Taking amlodipine and amitriptyline together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. This may make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly from a sitting or lying position. There is also a small risk that both medications could affect your heart rhythm.
You can generally take amlodipine and amitriptyline together, but with some precautions.
Taking them together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended, so monitor for dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.
Amitriptyline can also affect heart rhythm in higher doses, which may be a concern if you have heart issues.
Always let your doctor know all medications you take so they can monitor for interactions or adjust doses if needed.
How to take amlodipine and amitriptyline safely
Move slowly when changing positions (like getting out of bed) to avoid dizziness.
If you feel very dizzy, have a racing heartbeat, or faint, contact your doctor.
Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure more closely when you first start this combination.
Important precautions
Suicidal thoughts and mood changes
Amitriptyline can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or self-harm, particularly when first starting treatment or changing doses. Seek immediate medical help if your mood changes or you feel depressed.
Heart conditions (e.g. recent heart attack, arrhythmia)
Do not take amitriptyline if you have recently had a heart attack or have certain heart rhythm problems, as it can affect the electrical signals in your heart.
Severe liver disease
If you have severe liver problems, your dose may need to be much lower and increased very slowly, as amlodipine is processed by the liver and can build up to toxic levels.
Food and drink warnings
Alcohol
Drinking alcohol while taking amitriptyline can make you feel very sleepy and unsteady on your feet. It is best to avoid alcohol, especially when you first start treatment or if your dose is increased.
Grapefruit juice
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can increase the amount of amlodipine in your body, which may cause your blood pressure to drop too low. This can lead to side effects like headaches, dizziness, or swelling. Avoid consuming large amounts of grapefruit while taking this medicine.
Caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks)
Amitriptyline can sometimes increase the effects of caffeine, making you feel jittery or causing heart palpitations. Conversely, high amounts of caffeine may interfere with the sedative effects of the medicine. Try to keep your caffeine intake moderate.

Can I take Lisinopril and Potassium together?
Taking lisinopril and potassium supplements together can cause the levels of potassium in your blood to become dangerously high (a condition called hyperkalaemia). While your body needs potassium for your heart and muscles to work, too much of it can lead to serious heart rhythm problems or even cause the heart to stop. Symptoms of high potassium can include muscle weakness, tingling sensations, or palpitations, but often there are no symptoms until the level is very high.

Can I take Iron supplements and Sedoxil together?
Taking iron supplements at the same time as Sedoxil (mexazolam) may reduce how much of the medication your body absorbs. This could make the Sedoxil less effective at treating anxiety or helping you sleep.
