Can I take 50 and Multivitamins together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking 5-HTP with a multivitamin that contains Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) may cause the 5-HTP to be converted into serotonin in the bloodstream before it reaches the brain. This can reduce the effectiveness of the 5-HTP for mood or sleep and may increase the risk of side effects like nausea or heart palpitations.

Why this happens

Vitamin B6 is a necessary co-factor for the enzyme that converts 5-HTP into serotonin. If too much B6 is present in the digestive tract or blood at the same time as 5-HTP, the conversion happens too early (peripherally) rather than inside the brain where it is needed.

It is best to space these out. Take your multivitamin at a different time of day (at least 2 to 3 hours apart) from your 5-HTP supplement to ensure the 5-HTP can reach your brain effectively. Check your multivitamin label for 'Pyridoxine' or 'Vitamin B6'.
