There are no known interactions between codeine (the active ingredient in Co-codamol 30/500) and mebeverine. They are often prescribed together to manage different symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Why this happens
Codeine is an opioid painkiller that works by blocking pain signals in the central nervous system and slowing down the gut. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that works directly on the muscles in the gut wall to help them relax. They work in different ways and do not interfere with how the body processes each other.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou can take these two medicines together. However, be aware that codeine can cause constipation as a side effect, which may sometimes worsen certain IBS symptoms. If you experience severe constipation, speak to your pharmacist or GP. Always follow the dosage instructions on the packet and avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking codeine, as it can increase drowsiness.

Taking fluoxetine with Abilify (aripiprazole) can significantly increase the amount of Abilify in your bloodstream. This makes you much more likely to experience side effects such as extreme sleepiness, restlessness (feeling like you cannot sit still), uncontrollable body movements (tremors or twitching), and dizziness. There is also a small but serious risk of a heart rhythm problem called QT prolongation.
