Can I take 0palmon and Ibuprofen together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking Opalmon (limaprost) and ibuprofen together can significantly increase your risk of serious bleeding, particularly in the stomach or intestines. It can also make your blood take longer to clot if you cut yourself. Additionally, both medicines can affect your kidney function, and taking them together increases the risk of kidney problems.

Why this happens

Opalmon is a prostaglandin analogue that prevents blood platelets from sticking together. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that also thins the blood and can irritate the lining of the stomach. When used together, their blood-thinning effects are added together, making bleeding much more likely. Both drugs also reduce blood flow to the kidneys.

You should avoid taking ibuprofen while you are taking Opalmon unless your doctor has specifically told you to do so. If you need pain relief, ask your pharmacist or doctor for a safer alternative, such as paracetamol. Seek medical help immediately if you notice signs of bleeding, such as black or tarry stools, coughing up blood, or severe stomach pain.
