Why this happens
Dasatinib (60) needs a highly acidic environment in the stomach to dissolve properly so it can be absorbed into your bloodstream. Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid. By making the stomach less acidic, lansoprazole prevents the dasatinib from dissolving and entering your system.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should not take lansoprazole while you are being treated with dasatinib (60). Speak to your doctor or specialist immediately about alternative ways to manage indigestion or heartburn. They may suggest using a fast-acting antacid (like Gaviscon) instead, but these must be timed carefully (usually taken 2 hours before or 2 hours after your dasatinib dose).

There is also a small but serious risk of a heart rhythm problem called QT prolongation.
