There is no known interaction between Eliquis (apixaban) and omeprazole. It is generally considered safe to take these two medicines together.

Why this happens
Omeprazole works by reducing stomach acid, while Eliquis is an anticoagulant (blood thinner). These medicines are processed by different pathways in the body and do not interfere with how the other is absorbed, broken down, or excreted. Unlike some other blood thinners (such as clopidogrel), Eliquis does not require a specific level of stomach acid to work effectively.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou can take both medicines as prescribed by your doctor. You do not need to change the timing of your doses. However, always watch for signs of unusual bleeding (such as dark, tarry stools or coffee-ground vomit), which can sometimes occur when taking blood thinners, even if you are also taking a stomach-protective medicine like omeprazole.
