Taking St John's Wort with edoxaban can make edoxaban much less effective. This significantly increases your risk of developing dangerous blood clots or having a stroke.

Why this happens
St John's Wort speeds up the liver enzymes and transport proteins (specifically P-glycoprotein) that break down and remove edoxaban from your body. This causes the level of the medicine in your blood to drop too low to work properly.
What you should do
Back to contentsDo not take St John's Wort if you are taking edoxaban. If you are already taking both, do not stop the St John's Wort suddenly, but speak to your doctor or pharmacist immediately. They will need to check your treatment plan and may suggest an alternative for your mood that does not interfere with your blood thinner.
