This classic sausage gravy is a hearty, high-protein option that brings a sense of comfort to any breakfast table. By slowly browning the sausage meat and whisking it into a velvety, butter-based white sauce, you create a rich and savoury topping that feels genuinely indulgent. A hint of crushed red pepper flakes adds a subtle warmth, perfectly balancing the creaminess of the whole milk and the peppery seasoning.
Ideal for a weekend brunch or a filling midweek meal, this versatile recipe can be prepared in advance to save time during busy mornings. Simply reheat the gravy gently on the hob, adding a splash of extra milk if needed to loosen the texture. Serve it over freshly baked scones or toasted sourdough for a satisfying, homemade dish that is packed with flavour and protein.
