Can I take Amlodipine and Dapagliflozin together?

Taking these two medicines together can lead to a greater reduction in your blood pressure. While this is often the goal of treatment, it may occasionally cause your blood pressure to drop too low (hypotension). You might also experience a slight increase in the amount of urine you produce.

Why this happens

Amlodipine works by relaxing your blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Dapagliflozin is primarily used for diabetes or heart failure; it works by removing excess sugar and salt from your body through your urine, which also has a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect. When used together, these two different ways of lowering blood pressure can add up.

It is generally safe to take these medicines together, but you should be aware of signs of low blood pressure, such as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint (especially when standing up quickly). Ensure you stay well-hydrated. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure more closely when you first start this combination or if your doses are changed.
