Will it ever end?

sad rolleyes

I am 37 years old and about four and a half weeks ago I began experiencing serious dizziness. I knew that this was not normal by any means yet I was not falling over or vomiting. I figured that it was just from me being stressed out or something. A day or two later I realized that it was not going away. The dizziness began increasing especially after a cigarette and a cup of coffee lol. My blood pressure is normal and to my knowledge I do not have any serious illnesses. Yeah yeah I know that its not good for me. However, every time that I would look left and right my head began to spin and ultimately I would have to retire to my couch for the whole day. Luckily I was on vacation during the worse of this. I went to the regular doctors office and was told that I may have a sinus infection yet I showed absolutely no signs of one what so ever. The doc prescribed me Prednisone and told me that if there was any fluid in my sinuses that it will clear them up. That stuff is straight nasty and it caused rapid heartbeat and sleep deprivation for me personally. Yuk! I took the stuff and let it run its course yet it did nothing for me. I went back and saw a different doc and was diagnosed with vertigo. She told me that I probably had a middle ear infection, prescribed me some meclizine and a nasal spray, then sent me on my way. Funny thing about all of this is I have 0 ear pain, no sinus issue that I am aware of, and no wax issue. I took the meclizine and it would make me drowsy but it did seem to work a little. The nasal spray just caused anxiety for me so I stopped taking both. The docs gave me a referral to an ENT. Before I visited the ENT, I decided to go see an eye doctor. I wanted to do this as a process of elimination. I started noticing at work behind the computer or when I was reading books, cell phone, or whatever that I was getting dizzy so this is something that was brought up to the eye doc. Long story short I was sent away by the eye doctor and was told that I have perfect vision. My next step was the ENT. I showed up to the ENT about two and a half weeks after it started and that morning I was feeling better. The ENT tested me for possible vertigo and my symptoms were gone. She said that she thinks I have Labyrinthitis. However she did give me a referral to take an MRI and have bloodwork done. She never mentioned whether I should continue with the meds or not. I just finished the MRI and bloodwork and currently awaiting the results. I am on week four and a half right now. I tried olive oil and peroxcide in my ears and exercises but to no avail. I will say though that most of the vertigo from where I look left and right has left yet I am dizzy. I will sit in certain positions or lie down in certain positions and I get dizzy. when I make a turn in my car or come to a sudden stop I get dizzy. When I read or look at my cell phone for more then 20 seconds I get dizzy. I wake up and get out of bed I am dizzy. The worse of this occurs between 8am til about 2:30-3:00 pm everyday almost. The nights seem to provide much relief. this is really cramping my social life along with my job. My questions to everyone are as follows: Has this happened to any of you out there? If so what did you do? Although I am awaiting test results, if they come back negative for everything then what would be my next step and what is causing this excess dizziness? Help anyone!!!!!!!

I have had this on going for 5-6 years . Started out as once every few months and has progressively become more and more often. I get the same symptoms you have described and it has effected my quality of life. Sometimes I get panic attacks from the dizziness, but most of the time I can control the anxiety and tell myself it will be ok.  At first I couldn't, but now I have learned to live with it. I have discovered over the years that ibuprofen 400mg helps make the symptoms go away and also abstaining from my beloved Pepsi and coffee sad I am a smoker but am going to quit. I've had blood tests a head ct all came back negative.  Getting an mri with contrast in 4 days will comment back when I get results. If it's negative I may just go straight to neurologist to see about those "shots". Do you remember what shots they were? Anyways I doubt it's anything serious like cancer as I've had it for almost 6 years and I'm still healthy besides the dizziness. Will keep you posted.

Daniel I am not sure what the shots are. I asked my friend but she doesn't remember what she was given. Apparently she had a different thing going on with her that demanded these shots. My stuff was labyrinthitus so it was a waiting game. Better now

It sounds like you guys are suffering from Meniere's disease. Especially with the eyes playing catch up/going back and fourth. I have Meniere's and I hate it. Stress, caffeine, salt, periods and head positions trigger mine. I also have ringing in my ears and brief bouts of deafness. Soda even decaf or sugar free sends it off the charts. There is a chemical in it that makes it bad. I have found paying attention to my diet makes it very manageable.

Wow. I have exactly the same symptoms.

Dizzyness strongest when i wake up, went to eye, ear doctor - everything normal. Neurologist said reflexes etc are normal, she sent me to a CT scan.

Magnets123 any update since? Did you found the cause?

Hi,  does this sound the same a what you have at all ; Efenechtyd I lay back and my head reaches a certain angle the whole room spins so bad, it's very scary. Also I'm breastfeeding my baby girl at the minute and when I wake in the night I spin out too. It's been happening for a few weeks now. My doctor told me it was probably stress and tiredness but personally I think that's a Croc....when it first came on it felt like my sinus was a bit inflamed. Lay year I had acute (yet extremely painful) sinusitis, for which I could take painkillers as I was pregnant. Never felt pain like it, worse than labour!! I was wondering if it could all be connected!?  Have any of you had previous sinusitis?

Jay yes that is normal with a middle ear issue. I had labyrinthitus for 9 months but it is gone now. However I still get a little dizzy when I lay my head back at certain angles. That is about 70% lmao. Everything else is back to normal. Prob damage that was done by the labs.

After much research and going to the eye doctor and my general doctor.  I was given meclizine....I take it daily and don't feel like it is working most of the time.  I am going on 2 months of dealing with this.  How did you get your doctors to persue other avenues for releif?  I have an HMO so I am limited on what I can get him to do for me.  I am very frustrated with this.

I had the exact same symptoms that started in june. And just now cleared up (nov)  I was using nicotine gum and drank of coffee every day.  Went to eye doctor, primary care, ent, tmj specialist, ear specialist, internal medicine, dentist, vertigo specialist infectious disease specialist, and even chiropractor trying to ID the cause Was prescribed nortryptilene for migraines, all kindS of allergy medicines, vertigo meds and "exercises", spinal manipulation,  etc.  however,  All bloodwork, MRI, all hearing tests, and tests for vestibular disorders, vision, dental, tmj came back perfect. What i found to be my caus was too much caffiene. I drank 6 cups a day. I did have allergies which caused nasal issues, and may have contributed to the dizziness, loss of balance, etc..  but when i gave up coffee cold turkey, it went away.  If i drink even 1 small cup the dizziness would immediately come back. For me it was the coffee.  Truly heartbreaking!!  But dizziness, loss of balance, out of body feeling, is gone.  I read hundreds of threads like this one because i was trying desperately to resolve the issue... the emotional impact was almost as bad as the symptoms.  So that is why I am sharing my story.  Quitting caffiene and nicotine was very tough, and i think it caused depression as my dopamine was out of whack...but it was only temporary-2weeks and i still struggle with craving coffee.  I want i every day.  But I do not miss the debalitating symptoms.  Only one doctor, my ear specialist , suggested it could be the coffee and suggested i stop.  No one else even mentioned it.

    Hello magnet123

I hope all is well and you're feeling better. I hope you don’t mind I discuss my similar symptoms with you. I am 40 It’s been a month I been having the same issue feeling dizzy, I have no idea where this is coming from.  I also have a constant mild headache on my forehead did you get headache? Sometimes my headache moves, one day it above my left eye sometimes its smack in the middle between both eyes. my dizziness increase as I look down, it scared me at a restaurant while I was sitting at a bar waiting for my food I was using my phone again looking down and felt like I was fading away I immediately caught myself getting dizzy, a few seconds after I looked up I felt normal... trying to figure out what was wrong if started using my phone again not to long it came back again I raise my head up and began focusing on the TV screen... three years ago I had sinus surgery due to a bad sinus infection. Last week if visited an ENT he performed a CT scan on my sinuses and found some sinus infection, he explained it wasn’t so severe. He prescribed a steroid nasal spray which I used three times so far; he also collected blood to performed allergy testing (pending). I am a pilot this new symptoms hasn’t affected me in the cockpit but again this symptom is new. Did you get better what’s your current status? You did mention in another post you had a friend that had the similar issue she was given an injection on the back of her neck and got better. My intention is to visit my ENT tomorrow and request a MRI; I will also request more blood work check on my blood levels etc. I will see a neurologist next if needed…keep me posted thank you magnet123

Please try the following only if your dizziness has NOT been diagnosed as having a specific cause ie undiagnosed and / or unexplained dizziness

    1. Avoid watching large screen or 3D Plasma TV's particularly from less than 5 meters away from the TV.

    2. Memory foam mattresses should be replaced with normal good old pocket sprung firm mattresses.

    3. Avoid Caffiene, Nicotine & Alcohol untill well after 3 months of your dizziness subsiding - yes and that inludes ecigs too.

Finally, chew on some raw Ginger - only a little at first and within 30 minutes your dizziness will definitely disappear (only for undiagnosed dizziness) for upto 5 hours at a time depending on how much raw Ginger you chewed.

Ps When chewing on raw Ginger only chew the juice out of it - don't swallow the ginger root or plant itself - chew the juice out of it then spit the rest into a bin.

Please try this - it worked for me - hope it works for you guys too.

    Regards

I have a question with this. When you say dizzy. I saw that you said its not the spinning room sensation. Is it more like you feel like sometimes you are going to fall over or just loose balance. Or when you would go to sit in a chair but the chair wasnt there and its the catching yourself feeling? I know thats a weird way to ask.  I just cant think of another way to describe it.

Or is it Sinuses related or neck problem or is it anxiety? my little boy still gets up in the night,  Doctors just prescribe you tabs, I do not want to take anything just want to know what is causing this a very anxious mum :-(
