which I am getting close to since my debut here). As this will broaden the knowledge involved in our problem. Our problem may truly be so fd up that doctors may REALLY not know what is going on. The problem is: I've taken photos of myself via iPhone that show the proper picture I'm attempting to describe and so forth. The last doctor I saw was to "try out" and attempted to get a muscle biopsy. Of course this young doctor who just started practicing more than likely five or less years ago claims he doesn't see anything wrong with me. The problem is these doctors are all pimped out by the corporations they work for. No longer are the days of doctors thinking for themselves or even having objectivity in their thoughts. These doctors are told what to say/react to "x" statement(s). The problem in these modern times is that there are so many patients as populations keep exploding as time goes on. That gives more power to the doctors. As they can ignore tough situations or neglect them (in our cases) and go for easier patients to funnel the money to the corporation they work for. And of course you would react with: "Why not go to a private practitioner?" Well, I did and he was even worse. I explained my problem and all of that. Then he went on to reply: "Well, if this has been going on this long, it definitely isn't ALS. Especially since you got "x" test and "x" test. It must not be that bad because it's been going on this long." He knows nothing. Just because our problem is slow dripping doesn't negate the severity of it. Plus he thought drinking had nothing to do with my (our) problem. It's not to say drinking is guaranteed; however, to say it has nothing to do with it is a complete fabrication/lie/gaslighting tactic. Drinking reeks havoc on all parts of the body. To say it has no responsibility is stupid. It's like saying: "Well, if you hit this tree with a bat a few times and it doesn't fall over, the bat has no effect on the tree's survival rate." Then you go and hit a tree after hitting 10 others and it falls down. All I know is that this problem affects the totality of our body. Top of the head to bottom of the feet. For our cases here, either the left or right side is PRIMARILY affected. The other side is still affected - just not as severe. I'll say it like this. My right side (less affected side) still feels full/firm/stable. My left side feels like a tire with a lack of air, unstable, hollow, and not as responsive as my right, even though I've had two EMG and one as recent as 10 months ago. The funniest part is how it affects the ears and nose. Ears and nose are supposed to be cartilage and not muscle. I'm not sure if cartilage has nerves or not. If cartilage does not have nerves, it must be the skin that is being affected in our ears/nose. Sorry for the rant, I'm still posting this regardless of how embarrassing I've typed this up. I could've typed in far better wording; however, I don't care about my emotionally motivated words are perceived. As I'm past the zone of "caring" about how I appear in my description of this nightmare. I keep bringing up my genitalia because that isn't supposed to be muscle - though muscle is used to push blood to the penis. My left side of the penis is shaved away. It's as if something has eaten away whatever it has eaten away on the left side and it is more "smooth" compared to the right. It's a sad thing. When I get my fake erections (erection strength of about 35-40% (sometimes even 60% if I had smoked marijuana with a contemporary) I feel more of my penis on the right side than the left when it is "surging" with excitement. It's sad days we're living in to all who deal with this, I hope you all recovery in a miracle and myself too of course.

Love when these egotistical doctors try to blame our problems on being "psychotic." It's all the head, nothing is physically wrong with us. Ya right. No matter what type/amount of thinking can cause the damage that our bodies are going through now. I've never had mental issues either - and have always been reasonable and logical, as I'm too lazy to be otherwise! I hope more can come and update. At this point I just want an answer/diagnosis before falling for good. Fixing this issue seems to be an impossible task. How are we going to get back what has been burned from our body? If it has just shrunken away, we can get it back, not if it is burned away into nonexistence!

I may as well declare this place as my own personal diary! I'm adding more! It's funny how these doctors try to cover up their own insecurities (of not knowing how to diagnose/solve a problem, or it's possible they're purposely acting this way on behalf of the company who holds their puppet strings) by launching an attack on our perception or reality - or lack of. I have even taken photos from my iPhone (I'm someone who has always despised taking photos, even as a young boy in the 90's), and presented such at an angle that is easily able to showcase what is going on physically. They barely look and say: "Nope, I don't see anything." Or they use the pathetic excuse of: "It looks like it's the light!" Okay, what is it? You didn't see anything or is it the light making it appear this way? These people are really pushing it! As the great Napoleon Bonaparte (apparently said): "Doctors will have more lives to answer for in the next world than even us generals." These doctors are foul and egomaniacs. They now a days are owned by the corporations they are attached to. I hate to say it; as everyone knows the United States has been in a huge decline since Obama has been in office, I think if I were to live in China, Cuba, Germany, or Russia I'd be diagnosed by now.

Wanted to ask if anyone else's ears/nostrils have been affected by this? As they apparently lack muscle. Mine have.
