Can I take Amlodipine and Indapamide together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking amlodipine and indapamide together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. This might make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. It can also increase the risk of your potassium or sodium levels becoming too low.

Why this happens

Both medicines work to lower blood pressure but in different ways: amlodipine relaxes your blood vessels, while indapamide is a 'water tablet' (diuretic) that helps your body get rid of excess salt and water. When used together, their effects add up (an additive effect), which can sometimes lower blood pressure too much.

It is very common for doctors to prescribe these two medicines together to treat high blood pressure. However, you should monitor your blood pressure regularly at home. To avoid dizziness, try to get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Your doctor will likely perform regular blood tests to check your kidney function and salt levels (like potassium and sodium). If you feel very dizzy, faint, or have unusual muscle weakness, contact your GP.
