Sesame Chicken Drumettes

These sticky sesame chicken drumettes offer a wonderful balance of savoury soy, sweet honey, and aromatic ginger. By marinating the chicken overnight, the meat becomes incredibly tender while absorbing the deep, nutty notes of the toasted sesame oil. It is a simple yet sophisticated way to prepare a high-protein dish that works just as well as an impressive party snack as it does for a midweek family dinner.

As a high-protein option, this recipe relies on reducing the marinade into a rich, glossy glaze rather than using heavy oils or breadcrumbs. Serve these succulent drumettes alongside a crisp cucumber salad or steamed pak choi for a balanced, nutritious meal. The final sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds adds a delicate crunch and a professional finish to this homemade favourite.

Ingredients for Sesame Chicken Drumettes

  • 60ml plus 2 tablespoons Sherry

  • 45ml soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons minced peeled fresh ginger

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil

  • 14 chicken wing drumettes

  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, toasted

How to make Sesame Chicken Drumettes

Combine first 6 ingredients in heavy medium ovenproof skillet. Add chicken and turn to coat. Cover skillet and refrigerate chicken, turning occasionally, 6 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 177°C. Bake chicken in oven in skillet 20 minutes. Turn chicken over and continue baking until chicken is cooked through, about 20 minutes longer. Using tongs, transfer chicken to plate. Boil liquid in skillet over medium-high heat until reduced to glaze, about two minutes. Pour glaze over chicken. Sprinkle chicken with sesame seeds.
