Can I take Chaga and Lions mane together?

Why this happens

These two fungi have different active compounds (polysaccharides and triterpenes in Chaga; hericenones and erinacines in Lion's Mane) that do not interfere with each other's absorption or metabolism in the body. They do not compete for the same pathways in the liver.

What you should do

It is generally safe to take these together. However, because both may have a very mild effect on thinning the blood or lowering blood sugar, you should monitor how you feel if you are already taking medication for diabetes or blood thinners (like warfarin). Always start with a low dose to see how your body reacts.

Important precautions

Kidney disease or history of kidney stones

Chaga is extremely high in oxalates, which can cause permanent kidney damage or acute kidney failure, especially in those with existing renal issues.

Diabetes

Both supplements can significantly lower blood sugar levels; taking them alongside diabetes medication increases the risk of dangerous hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar).

Autoimmune diseases (e.g., Lupus, MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis)

Chaga can stimulate the immune system, which may worsen symptoms of autoimmune conditions or interfere with immunosuppressant medications.

Bleeding disorders or upcoming surgery

Both supplements may slow blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding; it should be avoided if you have a bleeding disorder or are scheduled for surgery.

Food and drink warnings

Alcohol

Chaga contains high levels of oxalates. Combining it with alcohol may increase the risk of kidney stones or kidney stress, as both substances can affect renal function. Use with caution.
