Why this happens

Both medicines have effects on the heart and blood vessels. Bisoprolol is a beta-blocker designed to slow the heart and lower blood pressure. Amitriptyline, while an antidepressant, can also affect heart rhythms and blood pressure. When used together, these effects can add up (an additive effect).

You can usually take these together, but you should be monitored by your doctor. When starting this combination or changing doses, move slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position to avoid dizziness. If you feel very dizzy, faint, or notice an unusually slow or irregular heartbeat, contact your doctor.
