Why this happens

Both albuterol and the vilanterol component of Anoro Ellipta are 'beta-agonists'. They work in the same way to open your airways. Taking both at once is like taking a double dose of this type of medicine, which can overstimulate your heart and nervous system.

Use caution. Anoro Ellipta is your daily 'preventer' or 'maintenance' inhaler, while albuterol is your 'reliever' or 'rescue' inhaler for sudden symptoms. Only use albuterol when absolutely necessary for quick relief. If you find you need to use your albuterol inhaler more than twice a week, speak to your doctor, as your regular treatment may need adjusting.
