Can I take 100 and Sertraline together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking 5-HTP with sertraline can lead to a very serious and potentially life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome. This happens when there is too much of the chemical serotonin in your brain and body. Symptoms can include shivering, sweating, a very high temperature, fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness, twitching, confusion, and agitation.

Why this happens

Sertraline is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) that prevents the body from clearing serotonin. 5-HTP is a building block that the body uses to create more serotonin. When used together, they cause an excessive and dangerous buildup of serotonin.

Do not take 5-HTP while you are taking sertraline. If you have already taken them together and feel unwell, seek medical help immediately. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any herbal supplements or over-the-counter remedies alongside your prescription medication.
