Feel Like No One Believes Me :(

Anyone else feel dizzy/off-balance every day? I don't think my doctor(s) believe me when I tell them that I feel this way (almost) every day....I've not actually fallen down, but it feels as though I'm swaying even when I'm standing (or sitting) still....in fact, it's almost worse when I'm standing/sitting still....I was talking to someone in the hallway at work yesterday and thought I was going to fall over (although I don't think anyone can actually see me swaying)....I also feel a weird "internal" shaking in my legs sometimes...I've had a ridiculous number of medical tests, and they all came back normal....my doctors have suggested that it's anxiety, but I'm wondering if it might be perimenopause? My periods have been very erratic for the last eighteen months or so (which is about when all of this began happening)....coincidence? Looking for some advice from anyone who has these physical symptoms....how do you get through the days? I'm so frustrated...I just want my life back!!!

Had my last period on my 52nd birthday almost 5 months past now.  During this time I experienced some of those infamous hot flashes, sometimes a couple dozen in one day... and along with my longstanding problems with headaches... I aslo began experiencing odd dizziness, sometimes mild; sometimes extreme to the point of vomitting once.  There isn't much information out there.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  I want to rule out other causes when I get to the doctor next month.   Thanks for starting this discussion!

      hi hotflash hedgie

i have same with flashes.. I am almost a year no periods .. Flashes stopped years ago, and restarted.. Imwas having about 15-20 rushes of flashes a day ... Jeeeez

i take effervescant magnesium before bed as its best taken at night and have ordered vit E as that helps flashes.. Also its hot in spain 39 today ( this afternoon) and a hot flash is a way we cool down when in meno..so the high temps really affect us.. AC always indoors ..

the pool is the best place 😀 .. So cooling ...

Hello everyone, thought I would recommend something. If you are dizzy when you stand, legs heavy, brain foggy and sometimes feel close to passing out - have a cardiologist check you for Orthostatic Hypotension. It's a symptom, not a disease. Your blood pools in your legs and you don't get enough oxygen to the brain causing near syncope (syncope if fainting). A few things help. Phenylephrine (cold meds) helps keep the blood from pooling in your legs. Compression stockings, small meals and low carbs so blood doesn't pool in the belly. Strengthening your core and thight muscles help too.

Research Autonomic disorders like POTS. Check your blood pressure in the sitting postion and then as you stand for three minutes. that should tell you if you have orthostatic Hypotension/Hypertension (OH). Most times it's not serious and can be treated. Hormones play a big roll, but the powers that be are just learning the connection. Diabetes Insepidious can cause OH because the body doesn't produce an anti diuretic hormone.

    Best of luck

Thank you so much for posting this!  You have helped me so much with this information.  I have been experiencing the dizzy symptoms with swelling in my legs and wrists for sometime and am in the process of undergoing testing procedures.  My GP has been baffled by my symptoms.  i just started taking the Phenylephrine for sinus congestion and noticed that my dizziness dissipated.  Now with your information I can find a quicker solution!  Bless you.

Did forget to mention, I have been thru menopause 3 times. The first time after both Ovaries were removed when I was 23, following that two HRT changes. I have fought dizziness for three years and was finally taken serious when I nearly passed out at the Cardiologist office. I have Autonomic failure due to autoimmune complications and am now in a wheelchair and on Midodrine. I wish someone would have mentioned this to me before I got so bad, although there is no stopping it in my case - but I apparently am "Funky and rare", and not in a good way. But check for it, rule it in or out. So many doctors do not know what this is, even some Cardiologists.

Hello Wearykitty, yes I am feeling the same as you, not sure what the heck is going on, for the past year I've felt terrible, I have done my own independent search for answers, as my doctors also say I'm ok. What I have come to realize, it could be hormonal changes maybe. I'm also getting older and not menopasal yet, but probably getting close to it.

At first I thought maybe it's my lymphatic system, which I won't rule out. But now I think it could be Allergy related not 100% sure, but I cut dairy, and bread out of my diet and eat more green veggies, I felt improvement.

So you could start with that, I felt like some of my headaches and dizzy were reduced, I also have the some tremor like feeling in legs....now I come to believe it's a muscle related....everything.....it's muscle tightness, in your legs, on your scalp etc. So I started self message, I massage the top of my head, and I mean dig your fingers hard into scalp, all around your head, back of your head, then work your way into your shoulder muscles, and I mean really massage deep tissue. After that I start on my legs, and so far this is the only thing that has made me feel somewhat normal again. I have improved, but I'm still working on it, so I changed my diet, took out dairy and bread..eat green veggies, and self massage. I here you on the frustrated part, but I feel this is muscle tightness issue....one more thing make sure you sit with good posture, my posture was horrible and I read that your spine is like a cord, and if you don't sit straight, the cord gets bent. Which could also be playing a number on all your muscles in your body. But I have to stress to you SELF MESSAGE and body stretching is what helped me the most. Make sure to use an oil coconut oil or even olive oil will work. Good luck and if I find out more I will let you know.

Hi wearykitty, I suffer from the very same symptoms you describe, I don't know how I'm managing to go to work, I just keep muddling through thinking I'll feel better soon.

I've had a rotten day today and spent a lot of the day in tears as I feel a bit overwhelmed, the agitation is terrible as well, My legs muscles ache, I think this is with tension trying to steady myself.  Like you sitting or standing still seems worse, I feel I need to get up and walk around.... which is exhausting.  Also have insomnia.

I hope this symptom eases soon for us whose lives are blighted by it.  The thing is I don't suffer from hot flushes like others in peri...weird

Hope it helps you knowing there are others suffering also.xsad

Kitty, I understand you perfectly! I am 33. Since 3 years I am having very unpleasant vertigo with tinnitus, bowel movement etc.

All have started from one day to another. I quite ignored that, 4 months later I have had severe skin problems, as my face changed into an omelet with tomatoes (no any skin issues in my life).

I went to dermatologist, gastrologist, laryngologist, neurologist all of them had their ridiculous theories. In the end my family doctor said that I should stop searching and she looked at me if I would be freaking hypochondriac. She said: ''You are perfectly fine, your blood tests are always very good (except thyroid hormones and vit. D), you should accept this and let go''.

How can you live with that if you are afraid to drive, swim etc. I felt horrible after this conversation...so humiliated, so weird, so freak.

Lately I have had a control visit to my gynecologist and she suggested I could have estrogen imbalance. I was waiting for that 3 years! She's telling me that after 3 years???

Now, I am waiting for a visit to endocrinologist. Guys, I am so tired, so tired to be pushed around with no answers. Feeling like crap, ignored, like boring case for those lazy docs. In vertigo clinic I have heard: ''unfortunately you have to little episodes to be qualified to any of our trials''....

I am scared, scared that once again I will be neglected. I am engineer, my nature is to investigate and search for solutions. I cannot accept what is happening with my body and just let go. I just want my life back!!!

I happened upon this web site today, and I am so happy to  find there are others with the same thing I am feeling, and have been for four years. I also have spent much money, and time going to all different kinds of doctors. I was encouraged by my health food store to try a product called "Mood Support", and it does help with the rocking feeling. Although even with using that  I sometimes I still have it, through the advice of my two neices one with vertigo, and one with menopause, I was told to try either dramamine, or an allergy pill such as benadryl or claritin. It actually does work. You will feel relief very quickly. The only downside is the allergy pills dry you out, The rocking , swaying feeling  is a very scary feeling, and one I would not wish on anyone. I know I don't really care to take a pill all the time, but when you feel so out of control you change your plans, and feel like you cant function a person needs something. One thing I have discovered is that sugars mostly, and too much salt will trigger a reaction. So I find myself having to watch what goes in my mouth very carefully. If anyone else has found out things that work I would love to hear about them. Thanks for posting, I dont feel so alone anymore.
