hi all, ive been struggling with depression and anxiety for a few months now, stress and problems over the past few years, i seem to be thinking more of the sad times and not the good times, i was never thr centre of attention kind of guy but was always to one to make people laugh and smile, since the depression and anxiety have hit me i've loss the happiness, the willingness to train in the gym, just want to stay in bed and dont care about what happens to me, i've read alot of your posts and feel like i have alot in common with a good fair few of you, my only hope and i pray to god we all get well again and continue with a happy journey and safe future.

thanks nick

hey Nick, I do have really good days, but I am starting to think that I need to be on a much higher dose to feel really good. Stupid things annoy me like people always talking to me at dinner time for example, (which is crazy),

hey rick, go back to your doctors and get the dose put up, yeah i have simular annoyances like yours, things i used to laugh about seem to make me re-act so sharply now, this was never me in the past.

      Hi Nick

well I'm 62 now, so I'm in a different league to you. I have suffered for years after a bad trauma road accident in 1979, but have just had a hip replacement which went very well. So I'm starting to feel a lot better physically, but the crazy feelings are still with me. 7 years on Cit but still think it's difficult to get the dose just right, because I am sure you know it is a very slow reacting drug, so you may double your dose one day, but not notice the reaction (good or bad) for about a month. Still I am loads better than I was 7 years ago, could have topped myself then. All the best mate

The pills will take 4-6 weeks for a total effect.  They should give you back the energy to work on dealing with the stress and what else may be contributing to the depression.  A therapist will also be helpful.  In the end with meds and hard work you will be the same if not a better person.

Hi Nick - Yes, with a bit of hard work you will get to where you want to be!  I have taken Citalopram for 2 years.  Lots of side effects, but it is worth it.  It gives you the space you need to restore your balance.  I have been discontinuing since January, again lots of withdrawal symptoms, its been quite a journey but life if now much better and I am a happier person!  Do ask your Doctor about CBT as it does help you along your way, if nothing else it is good to have a trained person to talk things over with.

Hi nick its great you feel you know what triggers the anxiety etc and learning to cope with the worries is why cialapram is so good it gives you space to catch up

    Keep strong

Nick, firstly mate you will get better. I don't know the dose your on, but I started on 20mg and in 4 weeks I was feeling much much better and 'back'. Drag yourself to the gym as I did and you will feel better afterwards. Regimented meals, exercise, just getting out of the house. You will come around be give the cit 4 weeks min and stick with it as you will get better mate.

Hey aj15433, I'm only on 10mg and this is my sixth day...Do you think this dosage will be enough to see a difference? I feel so up and down on it. Should I wait another week before I talk to my dr about upping the dose??

I started on 10mg too as I felt a little nauseous starting straight away on 10mg. I upped to 20mg after about 5 - 6 days and within about 3 weeks I felt a zillion times better. Call your GP and ask whether you can up your dosage.

Thanks Fairypie, I think I will do that today. Will the side effects be bad from upping my dose?

Oh really?! I hope that's the case for me. I didn't really have a whole lot of side effects from the 10mg so hopefully it's built up a small blood level to counteract any I might experience with 20.

thank you both for the help and support, im just moving from 10mg - 15mg at the early stage of week two, a fair few side effects but i feel this is due to citalopram getting into my system, so bearing with it at this time, feeling anxious about the forth coing weeks.
