Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    WEEK 7 DAY 3

    Morning all friends!!

I am afraid to post too long as I dont want to get 'lost in space'. I took it real easy yesterday, just sat and elevated. Today back at the walk. Its just so heavy lugging that boot with

you, but I guess thats the way it goes. Maybe it will ge me out of the boot sooner?

Be, BIG HUGS to you. Praying for your Dad. It is really hard when they get older, but they have us. Hang in there, your doing all you can for your Dad.

Ok, gotta go and get the boot on and try the walk again,

Have a wonderful day all, and we are one step closer then we were yesterday.

Today I am going to try and NOT use my scooter around the house. Time to stop using it as a security blanket.  Want to move on in this journey. Putting a little more weight on different areas of the foot. Not heel toe walking yet, but just trying to get away from the heel as it hurts when I do it too long. Looking forward to ditching the crutches and will work towards that towards the end of the week, hopefully. Need some goals here to work towards.

Just got home from a vist with my Mom in the sunshine. I walked down and up the stairs and now its time for ice. Resting and then up to work on dinner with hubby.  Tired of sitting around. Cant wait to get into a show one day............

    DOUBLE DIPPING TODAY!!

Woke up off the beam and then lost my post. A combination of not being able to control the outcome of things and my mom having some really hard days along with foot pain had me all twisted.

Found out today mom may now have lung cancer on top of many other issues. Anyway did my pre admission testing for second surgery today and I'm locked and loaded for May 28th. This will be without a doubt a tough run coming up. We will tackle it a day at a time, minutes at a time if it gets to difficult.

Thanks for all the shout outs. Love all of the bunion babes that have helped and supported me thru this. ''I can't, we can ''. Now the scrolling starts. LOL

Now it doesn't. Just relized I'm on page 1 and can't go forward or I'll lose this.

Rena ( CEO ) Stay focused and ditch the Meds.

Kim - I held the towel 5 seconds. Not sure it was a legal hold tho.

Anitagirl - Ditch that boot ASAP and lose the scooter!!!! Make that scooter go away!!!!

Joan - Work the gym bunionbabe!!!!

Jenny - Thanks for the concern. I will keep you in my thoughts when it's time to stop. Did hour on stationary bike and 20 on eliptical today, PT and it feels pretty good. Not a ton of swelling.

That's all I can remember without looking back.

    Mel - Spice girl ???????????????

    Have a great night!!!!!!

Hello Bunion Babes and Bunion Bob!

Bob, Bob, Bob...I'm still here. I was racing on a sailboat this weekend! I had gotten a new phone Friday morning and also had very spotty service where we were, so without all my usual Apps downloaded and not-so-decent service, I pretty much left my phone (i.e., connection to the world) put away. But, our team won the race in its class, which was the cruising class. It was so much fun!

I'm happy to report my foot held up really well with what I put it through!  I wore my velcro shoe all weekend and I'm sure that helped. There was the boat race and then dinner and dancing Saturday night. We danced for hours! My foot never hurt but it did feel tired by the time we walked the half mile back to the marina. I ended up with some sore muscles, but not an aching foot at all. This is a huge milestone for me and hopefully some added encouragement for those of you with fewer weeks into the journey. I'm planning to remove the bandages Wednesday and see how I do without the velcro shoe (which I not-so-affectionately refer to as my "summer boot").

I think the removal of screws has made a huge difference! Last week I told my doctor I was so pleased, because I'm not limping and I also feel like my toes are moving a little better without the screws. His reply, "Well I don't think it was THAT much of a miracle procedure."  Umm, I beg to differ on that one, Doc!

All...continue to hang in there, and keep up the great work. 4.5 months in, and I am finally feeling really good about this! Having everyone here to vent with has been priceless and I appreciate every single post.  Now, before I lose my post, which would not make me happy at all, I will say so long for now! smile

This is much better moderator - having the "reply to Jenny" at the bottom of the page.

Week 9 - 5 days, woo hoo - looking forward to a normal life, I can drive, go to the gym, walk, even fancy returning to work - appointment with Dr tomorrow to chat about my return to work.  Life is feeling normal.  I have decided that I would like my second operation on 1st October as counting back the days from xmas that should mean I will be at about this stage in my recovery.  I will ask my surgeon if he can do that when I next see him on 9th June.

Oh this new laptop is lovely for typing up on the forum, so much quicker than on my phone.  Lots of new features to get used to though.

Bob, you enjoy your last few days before you get laid up again, and in 3 months time it will all be behind you. Sorry to hear about your mum, its hard to watch loved ones when they are ill, you sound such a lovely caring son and person.

Mel nice to see you back, sounds like you had an amazing time.

I am off to the theatre tonight to see Wicked, the musical, so excited, had the tickets for months.  The last time i went to the theatre was about 4 weeks post op, and I was so uncomfortable, I wouldn't recommend that for anyone.

Life is good - Enjoy life, this is not a rehersal.

Shout out to everyone else, Kim, Patricia, Rena, Anita and our new follower, Rena 274

    Week 8 whoo hoo!

Thanks Moderators for making the forum a bit easier to navigate!

I'm still progressing in leaps and bounds, but of course now am doing a bit too much so getting all sorts of new pains... felt that ball of the foot ache this evening. and have been getting sharp shooting pains on and off since last night. I've ditched the crutch around the house and am trying to walk normally, so guess it's the extra weight on and bending of my big toe with trying to walk properly that's causing the pain. It does go away if I put my foot up so am going to keep persevering. Tomorrow I have to go watch my daughter's first hockey match of the season and there are lots of steps down to the field and then a long walk across to the other side of 2 hockey fields to the stands so that will be a good test! Today my pedometer says I've done 14143 steps as at 20h45 - can't believe I can do that many just around the house, have only been outside to the gate a couple of times to see people off. I've also done too much standing today sorting out clothes for the expo this weekend, but there's no getting around that, got to get them all priced... I start physio tomorrow, so will find out if it is going to hurt!

And am very proud of myself - no carbs for 2 days now, I made a big pot of vegetable soup for supper tonight. Eileen thanks for the exercise routine - looks good, especially the reward of wine at the end!

Welcome Rena 2, and hope all the rest of the bunion Babes and bunion Bob are doing well today

Hi all!  WEEK 7 DAY 6

Well, today I had a followup appointment with the surgeon.  In general both he and I are very pleased with the rapidity of my healing in the big toe and he confirms I have good flexibility in the toe for this stage.  My concern was the hammertoe which still is swollen, sore, often red and is not lying as flat as I would like to see it.  Well, it turns out I should be doing ROM manipulation of that toe with my fingers and this should make a big improvement.  He did it and it hurt. He said that the reason the ball of my foot under that toe hurts is because it's not lying flat and so too much pressure when I walk is landing up on the ball of the foot.  So that's my next challenge, to get that joint moving more so the toe can lie flat. As per his instruction....do the manipulation hundreds of times !!! But of course not all at once.... LOL.  My next errand today was to go by a pair of the "no drop" Altra trainers with the wide toe box.  I found a store about 45 mins. from where I live with the style that I wanted.  Also got a pair of toe socks to wear with them. I look forward to not crowding my toes anymore with socks or shoes !

Welcome Rena 2!  I don't know any Renas other than myself....what a coincidence we both should land up in the same forum ! I am the Rena from Toronto, Canada confused

Patricia.....good for you with the no carbs!  You are making me feel guilty.  I must get on that bandwagon as well....just have to psych myself into  it !  Good luck with it ! biggrin There are some good ROM exercise in the 'file' section on FB which might be helpful to you Patricia now that you are practicing the heel to toe.  And remember, when walking with proper form, the slower you go the easier it is to  get a more complete motion in.

Joan.....do you have Windows 8 on your new laptop? I do and am finding it somewhat of a challenge to get used to as my main  computer has Windows 7.....ahh well, learning new things is good exercise for those ole brain cells and goodness knows I need as much exercise as I can get !!  Doing your 2nd foot in October sounds so sensible....I hope your surgeon will be able to accommodate you.

Bob.....hope you enjoyed your lunch with your mom and your foot is more comfortalbe today.  You're going to need that foot in the best shape possible in a week's time so controlling the amount of swelling will promote greater healing during those days. Why can't I stop nagging ???  I just hate to see you suffer more than necessary !lol

Mel....you brought us wonderful news....you're our bright light for that end of the tunnel jouney !

Gotta go to some 2nd toe manipulation and start into that "hundreds of times" challenge ! rolleyes
