There is no negative interaction between anastrozole and vitamin D. In fact, taking vitamin D is often recommended for patients on anastrozole to help protect bone health.
Why this happens
Anastrozole works by lowering oestrogen levels, which can lead to bone thinning (osteoporosis). Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which strengthens bones and helps counteract this side effect. There are no known issues with how the body processes these two substances together.
What you should do
It is safe and often beneficial to take vitamin D while taking anastrozole. You should continue taking your supplements as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. It is a good idea to have your vitamin D levels checked periodically to ensure you are taking the correct dose for your bone health.
Important precautions
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Anastrozole must not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it can cause serious harm to the unborn baby. It is only for use in women who have gone through the menopause.
Osteoporosis (bone thinning)
Anastrozole lowers oestrogen levels, which can significantly decrease bone mineral density and increase your risk of fractures. Your doctor should monitor your bone health before and during treatment.
Food and drink warnings
High-fat meals
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is absorbed much more effectively when taken with a meal that contains some fat (such as yoghurt, eggs, or avocado). Taking it on an empty stomach may reduce its effectiveness.

Can I take Lisinopril and Potassium together?
Taking lisinopril and potassium supplements together can cause the levels of potassium in your blood to become dangerously high (a condition called hyperkalaemia). While your body needs potassium for your heart and muscles to work, too much of it can lead to serious heart rhythm problems or even cause the heart to stop. Symptoms of high potassium can include muscle weakness, tingling sensations, or palpitations, but often there are no symptoms until the level is very high.
