This clever vegan snack takes the classic flavour profile of a creamy onion dip and infuses it directly into crunchy, kettle-cooked potato crisps. By oven-toasting the crisps before tossing them in a bespoke spice blend and high-quality olive oil, you create a sophisticated hors d'oeuvre that feels entirely homemade. The combination of toasted garlic, onion powder and a hint of chilli heat provides a savoury depth that is beautifully balanced by the brightness of fresh lemon zest.
Perfect for casual entertaining or as a standout addition to a weekend drinks tray, these seasoned crisps offer a much fresher alternative to standard shop-bought varieties. The addition of plenty of chopped dill adds a modern, herbal finish that keeps you coming back for more. Serve them immediately while they still carry the warmth from the oven for the best texture and aroma.

1 tablespoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes

How to make Onion-Dip crisps
Back to contentsPreheat oven to 218°C. Grind onion powder, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and salt in spice mill until red pepper flakes are finely ground. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside.
Spread out crisps on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, tossing halfway through, until deep golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Transfer crisps to a large bowl and drizzle with oil. Sprinkle reserved spice mixture over and add two-thirds of dill. Finely zest lemon over chips. Sprinkle with lots of black pepper and toss to coat (do all this while the chips are still warm so they absorb the flavours of the spice mixture). Taste and season with more salt if needed.
Transfer chips to a platter and top with remaining dill and more black pepper.
