Winter Fruit Kefir Salad

This vibrant winter fruit kefir salad is a refreshing departure from heavy seasonal puddings. Combining the creamy, tangy notes of coconut-flavoured kefir with a colourful array of seasonal fruits, it offers a sophisticated balance of textures. The addition of toasted sesame oil provides an unexpected savoury depth that beautifully complements the sweetness of the mango and melon, while fresh mint leaves provide a cooling finish.

As a versatile vegetarian dish, this salad works equally well as a light breakfast or a restorative post-dinner palate cleanser. It is packed with probiotics and vitamin-rich fruits like persimmon and pomegranate, making it a healthy choice for those seeking a nutrient-dense treat. Serve it on a large platter for a stunning centrepiece that captures the bright flavours of the season.

Ingredients for Winter Fruit Kefir Salad

  • 600ml organic coconut-flavoured whole-milk kefir

  • 1 bunch mint, 1/2 roughly chopped, 1/2 picked leaves

  • Juice of 2 limes

  • 240ml bite-size cantaloupe pieces

  • 240ml bite-size honeydew pieces

  • 120ml finely diced persimmon

  • Seeds (arils) of 1 medium pomegranate

  • 2 medium kiwi, peeled and sliced

  • 1 medium mango, pitted, peeled, and diced

  • 60ml plus 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

  • Pinch of Maldon sea salt

In a bowl, mix together the kefir, chopped mint, and lime juice. Pour the kefir mixture onto a large platter with a slight lip. In the same bowl, mix all of the fruit, 60ml the sesame oil, and any leftover kefir clinging to the bowl. Loosely arrange the fruit on top of the kefir mixture. Drizzle the fruit with the remaining 2 tablespoons sesame oil, sprinkle with the picked mint leaves, and sprinkle evenly with the salt.
