Why this happens

Alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate used for bone strength, and azathioprine is an immunosuppressant. They do not interfere with how each other is absorbed, broken down, or removed from the body. While both can cause stomach upset or, in rare cases, lower blood counts, they do so through different pathways.

You can safely take these medicines together. Ensure you follow the specific instructions for alendronic acid (taking it first thing in the morning with a full glass of plain water, staying upright for 30 minutes, and waiting before eating). Continue with any regular blood tests requested by your doctor to monitor your treatment.
