Why this happens

Alcohol has a 'vasodilatory' effect, meaning it widens blood vessels, which adds to the blood-pressure-lowering effect of metoprolol. Additionally, alcohol can interfere with the liver enzymes that break down metoprolol, leading to unpredictable levels of the drug in your bloodstream.

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking metoprolol. If you do drink, do so very sparingly and be aware that you may feel the effects of alcohol more quickly. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or drowsy. If you experience severe dizziness or fainting, contact your doctor.
