Will it ever end?

sad rolleyes

I am 37 years old and about four and a half weeks ago I began experiencing serious dizziness. I knew that this was not normal by any means yet I was not falling over or vomiting. I figured that it was just from me being stressed out or something. A day or two later I realized that it was not going away. The dizziness began increasing especially after a cigarette and a cup of coffee lol. My blood pressure is normal and to my knowledge I do not have any serious illnesses. Yeah yeah I know that its not good for me. However, every time that I would look left and right my head began to spin and ultimately I would have to retire to my couch for the whole day. Luckily I was on vacation during the worse of this. I went to the regular doctors office and was told that I may have a sinus infection yet I showed absolutely no signs of one what so ever. The doc prescribed me Prednisone and told me that if there was any fluid in my sinuses that it will clear them up. That stuff is straight nasty and it caused rapid heartbeat and sleep deprivation for me personally. Yuk! I took the stuff and let it run its course yet it did nothing for me. I went back and saw a different doc and was diagnosed with vertigo. She told me that I probably had a middle ear infection, prescribed me some meclizine and a nasal spray, then sent me on my way. Funny thing about all of this is I have 0 ear pain, no sinus issue that I am aware of, and no wax issue. I took the meclizine and it would make me drowsy but it did seem to work a little. The nasal spray just caused anxiety for me so I stopped taking both. The docs gave me a referral to an ENT. Before I visited the ENT, I decided to go see an eye doctor. I wanted to do this as a process of elimination. I started noticing at work behind the computer or when I was reading books, cell phone, or whatever that I was getting dizzy so this is something that was brought up to the eye doc. Long story short I was sent away by the eye doctor and was told that I have perfect vision. My next step was the ENT. I showed up to the ENT about two and a half weeks after it started and that morning I was feeling better. The ENT tested me for possible vertigo and my symptoms were gone. She said that she thinks I have Labyrinthitis. However she did give me a referral to take an MRI and have bloodwork done. She never mentioned whether I should continue with the meds or not. I just finished the MRI and bloodwork and currently awaiting the results. I am on week four and a half right now. I tried olive oil and peroxcide in my ears and exercises but to no avail. I will say though that most of the vertigo from where I look left and right has left yet I am dizzy. I will sit in certain positions or lie down in certain positions and I get dizzy. when I make a turn in my car or come to a sudden stop I get dizzy. When I read or look at my cell phone for more then 20 seconds I get dizzy. I wake up and get out of bed I am dizzy. The worse of this occurs between 8am til about 2:30-3:00 pm everyday almost. The nights seem to provide much relief. this is really cramping my social life along with my job. My questions to everyone are as follows: Has this happened to any of you out there? If so what did you do? Although I am awaiting test results, if they come back negative for everything then what would be my next step and what is causing this excess dizziness? Help anyone!!!!!!!

I have been having something like this so perhaps you can help me. I have been getting dizzy spells when I sit for sometime and then get up. If I am at work and sit and look at the computer for an hour or more, then I get up and walk for a few seconds or about 12-15 steps, I get dizzy, my legs start shaking and get weak like I am going to fall down. My walking looks like I am drunk and I start weaving side to side. My stomach starts to feel nauseous also and I get a hot spell come over my body which leaves me sweaty. This also happens if I am in the car and sitting for any length of time. When I get out, I am ok for about 10-15 steps and the dizziness sets in. I have to grab on to something and hold on until it passes. It is starting to scare me. I went to the dr. and he found my sugar levels are prediabetic but I know this has nothing to do with the dizziness as it happened even before this diagnosis and I have been monitoring it. It is getting to the point I am scared to go anywhere because this happens and it is embarrassing if in a crowd or at work. I have never been a coffee drinker or big on caffeine but I do smoke. I am on medication but it has been the same for 5 years as I had back surgeries. I have been told that it could be a pinched nerve in my neck or back, vertigo, vitamin deficiency (mainly iron but my blood tests showed I am fine), small strokes etc. My doctor does not seem like he is interested when I keep mentioning it as he just wants to get my blood sugar lowered. I don't know where else to turn for more advise. Please help....

    Good day.

You described my symptoms exactly here. I'm in the 3rd week of crazy spinning, poor concentration, limited activities and bottles of medication. Even as I type here, I battle to focus. I have done everything in the book but it seems as if the condition persists. Is there any advise you can give me that will help me to improve my condition and just get me back a sense of normality?

Suekey,  time was the ultimate cure for me but I found VRT exercises helped tremendously. Stay away from cigarettes, alcohol, too much chocolate, spicy foods as these all change the fluid levels in ur ears. Can make symptoms worse temporarily. Exercise worked wonders for me. That helps to balance out ur ear fluids

I'm desperate to know if you found any solution to your terrorizing symptoms. I have been suffering the same, exact symptoms. Sounds like your care providers moved more quickly than mine. I'm on week 12 since my symptoms, week 10 since my first medical appointment. Normal MRI and bloodwork results.

After lots of elimination,I'm positive it's vision related (exam came back20/20), and I sometimes feel like there is sinus fluid involved. Please let us know how you're doing.

Jessica,  I was diagnosed with labyrinthitus and suffered for 9 months. Better now but it sucked hardcore. Lol. I did VRT exercises religiously and kept my anxiety under control. It gradually started getting better until it left. How ru holding up?

Thanks for asking. I don't feel like I'm holding up at all. My physician admittedly dropped the ball, and has taken way too long to get me into an ENT. My first appointment is tomorrow, and I've already missed six weeks of work. I'm a single, working mom, with no course of treatment. I've been doing the vrt exercises from the internet, without medical supervision. I can't tell if they're hurting Orr helping. I'll have a couple of good days, and think I'm getting better. It's beyond depressing each time my symptoms come back. I'm so glad to hear you're doing better, but discouraged to find out how long you suffered. Missing that much work won't be an option, but I certainly can't perform my job duties as is. Please let me know if you have any advice to get me through emotionally. Thanks so much for your response.

That is how labyrinthitus works Jessica. Couple days of feeling great then BAM!!!!, back to square one. I know that feeling. It will be tough for a while but as days go by ur getting a little bit better. May not feel like it but ur. U will start to see things that were horrible to do at first become more and more easier. Your brain needs time to compensate. Let me know what ur ENT says

For a month I thought I was going to lose my mind due to the extreme vertigo. When going to bed or getting up it was as if the room was turning on its own. So I decided to do a lot of research and found the exercise to move the ear crystals back where they should be. I thought it was nonsense. Simply the dumbest thing I've ever heard. What kind of idiot does these exercises. GUESS WHAT? I did them every night for a week. After that, I have not faced one episode of vertigo and that was 4 years ago. I'm telling everyone who stumbles on this thread. If you haven't tried them, just give it a shot. It costs you nothing to try it out. I wish all of you luck. Here's the exercises ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QikUTAmeE0M
