Why this happens

Both drugs increase the levels of a chemical called serotonin in your brain; too much of this can cause dangerous side effects. Additionally, ondansetron may block the specific receptors in the body that tramadol needs to work, meaning your pain relief might not be as strong.

You should speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. If your doctor prescribes both, watch closely for signs of serotonin syndrome, such as shivering, diarrhoea, fever, sweating, or stiff muscles. If you feel your pain is not being controlled, do not take extra tramadol; contact your doctor for advice.
